Dublin woman tore out supermarket worker's hair over Facebook post

The victim had posted information about a member of Robyn Barnwell's family who was married to a man who had been sentenced for a serious crime A mother of one pulled a clump of hair out of a woman's head over a Facebook post in a row described by her defence as a 'cautionary tale on the dangers of social media'. Robyn Barnwell (25) went to the woman's workplace in a Dublin supermarket and attacked her after the victim posted an 'inflammatory' message that she believed put a member of her family in danger. Adjourning the case, Judge Treasa Kelly said she would consider applying the Probation Act if Barnwell paid €1,500 in compensation. The judge acknowledged that the accused had got 'carried away in the heat of the moment', but said that it was 'totally unacceptable behaviour in a civilised society'. Barnwell, a commercial painter and 'talented footballer', of Raheen Park, Ballyfermot, pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. Dublin District Court heard the accused went to Aldi, Kylemore Road on August 2 last year, punched the woman in the face several times and pulled a clump of hair from her head. Barnwell had no previous convictions. The court heard the victim had posted information on Facebook about a member of Barnwell's family who was married to a man who had been sentenced for a serious crime. The accused felt this was 'opportunistic' as it was none of the woman's business and it put her relative, who was 'blameless', in danger. 'She appears to have put this post up because she doesn't like the Barnwell family,' defence solicitor Lorraine Stephens said. Robyn Barnwell pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. Photo: Paddy Cummins The accused knew where the woman was working and went to 'have a discussion with her' but emotions were running high, and there was a verbal altercation that turned physical. 'She accepts she should never have gone to [the victim's] place of business, it was the wrong behaviour for the right reason, she deeply regrets it,' Ms Stephens said. There was an 'element of provocation' due to the inflammatory language used on the Facebook post and it was a 'cautionary tale of the dangers of social media', Ms Stephens said. There was 'bad blood' behind the case and the incident was an 'isolated incident provoked by emotional distress'. Robyn Barnwell pleaded guilty to assault causing harm. Buccaneers earn high marks from analyst ranking skill position groups

The skill position players in the NFL are among the best athletes in the world. As a result, every team treats the assembly of their team as an arms race to see who can get bigger and better each offseason on their way to hoisting the ultimate prize of the Lombardi trophy. ESPN's Bill Barnwell is the latest analyst to look at the skill position groups around the NFL. The Bucs offense has been so good in recent years that it has helped their playcallers get promoted to head coaching roles in back-to-back hiring cycles. So it makes sense that Barnwell ranked the Bucs' skill players unit as the seventh-best group after being ranked 18th in 2024. Barnwell writes, "Everybody on offense who caught a pass or took a handoff from the 2024 Buccaneers is back, and they're joined by first-round pick Emeka Egbuka. Irving was a superstar as the primary back in the second half of his rookie season. Godwin was off to a white-hot start before suffering a dislocated ankle. And while his cumulative totals were depressed by missing the better part of four games because of a hamstring issue, Evans averaged a career-high 2.6 yards per route run while adding an 11th straight 1,000-yard campaign to his Hall of Fame résumé." The addition of Egbuka is really going to be the wild card of this whole thing for the Bucs offense. Will the first-round picks' arrival be one mouth too many to feed? Or perhaps it will allow for this offense to be the perfect blend of youth and veteran leadership, setting them up for success over the next decade once again. Either way, Baker Mayfield has to be smiling ear to ear once again.

2013 Seahawks are the 2nd best team of the last 25 years, according to ESPN

One of the benefits of time moving forward is the good starts to look great, and the great becomes legendary. Such is the case for the 2013 Seattle Seahawks. While the lone Super Bowl-winning team in franchise history will always be beloved in the Pacific Northwest, their place in NFL lore continues to rise across the collective consciousness of football aficionados everywhere. Recently, ESPN's Bill Barnwell ranked the 25 best teams from the last 25 years. The 21st century is a quarter complete, so why not examine which teams have stood out the most during this span? Seattle's faithful 12th Man will be thrilled to see the 2013 Seahawks rank very highly on this list, near the top even. According to Barnwell and ESPN, the 2013 Seahawks are the second best team in the NFL during the previous 25 years. The 2013 Seahawks trailed only the 2007 New England Patriots for the top spot. Super Bowl loss or not, it's hard to argue that Pats team wasn't an all-timer. Naturally, Barnwell waxed poetic about the Legion of Boom. Where else would you start? He elaborated on just how suffocating the defense was, and how the foundations for this success was built on the treasure trove of draft picks from 2010-2012. However, one aspect Barnwell points out that separates the Legion of Boom from other great defenses of this era (such as Baltimore and Tampa) was the fact the team was better overall, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Barnwell writes: This team had Marshawn Lynch running for 1,257 yards and 12 touchdowns before adding 288 yards and four more scores during the playoff run. Wilson averaged 8.2 yards per attempt, threw for 3,357 yards and added 539 more yards on the ground, all while making a sensibly priced sedan (just under $31,000) per game. Harvin and Sidney Rice, nominally the team's top two wideouts on paper because of their contracts, combined for 16 catches during the regular season because of injuries. Golden Tate, Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse stepped in and held their own. This Seattle team often gets lumped in with the 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs with an assumption that the Legion of Boom carried them. Yes, they were the heart of the team, but it's not like Wilson and Co. were slouches on their side of the ball either. The reason the 2013 Seahawks narrowly missed out on the No. 1 spot was because Barnwell described them as "sloppy" at times that year... and it's hard to argue. Seattle often plays to their opponents level, for good and for ill. They had to survive in overtime against a Tampa team that was 0-7 going into that game, and barely squeaked past a bad Rams team 14-9 on Monday Night Football. Not to mention the ugly 17-10 home loss to Arizona despite intercepting Carson Palmer four times. No, they weren't pretty, but when it mattered this squad got the job done. Not for nothing, but the 2014 Seahawks did crack into the Top 25 at No. 23 overall.

2 Rams teams ranked on ESPN's top-25 team list since 2000

The Los Angeles Rams have had some good teams over the past quarter-century. The franchise has also had some bad squads, but we're choosing to focus on the positive today. ESPN's Bill Barnwell ranked the top-25 NFL teams since 2000 and picked two Rams units at either end of the millennium. Oddly enough, neither won a Super Bowl either. Barnwell first ranked the 2018 Rams team, which lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl, as the 25th-best team in the past 25 seasons. His reasoning stemmed from how that team effectively signaled that head coach Sean McVay who was here to stay as a top-flight play-caller. These Rams felt like the future of football. Building on their stunning 2017 season, it didn't seem as though anything could derail Sean McVay's offense. The 2018 L.A. team was eventually overshadowed by the team that won the title, but over the entire season, it was better than the 2021 edition. Next up: The 2001 Rams. It was Kurt Warner's final season as well as the last year of "The Greatest Show on Turf." Weirdly enough, they also lost to the Patriots in the Super Bowl. This unit made Yahoo Sports' top-25 team list, too, but earned the No. 10 spot on Barnwell's list. Yes, the Rams had the best offense of the past 25 years by this methodology. Even including their playoff run, they averaged 31.3 points, 5.5 more than any other team in 2001. They did this despite turning the ball over 44 times during the regular season, the second most of any team. Turnovers were really the only way to beat them for most of the year; their two regular-season losses came in games in which they coughed up the ball a combined 14 times. When they merely turned the ball over four times or fewer, they went 16-1. This list shows the true dichotomy of the Rams over the past 25 seasons. They oscillated from the best to the worst to the mediocre before now sliding back to the best in the NFL. And with Matthew Stafford on his last legs as an NFL quarterback, the upcoming second quarter-century could shake out to be yet another era for Rams football.

Minnesota Vikings earn high marks from analyst ranking skill position groups

Part of the belief in J.J. McCarthy's development as a quarterback is that a great skill position core will surround him. The Minnesota Vikings have Justin Jefferson, maybe the best receiver in football, but they have plenty of other options around him. Bill Barnwell of ESPN ranked all 32 groups of skill positions in the league, including wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs. Receivers were weighted more heavily than running backs and tight ends for this exercise. Injuries and suspensions also impacted the ranking. Ultimately, Barnwell ranked the Vikings' group 6th in the league. That's one spot lower than their ranking heading into last season. He cites questions about Jordan Addison's potential suspension and T.J. Hockenson's continued recovery from the ACL injury he suffered in December 2023. The players around [Jefferson] might not be as sturdy as they seemed a year ago. Jordan Addison averaged 1.8 yards per route run in his second season, but there's a distinct possibility the 23-year-old will be suspended for part of the 2025 season after he's tried on DUI charges this month. T.J. Hockenson is healthy after missing part of the 2024 season while recovering from a torn ACL, but the former Lions first-rounder didn't score a touchdown and saw his efficiency retreat to where it had been with Detroit (1.7 YPRR) versus where it stood in Minnesota before the injury in 2023 (2.0). That's the difference between a good tight end and a Pro Bowler, and although that could be variance, I'd like to see that 2023 version of Hockenson again. The addition of Jordan Mason should ease Aaron Jones' workload, Barnwell says. However, he goes on to say that he thinks Jones can be more efficient in 2025 and that Mason needs to prove he wasn't just a product of the Kyle Shanahan system in San Francisco. These are fair criticisms and are the reason the Vikings are sitting outside the top five on this list. It will come down to McCarthy to get everyone involved and have the offense continue to be explosive, regardless of circumstances.
