EVANSVILLE — Another year. Another talented group of athletes. The Southern Indiana Athletic Conference announced its finalists for the 2025 Banterra Bank Outstanding Athlete of the Year on July 3. Each member school is traditionally allowed to name one male and one female senior athlete for the award. Advertisement The honor is based on athletic achievement, academic success, and community service. The winners will be announced as part of the 16th annual 'Celebration of Champions' on July 10. More: Meet the 2025 Courier & Press All-Metro Baseball Players of the Year, Team Here are the finalists for Male Athlete of the Year: Drew Ferguson (Bosse), Brady Reiter (Castle), Kenyon Peoples (Central), Shane Sims (Harrison), Caleb Schnarr (Jasper), Isaiah Schaefer (Mater Dei), Matthew Fisher (Memorial), Ben Brasher (North), Landon McClarney (Reitz), Luke Hall (Vincennes Lincoln). Here are the finalists for Female Athlete of the Year: Riley Brescher (Bosse), Sadie Winsett (Castle), Mya Skelton (Central), Anna Bullington (Harrison), Monica Lorey (Jasper), Olivia Niemeier (Mater Dei), Myla Browning (Memorial), Hannah Wilke (North), Matea Bradfield (Reitz), Tiah Riggs (Vincennes Lincoln). SIAC Male Athlete of the Year Drew Ferguson (Bosse): Played tennis, golf, and basketball. Had a winning record as a senior at No. 1 singles. Two-time Kiwanis Award in tennis. Academic All-City in tennis and golf with a 4.0 GPA. Will attend Western Kentucky. Brady Reiter (Castle): Played soccer, basketball, and golf. Two-time All-State, including First Team as a senior, and two-time All-SIAC in soccer. USCA All-Great Lakes Region selection. Starting point guard in basketball. Team captain and Kiwanis Award in two sports. National Honor Society. Will play soccer at Wabash College. Advertisement Kenyon Peoples (Central): Played football and basketball. Led the football team in tackles and touchdowns. Two-year captain. A starter in basketball for a team that won 20 games and led the state in charges taken. Academic All-City in football three times and basketball twice. Will attend Southern Indiana. Shane Sims (Harrison): Played basketball. Three-time All-SIAC and two-time All-State. Indiana Junior All-Star. Finished second in school history with 1,513 career points. The all-time program leader in games played and started – the Warriors won back-to-back sectional championships. Class valedictorian, Kiwanis Award, and National Honor Society. Will play basketball at Eastern Illinois. Caleb Schnarr (Jasper): Played tennis and golf. Four-time individual SIAC and sectional champion in golf. Individual regional champion as a junior. Two-time All-State with a pair of top-10 finishes at the state championship. IHSAA doubles state champion and two-time All-State in tennis. Finished fifth academically in his class and the National Honor Society. IHSAA Mental Attitude Award. Will play golf at Indiana. Isaiah Schaefer (Mater Dei): Competed in wrestling. A four-time state qualifier and ranked 19th in the country at 138 pounds. State runner-up as a junior. IHSAA state champion as a senior. Four-time SIAC, sectional, and regional champion. 2023 PNL National champion. Four-time Academic All-City and three-time Academic All-State. Ranked second academically in his class. National Honor Society. Will wrestle at Purdue. Advertisement Matthew Fisher (Memorial): Played football and baseball. All-City Player of the Year, SIAC Player of the Year, and All-State as a senior in football. Two-time team captain. Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year in baseball. IHSBCA All-Star and SIAC Player of the Year as a senior. Kiwanis Award and two-time team captain. Four-time Academic All-City in football and baseball. Academic All-State. Will play baseball at Indiana or turn professional. Ben Brasher (North): Played football and track. Two-time All-SIAC, two-time All-City, and All-State offensive lineman in football. Two-time All-SIAC thrower in track & field. Holds the school record in the shot put. Two-time City, SIAC, and sectional champion. Two-time state qualifier. Four-time Academi All-City in both anda Kiwanis Award in track. Will play football at Indiana State. Landon McClarney (Reitz): Played football and golf. Two-time All-SIAC and All-State as a senior in football. Two-time Academic All-City, Academic All-State, Team Captain, and Kiwanis Award in football. Academic All-City in golf. Will attend Indiana. Luke Hall (Vincennes Lincoln): Played tennis, basketball, baseball, and soccer. Earned 12 varsity letters between the four sports. Multiple-year starter in basketball and baseball. A two-time team sectional champion in tennis. Team captain in basketball and baseball. First Team Academic All-State in basketball and National Honor Society. Finished fourth academically in his class. Will attend Indiana State. A member of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that set the school record. Four-time Academic All-City and member of the Pride of Bosse Marching Band. Will attend Indiana. Sadie Winsett (Castle): Played softball and basketball. Four-year starter and four-time All-SIAC in softball. SIAC Player of the Year and Second Team All-State as a junior. Third Team All-State as a senior. National Honor Society. Will play softball at Lee University. Advertisement Mya Skelton (Central): Played basketball, volleyball, and lacrosse. A four-year starter and two-time All-SIAC in basketball. Won a regional championship as a senior. Team captain and set the program record for career three-pointers. All-State honorable mention in lacrosse. Six-time Academic All-City in basketball and volleyball. Kiwanis Award in basketball. Will play basketball at Olivet Nazarene. Anna Bullington (Harrison): Played softball and track. Two-time City champion in discus. SIAC and sectional champion as a senior. Three-year varsity player in softball. Six-time Academic All-City between both sports. Will attend Indian River State College. Monica Lorey (Jasper): Played soccer, cross country, and track. Four-time All-SIAC and three-time state qualifier in cross country – SIAC Runner of the Year as a senior. Three-time All-SIAC in track & field. Two-time sectional as a senior, plus school record holder in the 4x800 relay. Two-time Academic All-State in soccer. National Honor Society and finished 23rd academically in her class. Class valedictorian and Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. Kiwanis Award. Will attend Purdue. Advertisement Myla Browning (Memorial): Played soccer, basketball and track. Two-time All-City, All-SIAC and All-State in soccer. Two-time All-SIAC in basketball. City champion in 4x800 relay as a junior and regional qualifier in 800 as a senior. Seven-time Academic All-City and four-time Academic All-State. Kiwanis Award in all three sports. Team captain in soccer and basketball. Will play basketball at Indiana Wesleyan. Hannah Wilke (North): Played softball and volleyball. Four-year starter and three-time All-SIAC in softball. Won a regional championship as a sophomore. Five-time Academic All-City. National Honor Society. Will play softball at Frontier Community College. Matea Bradfield (Reitz): Played soccer, basketball, and track. Four-time All-SIAC and two-time All-State in soccer. SIAC Player of the Year as a senior. Set the program record for career goals and is third in career assists. Won a sectional championship as a sophomore. Team captain. Two-year starter in basketball. 4x400 relay city and regional champion as a freshman, plus 4x100 relay City champion. Seven-time Academic All-City and two-time Academic All-State. National Honor Society and Kiwanis Award. Will play soccer at Western Kentucky. Tiah Riggs (Vincennes Lincoln): Played soccer, basketball,l and softball. A multiple-year starter across all sports. Won a sectional championship in basketball as a freshman. Academic All-State and National Honor Society. Team captain in all three sports. Will play basketball at Monmouth College. Memorial's Matthew Fisher and Myla Browning named 2025 SIAC Athletes of the Year

EVANSVILLE — The Southern Indiana Athletic Conference prides itself on the depth and parity within the conference. It annually produces Division I athletes or even state champions. By every measure, the Class of 2025 was another positive addition to a history of success that dates back nearly 90 years. But it still takes a lot to stand out. These two athletes did. Advertisement More: Here are the Class of 2025 SIAC Male and Female Athlete of the Year finalists Matthew Fisher of Memorial High School and Myla Browning of Memorial High School were named the Banterra Bank Outstanding Athletes of the Year on Friday. The award, the highlight of the 16th annual "Celebration of Champions," is based upon athletic achievement, academic success, and community service. Each member school is allowed to nominate just one male and female senior athlete. Memorial's Matthew Fisher (2) passes as the Memorial Tigers play the Heritage Hills Patriots in the IHSAA Class 3A sectional championship at Heritage Hills High School in Lincoln City, Ind., Friday, Nov. 8, 2024. Fisher, the Male Athlete of the Year, was one of the stronger multi-sport athletes in Indiana. He was the All-SIAC Player of the Year in both football and baseball during his senior year. Fisher guided the Tigers to an undefeated regular season on the gridiron with 2,779 passing yards and 42 total touchdowns to only one interception. He was an All-State selection, too. But his future is squarely on the diamond. Advertisement The Memorial graduate was the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year and a potential first-round pick in the upcoming Major League Baseball Draft. Fisher went 6-0 on the mound with a 0.76 earned run average and 61 strikeouts. He allowed only 16 hits, 11 walks, and four earned runs during his final season. Fisher was also a four-time Academic All-City selection, Academic All-State as a senior,r and the Kiwanis Award recipient. Fisher will play baseball at Indiana University should he forego professional baseball. More: Meet the 2025 Courier & Press All-Metro softball Player of the Year, Team Browning, the Female Athlete of the Year, was another one of the stronger multi-sport athletes in the area. She was a three-year varsity starter and two-year captain for the soccer team. The forward had 11 goals and seven assists for the Tigers, earning First Team All-SIAC and All-City, in addition to Third Team All-State. Browning also qualified for the regional in the 800-meter race this spring. Advertisement The Memorial graduate was also one of the top basketball players in the area. The 5-10 guard averaged 14 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals. Browning earned First Team All-SIAC and All-State honorable mention. She was a seven-time Academic All-City and four-time Academic All-State recipient; Browning also earned the Kiwanis Award in all three sports. Browning will play basketball at Indiana Wesleyan. Castle was the SIAC All-Sport champion for the seventh straight year, followed by Memorial, Jasper, North and Reitz. The state champions from the 2024-25 school year were: Memorial boys soccer, Eli Flick and Caleb Schnarr (Jasper tennis), Isaiah Schaefer (Mater Dei wrestling), Adaysha Smiley and Reese Mundy (Jasper tennis) and Jasper girls tennis. The SIAC had six state runner-ups and three IHSAA Mental Attitude Award winners.
