Basavaraj Kattimani award conferred upon Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa
Belagavi: Renowned Kannada litterateur and progressive thinker Prof Baraguru Ramachandrappa was conferred with the Basavaraj Kattimani Kadambari Sahitya Prashasti for lifetime achievement by the Basavaraj Kattimani Pratishtana at a ceremony held on Monday at the Govt Sangolli Rayanna First Grade College in Belagavi.
Public works minister Satish Jarkiholi, Pratishtana president Yallappa Himmadi, Rani Channamma University vice-chancellor Prof CM Thyagaraja, Prof. Kiran Gajanur from Central University of Karnataka at Kalaburagi, late Basavaraj Kattimane's daughter Manjula Biradar, and numerous professors and literature enthusiasts attended the event.
In his address, Minister Satish Jarkiholi highlighted the importance of preserving and disseminating progressive Kannada literature.
He called upon the literary community to use modern technology to introduce such influential writings to the younger generation. "Writers who stood for Kannada land, language, and cultural consciousness have always played a vital role in guiding society and politics. This tradition must be carried forward," he said.
Accepting the honour, Ramachandrappa said the award, named after Basavaraj Kattimani, a celebrated novelist known for his progressive ideology, was not just a personal achievement but recognition of progressive thought itself. He expressed happiness over being the recipient of several major literary awards, including the Pampa Award and Nrupatunga Award.
