Prada's Banana Balm Review: Here's Why The Yellow Lip Tint Has Gone Viral

After years trialling and testing make-up products for a living - from the best foundation for acne skin to the liquid bronzers that cheats 2 weeks in the Riviera - I must admit that there is a special allure that comes with beauty formulas promising to give you a 'bespoke' effect due to colour-changing properties reacting to your unique pH. The idea of having make-up that not only enhances your natural colouring, but also reacting differently to you feels enigmatic and magical (be honest: how many of us fell for mood rings back in the '90s?). Beauty brands have embraced this need for a tailored approach for years (in Southeast Asia, you'll find green lip balms that turn pink upon contact since the late '90s), with Prada being one of the latest luxury brands to harness colour-changing technology through its Optimising Care Lip Balm, which first launched in a soft pistachio bullet that promises to bring out your natural lip colour. 2 years on, Sabrina Carpenter teased the latest balm in her Manchild video back in June. In it, Carpenter was seen snacking on Prada-branded Banana Jellies (ELLE's beauty team collectively confirms, it is delicious), before taking to TikTok to showcase the primary yellow lip balm. Applied on top of her lipstick, it lends a gentle rose gold iridescence for a whisper of luminosity. While the original Prada Optimising Lip Care balm focuses mainly on hydration and the Lip Blushing Balm imparts a soft, rosy tint, this Lip Balm Frosting Care in Banana Yellow delivers the softest tinge of shimmer and shine without the sticky or glossy feel of a traditional lip gloss. Prada Beauty's global make-up artist Lynsey Alexander created this lip colour as a way to tap into childhood memories of Banana Foam candies while still delivering the luxurious, grown-up, lip colour experience we've come to expect from Prada Beauty. It's an approach that complements the designer brand: serious craftsmanship and science, but with a clever sense of whimsy. On the lips, Frosting Care feels velvety smooth and balmy without any grittiness nor an uncomfortable, sticky feel. Given its translucent finish, it's easy to apply on-the-go, making it the ideal lip product for a low-maintenance, your lips-but-better effect. It does smell gloriously of jelly sweets (rather than actual bananas), which I'm into, but it is something to bear in mind if you're sensitive to scent. That said, the fragrance doesn't linger on the lips. As someone who prefers a bit more colour on their lips, I like to wear mine on top of lip liner ala Carpenter, but if you're simply after luminosity but hate the idea of a liquid gloss, the solid nature of Banana Yellow is well worth considering. The light-reflecting quality creates the illusion of a fuller lip, while the jojoba butter delivers enough hydration to get me through the day. My final verdict? This is an easy breezy, something-but-nothing lip balm that's perfect for the summer months. No fussing with glosses that get caught in your hair, it lends a really pretty shine that'll take you through sun, sea, sand and beyond. And no, it doesn't go on yellow. Butter yellow beauty is this summer's biggest make-up trend

Since this spring, the delectable hue of butter yellow has been seen everywhere. The undisputed shade of this season, we've seen it splashed across runways and adorning the red carpet gowns of celebrities alike. Months into its luminous reign, there's no sign of this trend slowing down. If anything, it's been amped up—as a number of recent high-profile beauty launches attest. It started with our nails. Hermès unveiled a limited edition, soft yellow nail varnish as part of their spring/summer 2025 make-up collection. Meanwhile, the likes of Hailey Bieber and Kourtney Kardashian have channelled California sunshine through their radiant manicures. Retrospectively, Dries Van Noten was also ahead of the curve, with graphic eye make-up looks including buttermilk-hued eyelids appearing on their spring/summer 2025 catwalks. Now, two brand new lip launches fulfilling the 'butter yellow' craze have our attention at peak levels. Rhode, Bieber's explosively popular skincare brand, heralds the arrival of a limited edition Lemontini Peptide Lip Tint this week. A shimmering gold gloss, it's an iridescent counterpart to Prada Beauty's recently announced Prada Balm in Banana Yellow. Unveiled by Sabrina Carpenter, this balm brings the radiance of tropical fruit to lips and cheeks alike. So to be sure, butter yellow is here to stay for the foreseeable. Below, note four ways to capture its irresistible lustre through your beauty look: @nailsbyzola 1 / 4 Butter-dipped digits There's no time like the warmer months to usher in a pastel-hued manicure. And what better way to showcase butter yellow than with some brilliant tips? Celebrity nail artist Zola Ganzorigt was behind Hailey Bieber's 'lemon drop' nails, seen here, blending OPI's Stay Out All Bright and Daffodil Duck Walk for a custom sherbet shade. And while this lemon hue is a touch deeper than the traditionally creamy butter yellow, the sentiment remains the same: go forth and play. From a glazed finish to butter yellow tips and intricate nail art, look to these varnishes for inspiration. BUY NOW @pradabeauty 2 / 4 Keep it balmy The beauty forecast reads: balmy. All manner of conditioning, smoothing and softening lip products remain in high demand. Now, the fruit-inspired formulas of Rhode's Lemontini Peptide Lip Tint and the Prada Balm in Banana Yellow are adding to the appeal of lip care—in yellow. While we're still awaiting Rhode's launch on our shores, and news of the Prada Balm's arrival in Singapore is forthcoming, there's options aplenty to tap into their calming sensibilities for your pout. For those envisioning a coat of bright canary across their lips, worry not: rather, it's about a subtle, golden tint or glossy layer of shimmer. IMAXtree 3 / 4 Graphic eyes Trust Dries Van Noten to have foreseen the butter yellow obsession. On their spring/summer 2025 runway, models sported all manner of brightly hued eyelids and lashes—including subtly vibrant buttermilk eyelids. An instant way to uplift your peepers, there's a multitude of ways to harness the pastel shade vis-à-vis your gaze. Sheer, buildable eyeshadows are a great option for dipping your toe in the trend, allowing you to customise your level of impact. We love the pale iridescence of a palette like Dior's Diorshow Mono Couleur in Gold Star. Alternatively, an eyeliner of slightly deeper pigment such as Stila's Stay All Day ArtiStix Graphic Liner in Charleston commands attention with even a simple slick. @ 4 / 4 Golden child Channel a sun-kissed impression by heeding butter yellow inspiration for your complexion. Rather than appearing pallid or avant-garde, it's all about embracing a healthy coat of golden shimmer. Your best bet for a natural-looking glow is to brush your chosen product across the high points of your face—think the cheekbones and bridge of your nose. And of course, radiance can be heaped up with a more liberal application. This ensures a light-reflecting effect even by evening. On the go, reach for a convenient beauty stick like Pixi's On-The-Glow Superglow in Gilded Gold, while the Dior Backstage Glow Face Palette in Pure Gold offers a selection of yellow gold tones to get playful with.

Ariana Madix Brings Dramatic Hair Transformations to ‘Love Island USA' Season Seven

On the seventh season of 'Love Island USA,' Ariana Madix is storytelling with her hair game. Following the reality dating show's storied success last year, which reached 919.1 million minutes watched in just one week, the 39-year-old host returned to Fiji to host for a second time this June, shaking up the villa with grandiose hairstyles as the ultimate bombshell. From freshly cut fringe to mermaid waves and a gothic-inspired wig, Madix has already pulled off several transformations — and the show hasn't even met its halfway point yet. More from WWD Prada Introduces Juicy 'Banana Yellow' Lip Balm Inspired by Archive Fruit Motif Why Salmon Sperm Is the Latest Game-changer for Glass Skin The History Behind the World's Most Expensive Hats: From Princess Beatrice's Royal Wedding Headpiece to the $2.7 Million Chapeau D'Amour and More Celebrity hair architect Carl Bembridge is the man behind her looks, casting Madix as a modern-day vision of Brigitte Bardot and masterminding her dominatrix alter ego. Aside from Madix, Bembridge has collaborated with a list of stars, including Ariana Grande and 'Love Island' royalty Maura Higgins. He also famously styled Madix's hair last season, too. 'The difference this year is that I now know there are no limits and what I love most is creating a wow factor,' Bembridge told WWD. 'I'm always thinking, 'What can I do next now that that's ticked off the list?'' On his go-to style, Bembridge said: 'I love being super versatile — whether it's natural looks, high-glam wow moments, fashion-forward edge, or flirty '90s vibes. Hair can completely transform a look. It's the cherry on top of the cake in my eyes.' Bembridge was close-lipped when asked about his favorite hair aesthetic from this season thus far, hinting plenty of good ones are still to come. 'What I can say is that we've got some really strong looks coming, very different from last year and also different from what we've done already,' he said. 'And me being me…I'm naturally building up to a wow finale. I've got two amazing ideas for that, and I can't decide between them. I honestly wish I could do both in one night. If I had my way, I would.' Here, WWD looks at Madix's dramatic hair transformations on this season's 'Love Island USA.' In honor of the highly anticipated recoupling at the end of episode 14, Madix added 'oomph' to her usual dirty blond tresses with a twisted updo and forehead fringe. The look was an ode to Brigitte Bardot with stringy pieces dangling around her face. For what's already been deemed 'the most heartbreaking' episode in the show's history, Madix arrived in the villa in true demon slayer form. The host styled her hair in a high, slick-back with twisted pieces pinned in her black ponytail cuff for added dimension on top of her head. Her straightened, mile-long extensions trailed behind her. After a dramatic second week in Fiji, Madix joined 'Love Island U.K.' star Eyal Booker on the 'Love Island USA Aftersun' episode to discuss the events that transpired. Madix met the occasion with mermaid waves and a Y2K-inspired side part. Messy braids were tied between her long extensions, creating the illusion of a Greek goddess. Heads turned when Madix entered the villa in full dominatrix form, complete with a dark brown wig and R-rated accessories for the 'Leather and Lace Party' episode this season. Hairstylist Carl Bembridge leaned into the theme, helping the reality star cosplay as a savage ring leader in a dark brown wig from his collection. 'I considered asking the producers first,' he said of putting Madix in the wig. 'But I decided to ask for forgiveness rather than permission; it felt like a playful risk rather than a serious one. I mentioned it to Ariana, and she was totally up for it.' Cue Madix's 'the road to love is never easy' tagline. The on-screen star mimicked the meaning in this well-known message with a long, braided ponytail dangling behind her back like a winding trail with an end just barely in sight. The extension tip brushed the back of her knees as she walked to meet the islanders in the garden. Marking the end of week one, Madix guest-starred on 'Love Island USA Aftersun' to give her first impressions of all the islanders and their early connections. Her hair, curled and pulled back in a half-updo, was seemingly a metaphor for the ups and downs that came with the first installment of this season. Madix opted for flat-ironed, filthy blond extensions to greet the islanders on night one. In certain lights, the dark brown hues in her hair looked to be the same metallic shade as her chainmail two-piece set. Opening the villa for the first time since last summer, Madix styled her hair in a pile of tangled curls on the right side of her head. The aesthetic was as big as the weight of the episode, with extra volume added to her roots. Prada Introduces Juicy ‘Banana Yellow' Lip Balm Inspired by Archive Fruit Motif

Prada Beauty is peeling back time with a new hydrating lip balm. Inspired by the Italian fashion house's archive motif introduced in the spring 2011 collection, the luxury makeup, skin care and fragrance subsidiary has dropped its latest addition to the Prada Balm line: Banana Yellow. The introduction of the juicy lip product comes just a few weeks after Sabrina Carpenter teased its release in her 'Manchild' music video, which featured her parked in a desolate desert, snacking on Prada-stamped banana candies, now available for a limited time only. More from WWD Priyanka Chopra Jonas Keeps It Classic on 'Jimmy Fallon' With Shiny Black Pumps Why Salmon Sperm Is the Latest Game-changer for Glass Skin The History Behind the World's Most Expensive Hats: From Princess Beatrice's Royal Wedding Headpiece to the $2.7 Million Chapeau D'Amour and More Made with bifidus extract, jojoba oil and banana extract, the pastel yellow bullet, molded in the brand's heritage triangle, leaves lasting moisture and a delectable aftertaste, one that'll likely have you licking it off. The ease with which the formula glides across the lips is intended to mimic the sensory satisfaction of the nylon fabric on which Prada originally printed its whimsical banana design. The finish is translucent like a sheer cloak for both the lips and the cheeks, and on top of that, the balm is said to have a 'glittering effect.' Think of ice fragments in a banana granita. Prada Beauty launched its balm collection in 2023, the same year the company was created under The Prada Beauty Group in collaboration with L'Oréal, which took on the beauty licensee in 2021. The following year, the brand introduced its Prada Color Changing Lip Balm in Astral Pink, featuring Micro-Blushing Technology, which enables the pastel blue formula to adapt to the wearer's lip pH. Prada Beauty has also expanded since its opening to include the Prada Light Highlighter, the Refine Blurring Extending Primer, the Reveal Skin-Optimizing Refillable Soft Matte Foundation, the Dimensions Multi-Effect Refillable Eyeshadow Palette, the Pradalines Gliding Waterproof Smudge-Proof Eye Pencil and the beloved Pradascope Lash Lifting & Lengthening Mascara. Carpenter's sultry visage in 'Manchild' was completed with all these products. Sabrina Carpenter has collaborated with Prada Beauty in the past, boasting the brand's signature makeup items in her video extensions for 'Please, Please, Please' and 'Taste' last summer. Whether she's playing the doe-eyed ex-con in love with her jailmate or the vengeful ex out for his new lover, Carpenter proved to do it all in a face full of Prada makeup. Selena Gomez Debuts New '70s-inspired Shag Hairstyle and Fresh Bob Trim

Who says Selena Gomez can't pull off a shag? The 32-year-old actress signified the end of her clean-girl era over the weekend, debuting new '70s-inspired hair comprised of messy layers and forehead fringe on Instagram. In the selfie, she flashed an open-mouthed smile at the camera; her dark brown tresses tangled and curled around her face. The caption read: 'I would, but I'd regret it, then get it redone so I simply wont #bangs.' More from WWD Tyla Channels Y2K Glamour in Roberto Cavalli Minidress at Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards 2025 Ariana Madix Brings Dramatic Hair Transformations to 'Love Island USA' Season Seven Prada Introduces Juicy 'Banana Yellow' Lip Balm Inspired by Archive Fruit Motif Unlike the even-trimmed micro bangs seen on Pamela Anderson and Anna Wintour, Gomez purposefully took a disheveled approach. Her front pieces were, instead, chopped every which way, at all different lengths like she'd done it herself. Yet, the former Disney Channel star tapped celebrity hair artist Orlando Pita, who revealed the hair was a wig. Harking back to haircut trends of the past, the bedhead style, namely the shag was extremely popular during the '70s. Storied actresses and beloved musicians such as Jane Fonda, Farrah Fawcett, Mick Jagger and Joan Jett boasted the hairdo in more ways than one. Some kept the body of their hair full, while others thinned their locks with lots of layers. Gomez's shag falls somewhere in the middle. The 'Only Murders in the Building' lead has kept her hair short for some time now. In fact, she led the charge in the mod bob haircut movement, which has now won over a slew of female celebrities, including Sofia Richie Grainge, Jenna Bush Hager and Keke Palmer. However, she has been letting her bob grow past the typical shoulder-length parameter. For this hair reveal, Gomez played with '60s-inspired makeup using brown tones to carve abstract designs across her lids. A medium brown shadow was used to draw a line from the outer corners of her eyes underneath her brow bone like inverse wings. Meanwhile, her cheeks were dusted in peach-colored blush, her lips were painted in a coral hue and her brows were brushed up and matted down. Gomez recently drew inspiration from '70s fashion for a Rare Beauty event in May. Honoring her beauty business' fourth annual Mental Health Summit, the makeup mogul wore light blue, wide-legged denim pants with a flare silhouette and a white blazer with exaggerated shoulder accents. She partnered the clothing with pointy white pumps.
