Harish Rao peddling lies, KCR running away from Banakacherla debate in Assembly: Telangana Congress president
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president and MLC B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said that Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader T. Harish Rao is deliberately misleading the people of Telangana with baseless and absurd arguments over the recent talks between Telangana-Andhra Pradesh regarding river water, in Delhi. Speaking to the media, Mr. Goud ridiculed Mr. Rao's criticism, pointing out that even Union Minister C.R. Patil had clearly stated the agenda and discussions of the meeting between the Chief Ministers A. Revanth Reddy and N. Chandrababu Naidu, Irrigation Ministers, and officials of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in the presence of the Union Minister. 'Yet, Harish Rao continues to peddle lies to mislead Telangana's people,' he said. Moreover, the Chief Minister, Mr. Reddy, himself explained the discussions in detail at the press meet that followed the talks in Delhi. 'It seems those facts did not register in Mr. Harish Rao's mind,' he said. He alleged that Mr. Rao's only interest is in making noise for publicity without regard for facts. The TPCC president reminded that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had already challenged former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and BRS leaders to come to Telangana Assembly for an open debate on water disputes and other issues concerning the State. 'The Chief Minister also offered to come to the farm house of KCR if he is not interested in joining the debate in the Assembly. But there is no response,' he said. Mr. Goud recalled the statements of KCR when he was the Chief Minister — who said there were no river basins or boundaries, and Andhra Pradesh can utilise the floodwaters in Godavari that were to the tune of 3,000 TMC every year. 'With that assurance, Andhra Pradesh went ahead with the Rayalaseema lift irrigation project when BRS was in power, and the present AP government planned the Banakacherla project. You both have mortgaged Telangana's interests, and yet you blame Congress, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, and Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy,' he said.

Revanth betrayed Telangana people on Godavari-Banakacherla project: BRS leader Harish Rao
HYDERABAD: BRS MLA and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy compromised on the interests of Telangana and betrayed its people by agreeing to the formation of a committee on the Banakacherla project, proposed by the Andhra Pradesh government. 'People won't forgive this,' he said. Speaking to reporters here, after the Jal Shakti Ministry's meeting with CMs of AP and Telangana held in Delhi, the BRS leader said: 'Telangana is not being ruled by the Congress but is being remotely controlled by the BJP and TDP. Why did Revanth Reddy agree to formation of a committee on Banakacherla? The Union government convening an informal meeting is a fundamental mistake and the chief minister attending it is the second (mistake).' 'Revanth Reddy should tender an unconditional apology to the people of Telangana for this betrayal. The BRS will never accept Banakacherla under any circumstances. We demand the government lead an all-party delegation to Delhi. For the BRS, the state's interests are of paramount importance, not petty politics,' Harish thundered. 'Revanth Reddy, who leaked to the media that he would boycott the Delhi meeting if AP's Banakacherla project was discussed, rushed to Delhi at midnight. What prompted this sudden trip? What secret understanding was reached in the dead of night?' Harish wondered. He further said that the CM had falsely claimed that Banakacherla was not on the agenda, but it was the first item on the agenda. 'While AP minister Nimmala Rama Naidu confirmed discussions on Banakacherla and the formation of a committee, Revanth denied any such discussion. Is this the level of honesty expected from a chief minister,' he asked. 'People elected Revanth Reddy to protect the interests of the state. Not to serve the interests of Andhra Pradesh or pay political 'guru dakshina' to Chandrababu Naidu. The truth is like fire. It cannot be hidden,' he said.

BRS flays Cong for comprising State's interest
Former Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has accused the Congress government led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy of compromising the interests of Telangana and misleading its people with regard to river water issues. At a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Rao said the words and actions of Mr. Revanth Reddy are contradictory. He noted that the CM had hinted that he would boycott the meeting in New Delhi if Andhra Pradesh's Banakacherla project was discussed. 'Why did he rush to Delhi at midnight. What prompted this sudden trip? What secret understanding was reached in the dead of night?, he questioned. He pointed out that the CM had falsely claimed that Banakacherla was not on the agenda. In reality, it was the first item on the agenda. While Andhra Pradesh Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu confirmed discussions on Banakacherla and the formation of a committee, Mr. Revanth Reddy denied any such discussion. 'Is this the level of honesty expected from a Chief Minister?,' he wondered. Mr. Rao pointed out that Central Water Commission, GRMB, and the Polavaram Project Authority had all rejected the pre-feasibility report for Banakacherla. 'These statutory bodies, created through Parliament, denied approvals. How then did the Centre convene this meeting? Why did Revanth agree to a committee? His actions are nothing short of signing a death warrant for Telangana,' Mr. Rao said. On telemetry, he clarified that installations up to Pothireddypadu were already set up during the BRS tenure and BRS had proposed similar arrangements at all projects. He criticised the move to shift the KRMB office from Hyderabad to Vijayawada, calling it a betrayal.

Amid Row Over Contentious Project, Andhra, Telangana Discuss Water Sharing
Amid a backdrop of heightened political sensitivities in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Chief Ministers Chandrababu Naidu and Revanth Reddy held a surprisingly cordial and productive meeting in New Delhi on Wednesday. Chaired by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil, the discussions, while notably sidestepping the highly contentious Banakacherla project, yielded significant progress on several long-standing water-sharing issues, underscoring a pragmatic approach by both leaders. Given the domestic political pressures, observers had anticipated a potentially fraught encounter, especially with Naidu pushing forth on Banakacherla, even bringing it up in the meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah. The Telangana chief secretary wrote to the Centre on the eve of the meeting in Delhi that the state is unwilling to discuss the diversion of waters for the Banakacherla project. The tone of the meeting, however, was remarkably cooperative, suggesting a mutual understanding of the need for stability and resolution on shared resources. A key outcome saw Andhra Pradesh agreeing to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's proposal for the installation of telemetry systems to monitor water release from various projects. This technical solution is a tangible step towards greater transparency and could depoliticise future water allocations. It was also decided that the Godavari River Management Board will be headquartered in Telangana, while the Krishna River Management Board will be located in Andhra Pradesh. Another critical agreement they reached was Andhra Pradesh's consent to undertake repairs of the Srisailam Project, a vital piece of infrastructure for both states. This practical decision addresses a maintenance need without wading into broader allocation debates. To resolve outstanding issues concerning other projects on Godavari and Krishna rivers, both states agreed to the formation of a committee comprising officials and technical experts. This committee, slated to be appointed within the next week, will be tasked with finding technical solutions to complex problems, effectively delegating some of the politically charged decision-making. While the absence of direct discussion on the Banakacherla project, a flashpoint between the states in recent times, was noticeable, its omission from the immediate agenda might be interpreted as a deliberate strategy to build trust on less contentious issues first.

Godavari-Banakacherla link project: Revanth Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu in Delhi for crucial river water talks; Telangana opposes Rs 81,900 crore Andhra project
HYDERABAD: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy left for New Delhi on Tuesday night to attend the high-stakes inter-state river water sharing meeting between chief ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, convened by the Union Jal Shakti ministry on Wednesday. Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with his irrigation minister and senior officials, will attend the closed-door meeting scheduled for 2.30 pm. Later in the evening, chief minister Revanth Reddy and Uttam are likely to address the media in the national capital. The two Telugu states are at loggerheads over the river water sharing issue, especially over the Andhra govt's proposed Rs 81,900 crore Banakacherla project. Telangana has raised serious objections to the project, stating it would adversely affect the river water interests of the state. This marks the second letter from the Telangana govt to the Union ministry in as many days. 'Project illegal' In the letter, Telangana's chief secretary urged a revision of the meeting agenda and termed the Banakacherla project 'illegal', citing lack of approvals from key regulatory bodies such as the Godavari and Krishna river management boards (GRMB and KRMB), the central water commission (CWC), and the expert appraisal committee of the Union environment ministry. Stating that the expert appraisal committee already rejected Andhra's pre-feasibility report for the Banakacherla project, the state govt said discussion on the Banakacherla now is premature and undermines the credibility of national water regulatory institutions. Telangana irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar said the need is to prioritise long-pending projects such as the Palamuru-Rangareddy and Dindi schemes. Telangana submitted its own agenda for the July 16 talks, which includes the allocation of 80 TMC for the Pranahita project at Tummadihatti, approval for a floodwater utilisation plan at Inchampalli (200 TMC), and recognition of key lift irrigation schemes as national projects.
