Countdown to Kickoff: Kelvin Banks Jr. is the Saints Player of Day 71

Banks was a draft target to fortify the New Orleans front line There are 71 days left until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2025 regular season. The Saints will start their 59th year of NFL existence at home against the Arizona Cardinals and with a new head coach in Kellen Moore. Offensive tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. is one of the new faces on this year's squad. The Saints' first round choice out of Texas, Banks will be wearing the same No. 71 that was Ryan Ramczyk used while playing at such a high level since 2017. Banks has big shoes to fill, and he is the Saints Player of the Day in our countdown. At Summer Creek High School in Texas, Banks was a five-star recruit pursued by several national NCAA powers. After originally committing to Oregon, Banks switched his decision to Texas. An immediate starter at left tackle for the Longhorns, Banks started every game as a freshman in 2022 and earned 2nd Team All-Big 12 recognition. He'd follow that up with 1st Team All-Big 12 and 2nd Team All-American accolades the following year. In 2024, Banks was viewed as one of the most dominant blockers in the nation. He capped off his collegiate career by starting every game for his three years with the Longhorns. In 2024, Banks was a 1st Team All-SEC selection as well as a unanimous 1st Team All-American. He was also awarded the Outland Trophy, annually given to the best lineman in college football. With the ninth overall choice in the 2025 NFL draft, Banks was selected by the New Orleans Saints. He was the third tackle chosen of eight that came off the board in Round 1 this spring. Banks is expected to step right in as the starting left tackle for New Orleans and was a fixture at the spot throughout OTA sessions and minicamp. Kelvin Banks Jr. is the third offensive tackle drafted as a Round 1 pick by New Orleans in the last three years, joining Taliese Fuaga (2024) and Trevor Penning (2022). The Saints have now spent a first or second round pick on an offensive lineman six times in the last nine years since 2017. Ramczyk (2017) is now retired, but the other five are projected to be the Saints starting offensive line in the 2025 campaign. With Banks projected to be the left tackle, Fuaga will move over to right tackle, where he was a collegiate All-American. Penning will move inside to left guard alongside center Erik McCoy and right guard Cesar Ruiz. The Saints are betting that Kelvin Banks Jr. will be the final piece for what they hope is a dominant line this season.

FedNow delivers new risk management tools

This story was originally published on Payments Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Payments Dive newsletter. FedNow raised the transaction limit for real-time payments to $1 million on Tuesday, from $500,000, the Federal Reserve said in a website post. The Fed has also added new security features, enabling financial firms to limit the dollar amount and transaction speed depending on the customer segment. Banks can now customize how much money their long-standing business customers or individual account holders can send instantly through the network, the Fed said. 'These new value-added features offer FedNow participants more options to customize their instant payments profile, adding to the suite of available tools that allow financial institutions to tailor activity according to risk management needs and customer activity,' Mark Gould, chief payments executive for Federal Reserve Financial Services, said in the post. The Federal Reserve stuck with a prior February plan to raise the limit for FedNow's real-time transactions and allow banks to set parameters on different customer segments. The agency made the move to make its instant-payment service more appealing to banks. 'Feedback from the industry has been invaluable, and we intend to remain agile and responsive to new and changing customer needs as instant payments grow and mature,' Gould said in a Fed's statement. Since its launch two years ago, FedNow's growth has continued apace. It has added roughly 1,400 banks and credit unions to its network across the country, according to the update this week, up from about 1,300 earlier this year. The bulk (95%) of financial institutions on the FedNow network are community banks and credit unions, the Fed's Tuesday post said. The central bank launched the network in July 2023, partly to cater to smaller financial institutions that had been less interested in joining the private rival RTP network run by their big bank rivals through The Clearing House. Both systems have had difficulty luring financial institutions to adopt capabilities for sending payments, as well as receiving payments because the former are perceived as more risky. Indeed, fraud prevention remains a significant hurdle in spurring adoption and use of instant payments in the U.S. Of payment processors and bank technology companies surveyed last year about real-time payments by the U.S. Faster Payments Council about 75% predicted U.S. financial institutions will be able to receive real-time payments by 2028, but they expect only about 35% will be able to send instant payments by that year. One reason for the lag cited by the respondents is concerns about fraud threats, the report noted. As the Fed races to sign up more banks and credit unions for its real-time payments network, The Clearing House has also seen an uptick in use as well. The RTP network's payment volume surged 38% in 2024 compared to the year prior. "Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols" Series in Works

Yara Sameh Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman's Brownstone Productions has inked a first-look deal with Universal Television (UTV). The company was previously set up under an overall deal at Warner Bros. Television. Under the deal, Brownstone will develop and produce TV series with UTV across all platforms. Furthermore, Brownstone has promoted Anna Hughes to vice president and Kristen Spence to creative executive. They will report to Krissy Wall, who is Brownstone's head of television. Alison Small serves as head of film. Brownstone currently has two projects in development with UTV for Peacock. First, there is the comedy 'Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols.' Hailing from writer Joel Kim Booster, the logline states that the show 'follows a struggling singer-songwriter whose life completely turns upside down when she finds herself auditioning to be a part of the first all-American K-pop group.' This marks the latest TV expansion of the 'Pitch Perfect' film franchise, of which Banks and Handelman are integral parts. Peacock previously aired the TV series 'Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin' starring Adam Devine, who reprised his role from the films. Banks and Handelman will executive produce 'Pitch Perfect: K-Pop Idols' along with Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer for Gold Circle Films. Jason Moore will direct and executive produce. Brownstone and Gold Circle produced all three films in the 'Pitch Perfect' franchise, with Banks having directed 'Pitch Perfect 2″ and appearing onscreen in all three films. Moore directed the original film. Brownstone is also developing the series 'Crush' from writer and executive producer Addison McQuigg at Peacock. The show is said to be inspired by the 1995 episode of 'The Jenny Jones Show' titled 'Revealing Same-Sex Secret Crushes.' The logline states that it is 'set within the insane world of tabloid talk shows, weaving together a poignant tale of ambition, heartbreak and murder.' Banks and Handelman are again executive producers along with Patrick Macmanus and Littleton Road Productions, Elliot Page and Matt Jordan Smith for Pageboy Productions, and Joshua Beirne-Golden. UTV and UCP will co-produce. Brownstone has a long history with NBCUniversal, including the company's first-look deal with Universal Pictures. All three 'Pitch Perfect' movies hailed from Universal Pictures, with the franchise having grossed over $1 billion at the global box office. Banks also directed and produced the film 'Cocaine Bear' for the studio.
