Smart meters burden on consumers: CPI
Rajamahendravaram: CPI national executive member Akkineni Vanaja has asserted that the Communist Party of India will continue its fight until the government halts the installation of smart electricity meters. Addressing a press conference at the CPI office here on Tuesday, she said the burden of smart meters will ultimately fall on consumers, leading to increased financial pressure. Vanaja criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign tour while Parliament is in session, calling it inappropriate and a dishonour to the nation's highest democratic institution. Referring to former US President Donald Trump's claim of mediating 23 times after the Pahalgam incident, she said it was shameful and demanded that Modi respond to the nation on the issue. She also came down heavily on the BJP government's policies, blaming them for rising unemployment and economic distress. Taking a jibe at TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, Vanaja questioned why he is now resorting to borrowing, the same act he previously criticised in Jagan Mohan Reddy's administration. Commenting on the Polavaram project, she alleged that reducing the dam height and exposing the Banakacharla plans were actions that hurt the project's interests. Even after one year in power, the alliance government has failed to do justice to the Polavaram displaced families, she said. She also accused Chandrababu Naidu of failing to secure central funds for the project. Vanaja announced that CPI will organise a national convention to oppose the anti-people policies of both the Central and State governments. Speaking on the occasion, CPI East Godavari district secretary Tatipaka Madhu said the party's 26th district conference will be held on August 6 and 7 in Rajamahendravaram, with delegates from all 17 mandals participating. A massive rally will begin at 2 PM on August 6 from the CPI office, followed by a public meeting at 4 PM at Subrahmanyam Grounds. CPI state secretary K Ramakrishna, assistant secretary JV Satyanarayana Murthy, national executive member Akkineni Vanaja, and state executive member Ravulapalli Ravindranath will address the meeting. CPI district assistant secretary Kondrapu Rambabu, city secretary V Kondalarao, Jathla Sangham general secretary Sappa Ramana, party leaders PLavanya, Chintalapudi Sunil, and AIYF district secretary P Trimurthulu also participated.

Political leaders' language is distressing public; unregulated election spending is driving corruption: Telangana Council Chairman
Telangana Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukender Reddy expressed serious concern over the declining standards of political discourse, cautioning that the language used by political leaders is increasingly distressing the public. Speaking to the media at his camp office in Nalgonda on Monday (July 21, 2025), he urged leaders across party lines to introspect and adopt a more dignified tone. 'The political environment is turning toxic due to the harsh, foul and inflammatory language being used,' he said, adding that such rhetoric was creating public anger. 'Leaders should be mindful of future generations. Systems matter more than individuals,' he noted. On the other hand, Mr. Reddy also found fault with the growing culture of populist welfare schemes, stating that 'freebies are damaging the State and national economy.' He warned that if left unchecked, these schemes could lead to financial collapse. 'Such policies are creating a dependency mindset and eroding the work ethic among people, particularly in Telangana,' he said, pointing to the influx of labourers from states like Bihar and Chhattisgarh. Calling for a shift in focus towards employment generation, he said, 'People should not be made to rely on the government for everything. Our priority must be job creation, not just handing out doles.' Reddy also expressed alarm over rising corruption, particularly in the Irrigation department. 'Officials are inflating estimates and siphoning off large sums. The scale of corruption is enormous,' he alleged. He emphasised that the primary driver of corruption was unregulated election spending and urged the Supreme Court and Election Commission of India (ECI) to intervene. Commenting on the controversial Banakacharla project, he warned it would harm Telangana's interests and asked the government to take immediate note. On the issue of political violence and personal attacks among leaders, Mr. Reddy said such confrontations were unhealthy and cautioned that law would take its own course. He also advised restraint in politically sensitive cases, including that of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K. Kavitha and MLC Chintapandu Naveen aka Teenmaar Mallanna, stating that public representatives must uphold democratic values.

Political manoeuvring overshadowing efforts: Telangana BJP to form panel on Krishna-Godavari water dispute, says N Ramchander Rao
HYDERABAD: Telangana BJP chief N Ramchander Rao announced on Thursday that the party would establish a dedicated committee to thoroughly examine the contentious issue of water sharing between the Godavari and Krishna rivers, particularly in relation to the Banakacharla project involving neighbouring AP. Rao expressed concern that political manoeuvring was overshadowing sincere efforts to resolve these critical inter-state water disputes . Despite the challenges, he conveyed optimism that a harmonious resolution could ultimately be achieved. Meanwhile, Union minister of state Bandi Sanjay expressed his support for the recent meeting between chief ministers of the two Telugu-speaking states, aimed at addressing the pressing issues facing both regions. He stressed the need for clarity, claiming that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and the Congress party in Telangana are essentially two sides of the same coin. Sanjay urged the people of Telangana to reflect on their choices, whether they prefer a govt rooted in conspiracy politics or one committed to addressing and resolving real issues.

Harish slams Revanth over constant flip-flops
Hyderabad: BRS senior leader T Harish Rao launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy accusing him of compromising the interests of Telangana and misleading its people. Addressing a press conference here at Telangana Bhavan, Harish Rao said that Revanth Reddy, who leaked to the media that he would boycott a Delhi meeting if Andhra Pradesh's Banakacharla project was discussed, rushed to Delhi at midnight. What prompted this sudden trip? What secret understanding was reached in the dead of night? Earlier, Revanth Reddy declared in the Assembly that he would not attend the NITI Aayog meeting. Yet later, he did attend it. Even a chameleon would feel ashamed at his constant flip-flops, alleged Harish Rao. Pointing out that in today's press meet, Revanth falsely claimed that Banakacharla was not on the agenda. In reality, it was the first item on the agenda. While Andhra Pradesh Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu confirmed discussions on Banakacharla and the formation of a committee, Revanth denied any such discussion. Is this the level of honesty expected from a Chief Minister? Telangana's people elected Revanth Reddy to protect their interests, not to serve Andhra Pradesh or pay political 'guru dakshina' to Chandrababu Naidu. The truth is like fire; it cannot be hidden. Harish Rao demanded that Revanth apologise to the people of Telangana for misleading them. 'Revanth Reddy's fabrications amount to betrayal. He is proving himself to be a traitor to Telangana, while Uttam Kumar Reddy plays along,' he said. He accused the Congress government of running under the remote control of BJP and TDP. 'Even Congress MLAs admit that TDP agents have infiltrated their cadre. Revanth, who earlier said there was no point in a meeting on Banakacharla, has now agreed to the formation of a committee,' Harish Rao questioned. Harish Rao pointed out that the Central Water Commission, GRMB, and the Polavaram Project Authority had all rejected the pre-feasibility report for Banakacharla. 'These statutory bodies, created through Parliament, denied approvals. How then did the Centre convene this meeting? Why did Revanth agree to a committee? His actions are nothing short of signing a death warrant for Telangana,' Rao asked. He warned that as long as K Chandrashekar Rao and BRS were present, they would not tolerate any injustice to Telangana. 'Both BJP and Congress are working against the interests of Telangana,' he added. Harish Rao concluded with a demand, 'Revanth must offer an unconditional apology to the people of Telangana for today's betrayal. BRS will never accept Banakacharla under any circumstances. We demand an all-party delegation to Delhi. For us, the state's interests are paramount, not petty politics.'

Telangana govt opposes Banakacharla agenda in upcoming CMs meeting
The Telangana government has formally expressed its objections to the agenda set by Andhra Pradesh regarding the Banakacharla project, ahead of a meeting called by the Union Water Resources Minister, CR Patil. In a letter to the Centre, Telangana made it clear that it sees no need to discuss the Banakacharla project during the forthcoming meeting scheduled for the 16th of this month. Instead, the state has suggested prioritising discussions on pending projects related to the Krishna River. Among its proposals, Telangana has sought national status for the Palamuru and Dindi projects, advocated for the Ichchampalli project to be taken up by the Centre, and requested the allocation of 80 TMC of water for the Pranahita project at Thummadihetti. Furthermore, Telangana has proposed a new initiative to harness 200 TMC of flood water. In its correspondence, the Telangana government highlighted that there have been no approvals for the Banakacharla project and that relevant laws and tribunal judgments are being violated. Consequently, officials argue that it is inappropriate to discuss the Godavari-Banakacharla link project, warning that such actions could undermine trust in the central government's regulatory agencies. The meeting, intended to address the concerns of both Telugu states, will now take place at 2:30 PM at the headquarters of the Water Resources Ministry in Delhi, following a postponement from its original date of the 11th due to a lack of positive engagement from the Chief Ministers. Andhra Pradesh, meanwhile, has maintained its focus solely on the Banakacharla agenda for discussion. The Water Resources Ministry has requested both states to submit any additional agenda items for consideration ahead of the meeting.
