'PARADISE' People took to One visitor said: 'My only question now is when can I return. It was the most relaxing short break I have had, that says a lot as I don't tend to relax. 'I like to see and go all the time. Everything about the place is excellent, when you get past the hype of billionaires and fancy cars, the great and beautiful strutting their well heeled stuff at the casino. 'The cost of food and drink is as good in value as any other city. "The local bus is excellent and the old town is a pure gem for the tourist but as every square meter is in demand, there is a great lived in feeling to every alley and street. 'You just have to look. Forget about the "rich" of Monaco. Visit and enjoy.' Another added: 'I went to French Riviera to watch the F1 race. "I visited the whole area Cannes, St. Paul de Vence, Provence's villages, drove to Les Corniches and of course went to Monaco. 'On the day of the race is a nice, very well organised party at a lovely city. 'We also went there the day after the race to have an idea of their everyday life and it was even greater! The place is a paradise on earth.' 6 The charming streets have numerous cafes, bars and restaurants Credit: Alamy 6 The Monte Carlo is a must-see Credit: Alamy 6 Ryanair currently have flights on offer Credit: Alamy

The back story The couple, who live on the North Shore (Shanna is from Swampscott), are raising three boys. Aaron, born in Yorkshire, England, worked for celebrated New York chef Daniel Boulud for almost a decade and cooked in other top kitchens. The duo opened Bernadette in late 2024. The name is the French word for 'brave as a bear,' say the owners, to symbolize strength and resilience. Barbajuan at Bernadette in Salem. Jessica Rinaldi/Globe Staff What to eat Barbajuan, a specialty of the French Riviera and Monaco, are small fried fritters with Swiss chard and ricotta filling; frisee salad comes with a perfect poached egg, bacon lardons, and lacey-thin toasts; plump mussels from Penobscot Bay are served in a white wine-cream sauce with a crunchy slab of grilled hearty toast; frites (exquisite) with homemade aioli are a lovely accompaniment; vacherin, with orange sorbet and crunchy meringue pieces on top, is a very unclassic and delightful take on the French dessert. What to drink Full liquor license with cocktails like La Vie en Rose (bourbon, hibiscus Lillet) and House of Bernadette (vodka, Lillet, Curacao). A by-the-glass list fits right in with the vibe. It's all French, you're trying pours from Alsace, Bordeaux, Burgundy, Loire, etc., and producers are solid with very good reputations. Nothing you'd call adventurous. Anyone can find something appropriate to drink right here before venturing into the larger list. Advertisement Marshall Cove Moules Marinières at Bernadette.
