Independence Day being dedicated to theme ‘Marqa-e-Haq'
ISLAMABAD: Under the directions of the prime minister of Pakistan, a high-level meeting decided that this year's Independence Day was being dedicated to the theme 'Marqa-e-Haq', the Battle for Truth to honour the courage, faith, and resolve of the nation. While chairing the high-level meeting on Tuesday, Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal reviewed the decisions taken on the celebrations so far. He reiterated that this year's Independence Day was being dedicated to the theme 'Marqa-e-Haq', the Battle for Truth to honour the courage, faith, and resolve of the nation. He said that the celebrations will send a clear message to the world that Pakistan stands proud, strong, and committed to its sovereignty. He added that 'at the same time, the government aims to highlight the steady progress being made in economic recovery, defence resilience and international recognition of Pakistan's leadership, economic recovery, and expertise showing that Pakistan's journey is not just about survival but about rising to its full potential'. Senior representatives from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Heritage and Culture, Ministry of Education and Professional Training, Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and other departments participated in the meeting to discuss how to make the day truly reflective of the feelings, aspirations, and pride of the people of Pakistan. While discussing the activities of the celebrations, the planning minister stressed that every sector, every directed chairman HEC and secretary Education should ensure that all universities and schools should celebrate the day in the same format. The same was advised for provincial celebrations and celebrations abroad in collaboration with the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis. A robust discussion took place where the committee members shared the planned activities and innovative ideas for celebrations at the federal and provincial level. The minister said that a comprehensive plan should be developed with budgets. Speaking to the participants, Federal Minister Iqbal said: 'This year, we are not just commemorating another Independence Day, we are marking a moment of national revival. A moment that reflects the resilience of our people, the resolve of our state, and the rise of Pakistan as a global voice of strength, peace, and purpose. The world has seen that while Pakistan is a peace-loving nation, it will never compromise on its sovereignty. Our recent defence of our territorial integrity showed our maturity, strength, and our determination to protect regional stability without weakness.' Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, addressing the meeting, said: 'The nation stands as one united, unshaken, and ready to defeat any designs against it. Our civil and military forces are shoulder to shoulder. These celebrations will reiterate to the world what they are already telling us that we are united and strong.' The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ataullah Tarar, shared that extensive plans were underway with song competitions, special programming and a documentary. He assured that the celebrations will be reflective of the achievements of the country and celebrate the global acclaim the country is receiving. Federal Minister for Federal Education and Professional Training Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, said: 'Our schools and students are full of passion and excitement to celebrate the day with different activities like debates, essay competitions, painting competitions and many other exciting initiatives.' During the meeting, participants shared a range of proposals to ensure that the celebrations reflect the hearts of ordinary Pakistanis and involve everyone — from the cities to the villages, from students to artists, and from businesses to the diaspora. Plans were discussed for national songs, heartfelt dramas, poetry gatherings, documentaries, cultural fairs, public events, school competitions, and global embassy activities, all designed to inspire the nation and tell its story to the world. General's star rises to marshal skies
Listen to article The federal cabinet on Tuesday approved the elevation of Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal in recognition of his exceptional military leadership during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, which successfully repelled recent Indian aggression and safeguarded national sovereignty. The decision, taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, marks a rare move in Pakistan's military history. The rank of Field Marshal – the highest in the army – is traditionally reserved for outstanding wartime leadership and valour. The elevation follows a decisive military response to cross-border hostilities earlier this month. An official statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) attributed 'Field Marshal Asim Munir' expressing his gratitude upon receiving the new title, saying he was thankful to Allah Almighty and dedicated the honour to the entire nation, the Pakistan Armed Forces and particularly to the civilian and military martyrs and veterans. "This is not an individual honour but one for the Pakistan Armed Forces and the nation as a whole," the ISPR statement quoted Field Marshal Asim Munir as saying. He also thanked the president, the prime minister and the cabinet for their trust, saying that the "honour is a responsibility entrusted to me by the nation, and millions of Asims are ready to sacrifice themselves to uphold it". He also thanked the nation. In a related decision, the federal cabinet also agreed unanimously to extend the tenure of Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, whose term was nearing completion, citing the continuity of defence leadership as critical to national security. An official statement issued after the meeting stated that the promotion was given in line with the army chief's leadership during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, which was launched in response to an unprovoked attack by Indian forces in the night of May 6 and 7. The operation had successfully disrupted the offensive and safeguarded key strategic and civilian areas. The cabinet noted that Pakistan's sovereignty and territorial integrity were challenged, and credited the Armed Forces of Pakistan with executing a coordinated and effective defence. General Asim Munir played a central role in directing the response, it said. The cabinet congratulated the entire nation on a decisive victory in the 'Battle for Truth', referring to Marka-e-Haq – the military's victorious defence against a sudden and unprovoked assault by India during the first week on May. The cabinet statements said that Indian forces launched an unjustified and aggressive campaign, targeting civilian areas and attempting to violate Pakistan's territorial integrity. General Munir, praised for his courage, strategic acumen and cohesive command, was credited with uniting the armed forces under a synchronised military strategy that decisively thwarted the enemy's ambitions. The cabinet declared that his "unparalleled leadership" ensured a historic national success and merited the rare promotion to Field Marshal, a title conferred only once before in Pakistan's history. Prime Minister Shehbaz personally briefed President Asif Zardari on the decision, securing his confidence on the move. The cabinet also decided that officers and personnel of the Pakistan Armed Forces, veterans, martyrs and Pakistani citizens from various sectors, would be awarded high-level state honours in recognition of their valuable services during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. In a separate statement, meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended heartfelt congratulations to the army chief on his promotion to the rank of Field Marshal. He said that during Marka-e-Haq, General Asim Munir's leadership and professional abilities thwarted the enemy's malicious intentions. Shehbaz added that General Asim Munir has been endowed with exceptional qualities by Almighty Allah and his courage, perseverance and wisdom played a key role in the success of Operation Bunyanum Marsoos. He reiterated that army chief's promotion was in recognition of his valuable services in defending the homeland and for taking steps to maintain the balance of power in the region. He acknowledged that from the army chief to every soldier who gave a decisive response to the enemy's aggression along the borders during Marka-e-Haq, all served bravely in defence of the country. The prime minister stressed that the entire nation, including himself, took pride in the army chief and the veterans, martyrs and families of the brave armed forces under his leadership. President Asif Zardari congratulated the army chief on his promotion to Field Marshal, praising his role in responding to the unprovoked Indian aggression and thwarting hostile intentions. "The rank of Field Marshal is recognition of your services in defence of the country," the president said. He commended Field Marshal Asim Munir and the armed forces for their effective response to Indian attacks, calling their strategy under the army chief's leadership as decisive and effective. The president also acknowledged his contributions to national security, sovereignty and the fight against terrorism. The president also congratulated Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu on the extension of his tenure, crediting his leadership for a strong air response and a clear defeat of the Indian Air Force. The president extended his best wishes to both Field Marshal Asim Munir and Air Chief Marshal Sidhu. The decision to elevate Gen Asim to the rank of Field Marshal was hailed by people from all walks of life. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah warmly welcomed the promotion of COAS Gen Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal, extending his heartfelt congratulations on this prestigious honour. Earlier, Shehbaz had declared May 10 to be observed annually as Youm-e-Ma'raka-e-Haq (Day of the Battle for Truth), marking the country's resounding success in Operation Bunyanum Marsoos against India. Shehbaz had also unveiled substantial financial compensation packages for both civilians and military personnel affected during the Pakistan-India war. Operation Bunyanum Marsoos was launched by Pakistan on May 10, 2025, as a retaliatory response to unprovoked Indian aggression, including missile strikes on Pakistani airbases and civilian areas. The operation, named after a Quranic term meaning "solid structure," aimed at neutralising key Indian military installations and demonstrate Pakistan's military resolve. Following Indian attacks, the Armed Forces of Pakistan targeted India's BrahMos missile storage facility in Beas, airbases in Udhampur and Pathankot, and a military intelligence training facility in Rajouri. Pakistan's armed forces also shot down at least five Indian fighter jets, including three Rafale aircraft. The downing of the jets, particularly the Rafales, was a notable development, as it was the first confirmed combat loss of the French-made aircraft. Pakistan's strong response had soon drawn international attention, with global powers urging both nations to de-escalate tensions and avoid further military confrontations. Subsequently, upon US President Donald Trump's intervention, both sides had agreed to a ceasefire, which was still in place. President Trump had also urged both sides to hold talks to settle their longstanding issues, including the Kashmir issue.

India bites the dust
Following the monumental success of the Battle for Truth, Pakistan now shines on the global stage like a full moon. From East to West, the world is abuzz with the historic victory achieved by Pakistan, which compelled an enemy five times its size to surrender. Through successful diplomacy, a formidable military, and a courageous nation, Pakistan has carved a new identity in international affairs. In the wake of the Pahalgam false flag operation, India launched a barrage of baseless accusations against Pakistan, with its media functioning as a propaganda wing of the Modi regime. Despite these efforts, India failed miserably in convincing the international community of its narrative. A major turning point came when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered an open and transparent investigation into the Pahalgam incident by a third-party country — an offer India arrogantly dismissed. Between May 6 and May 9, India attempted to forcibly impose war on Pakistan, violating international laws by crossing the international border and launching a series of unprovoked attacks. It began with ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC), followed by two consecutive days of drone strikes, and culminated in a failed incursion by the Indian Air Force. Throughout this period, Pakistan exercised remarkable restraint while simultaneously building a strong diplomatic case at the global level. India's miscalculation — mistaking Pakistan's pursuit of peace for weakness — proved to be a grave strategic blunder. On May 10, Pakistan's firm and decisive response reverberated around the world. In a press conference, Director General ISPR General Ahmed Sharif had earlier stated that Pakistan's response would be so clear and forceful that the international media would confirm its validity — this is precisely what transpired. When Pakistan retaliated, international media outlets across the West and the Middle East condemned India's aggression. Pakistan's precision strikes on Indian air bases, coupled with unprecedented cyberattacks — termed by global media as the largest in history — stunned Indian authorities. India was caught off-guard by the scale and intensity of Pakistan's response. Pakistan Air Force played a decisive role in securing this victory, while the intelligence community, through accurate assessments, ensured successful operations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's decisive leadership in making difficult choices was instrumental in this historic triumph over a much larger adversary. Under the command of Army Chief General Asim Munir, Pakistan's military forces — Army, Navy, and Air Force — demonstrated their operational superiority in modern warfare. Operation Bunyanun Marsous (Fortified Foundation) will be recorded in history as a landmark achievement. In just five hours, Pakistan reversed the tide of war and left the Indian military disoriented, ultimately forcing the Modi government to capitulate. While Pakistan's armed forces fought on the frontline, the diplomatic offensive was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who successfully presented Pakistan's case internationally. On the media front, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari effectively countered Indian disinformation campaigns at home and abroad. India now faces a severe internal political crisis following its humiliating defeat. The Modi government and its party are under immense pressure. Indian media, complicit in spreading fake news — including fabricated claims of capturing Islamabad and Lahore — has become the subject of global ridicule. Pakistan's fighter pilots, the valiant falcons of the skies, have set new benchmarks that are now considered case studies for militaries worldwide. Western outlets have openly acknowledged the Pakistan Air Force's skill and capabilities. Alongside the military and government, the patriotic zeal of the Pakistani nation has been nothing short of extraordinary. The younger generation has stood shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces in defence of the motherland. International media, including prominent US outlets, now recognize Pakistan's military as one of the most capable in the world. It is nothing short of divine favour that a nation founded in the name of Islam has triumphed over an adversary five times its size. Today, the world reverberates with the strength and resolve of Pakistan. This victory is a testament to the strategic foresight of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the military leadership of General Asim Munir. Credit also goes to PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif, under whose guidance, Operation Bunyanun Marsous was conceived and executed. Pakistan now looks ahead. Having overcome immense challenges, the nation is poised for progress. Insha'Allah, in the coming years, Pakistan will emerge as the most developed and militarily resilient country in the region. Ready for war and peace, choice is yours, PM tells India
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday visited the frontline areas of 'Operation Bunyan-um Marsoos,' part of Marka-e-Haq (Battle for Truth), expressing solidarity with armed forces and lauding their role in defending the country's sovereignty. On May 10, Pakistan launched 'Operation Bunyan-um Marsoos' and deployed its Al-Fatah missile and targeted multiple Indian military installations. Pakistan destroyed BrahMos storage facilities at Beas and Nagrota and S-400 battery systems at Adampur and Bhuj were also attacked and effectively neutralised by Pakistan Air Force. During his visit to Pasrur Cantonment near Sialkot on Wednesday, prime minister was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal and Attaullah Tarar, Corps Commander Sialkot, and senior civil and military officials. Shahbaz met with officers and soldiers actively engaged in the military operation. 'The nation is proud of your dedication and sacrifice,' the prime minister told troops during his interaction, as per a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office. The prime minister also announced plans to visit various air and naval bases in the coming days to meet with personnel from the Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy, in a show of support for all branches of the armed forces. During his visit, Shehbaz said it is up to India to choose war or peace in relations with Pakistan. 'We are ready for war and peace. Choice is yours,' he said. Prime minister also warned India from stopping water flow after it held the Indus Water Treaty in abeyance. 'If you stop our water, then it is the red line. Water is our right. The brave, valiant forces will fight for our right,' he said. The prime minister said the Kashmir issue should be resolved as per the United Nations resolutions and then talks will be held on trade. He said trade talks cannot be held in isolation but rather through a comprehensive dialogue. He said Pakistan has called for a complete and partial investigation into the Pahalgam attack and agreed to fully cooperate, but India responded by attacking in the dark of night and received a befitting reply. He concluded by saying that Pakistan's martyrs have always been a source of pride for the nation. 'The nation shall eternally remain indebted to them.' Also during the day, PM Shahbaz held a call with UN chief Antonio Guterres in which 'he expressed concerns over the continued provocative and inflammatory remarks by Indian leadership, as a threat to the fragile regional peace,' his office said in a statement. Pakistan's foreign ministry said that it rejected Indian Prime Ministers Narendra Modi's 'provocative and inflammatory assertions' and his 'propensity to fabricate misleading narratives to justify aggression.' 'Make no mistake, we will closely monitor India's actions and behaviour in this regard in the coming days. We also urge the international community to do the same,' it added in a statement. Earlier, Pakistan returned a captured border guard to India, in a fresh sign of detente after a ceasefire ended four days of conflict between the two neighbours. The guard was captured a day after an April attack in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 26 people and sparked tit-for-tat missile, drone and fighter jet attacks. 'Purnam Kumar Shaw, who had been in the custody of Pakistan Rangers since 23 April 2025, was handed over to India,' India's Border Security Force said in a statement. The handover was 'conducted peacefully and in accordance with established protocols,' it added. 'I am very happy today,' Shaw's wife Rajani, who is pregnant, told reporters following the announcement. She had earlier told the Indian Express newspaper that before the ceasefire she had 'lost all hope.' Pakistan's army announced on Wednesday a new death toll from the fighting, saying India's 'unprovoked and reprehensible dastardly attacks' killed 40 civilians, half of them women and children. 'History will eternally record how, within a few hours, Pakistan's defenders extinguished India's unprovoked aggression with unmatched precision and resolve,' he said. While interacting with officers and soldiers at the frontline, the Prime Minister lauded their high morale, exceptional professionalism, and unflinching readiness, according to the ISPR statement. The Prime Minister further affirmed, 'Pakistan takes immense pride in its brave sons; they are the crown jewels of the nation.' He added that the blatant aggression against innocent civilians—resulting in the martyrdom of children, women, and the elderly—while labelling them as terrorists is utterly shameful and violates all international laws, norms, and morality. Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that despite Pakistan's offer of a neutral investigation, India deliberately evaded the path of accountability, as it had nothing to prove. 'Based on a false pretext, bloated arrogance, and ego, they launched the offensive—for which they have received a very befitting response,' he said. He concluded by saying that Pakistan's martyrs have always been a source of pride for the nation. 'The nation shall eternally remain indebted to them.'
