Taunton Town defeat the Romans in latest pre-season fixture

Taunton Town continued their preparations for the new season with a victory against National League South side Bath City. After a 4-1 victory of Mousehole on Saturday (July 5), the Peacocks welcomed their fellow west country side to the Cygnet Health Care Stadium on Tuesday (July 8) night. Advertisement A late Kane Simpson goal was the only thing separating the sides as Taunton Town were victorious. New signings Niall Thompson, Ryan Lane and Ben Seymour were in from the start while Josh Owers captained the side. The first half of the match started out with both sides trying to establish some possession and Taunton suffered an injury setback on 17 minutes as Ryan Cainey was hurt. He was taken off and replaced by Jayden Nielsen. Just before the half hour, the Bath City goalkeeper had to keep out a header from his own teammate to prevent Taunton taking the lead and minutes later Scott Wilson bared down on goal for the Romans but Lane was able to prevent him creating a chance on goal. Advertisement James Walker was forced into a save on 41 minutes after a free kick was awarded to the visitors 20 yards from goal and Nielsen had a shot which fizzed just wide on the stroke of half time. In the early minutes of the second half Nick Grimes came on for a trialist and on the hour mark manager Luffman made four changes – Austen Booth, Chris Zebroski, Tom Purrington and a trialist on for Ollie Woodhouse, Owen Brain, Ben Seymour and Josh Owers. 15 minutes from time Tom Symons came on for Ryan Lane. On 83 minutes Nielsen had a shout for a penalty turned down but within 60 seconds, Taunton were ahead after a close-ranger finish by Kane Simpson. Advertisement Speaking after the match to the club's media, Richard Luffman said: 'I won't get carried away, it is just pre-season and it was a really good test for us. 'There were some realty good individual performances, but we looked like a robust unit.' Taunton Town's next match will be another friendly, this time away from home against Willand from Southern League Division One South. Kick off in Devon is 7.45pm.

Will Jenkins Davies joins Bath City after leaving Plymouth Argyle

Midfielder Will Jenkins Davies is joining National League South side Bath City after being released by Plymouth Argyle. It is a move which sees the 20-year-old reunited with his former Argyle under-18s head coach Darren Way, who was appointed as Bath's manager in December. Jenkins Davies has spent much of the last two seasons playing in National League South on loan to Torquay United from Argyle. Advertisement He made 21 starts and 13 substitute appearances for Paul Wotton's Gulls last term and scored six goals as they finished runners-up to title winners Truro City on goal difference. Overall, he played 12 times for the Pilgrims' senior side, starting six games. What turned out to be his last match for the Pilgrims came against Tom Cleverley's Watford in a 2-0 Carabao Cup second round loss at Vicarage Road last August. Advertisement Way, whose Bath side finished 15th in National League South last season, is excited about the signing of Jenkins Davies. "It's a player I know extremely well, I worked with Will for four years while I was working at Plymouth," he said. "He's someone who has got a huge amount of talent. Twenty years of age, probably been a little bit unfortunate that he has not broken into the first team at Plymouth Argyle with them getting promoted to the Championship. He's very committed, he's a 24-hour professional, knows what the game demands and has got fantastic character and personality. "I think the supporters will like what they see. He's very attacking minded, box to box, got great energy, real desire and commitment to score goals, arrives in the box at the right time in the right place. I expect big things from him. "He scored a lot of goals with his head, off his left foot, his right foot, someone who is technically very good and I think he's a great addition to the squad." Advertisement Way added: "There was a huge amount of competition to sign him. I have built a great relationship with Will over a number of years and probably that was a massive selling point in him signing for Bath City. "I think the moment I left Plymouth Argyle I have stayed in contact with his agent, who I have to say has been fantastic throughout this process. He has always kept me updated of his situation. "Will had decisions he had to make and it's never easy when you are going through that process because he has been at Plymouth for a long time. There was a lot of hard work that has gone into getting him to sign." You can read more of our Argyle stories from Plymouth Live by clicking HERE

Agutter spells out how Worthing have best chance of winning title

Chris Agutter says it is all about the team ethic for Worthing as they push for the title. The Rebels boss expects a tough test from Bath City at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium tonight (7.45pm). A win would take Rebels second in Vanarama National League south, a point behind Dorking Wanderers. But they will be aware such scripts are not always followed, as was shown against Farnborough last week. They bounced back on Saturday with a last-gasp win at Chelmsford with Bath were holding Eastbourne Borough to an ugly 0-0 draw. Agutter said: 'It will be the team that gets us over the line. 'A lot of individuals before Christmas got us into an amazing position. 'Loads of 4-3s and 3-2s and Danny Cashman at Boreham Wood and Jack Spong away at Weston. 'Whereas after Christmas, where we have been on this great run, the team is doing that. 'It will be the team over this final stretch that will give us the best chance to win the league.'. Tuesday (7.45pm unless stated) Sky Bet League One: Lincoln City v Crawley Town. Vanarama National League, south: Worthing v Bath City. Sussex Transport Senior Cup, semi-finals: Eastbourne Borough v Littlehampton (7.30pm, Culver Road). Isthmian League, premier division: Chatham v Hastings. Isthmian, south east: East Grinstead v Hythe (7.30pm), Beckenham v Three Bridges, Deal v Steyning. Southern Combination, premier: Crawley Down Gatwick v Pagham (7.30pm), Lingfield v Loxwood, Midhurst v Roffey.
