Fight in Beaver Falls leads to shooting on 4th of July, man shot multiple times

Two people are now in the hospital after a fight led to a shooting in the City of Beaver Falls. According to information provided to KDKA-TV, just after 10 p.m. on the 4th of July, police were called to the 300 block of 12th Street for a reported shooting. Once they arrived, they learned that a 47-year-old man had been shot in the leg multiple times and taken to the hospital via a personal vehicle. He ultimately had to be flown to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment. At the time of publishing, he is in stable condition. An investigation by police learned that the shooting happened after a person threw fireworks into the area where a group of children were playing. That led to a confrontation between the 47-year-old victim and the suspect, 20-year-old Jaden Stull. Stull started to run away from the victim, but then turned and pointed a gun at him, leading to the victim tackling Stull. Stull fired the gun four times, which hit the victim in the thigh and shin area. During the fight, Stull also shot himself in the hand. Both Stull and the victim are in stable condition, according to police. Stull is now facing charges of aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, firearms violations, simple assault, and recklessly endangering another person. A warrant has been issued for Stull's arrest.

New video shows moments before deadly Beaver Falls crash

A new video shows the moments before a deadly two-vehicle crash in Beaver Falls, Beaver County, over the weekend. Two people were killed and two others were injured in the crash along Seventh Avenue on Sunday afternoon. Two vehicles and a pedestrian were involved in the crash. KDKA obtained security camera video on Wednesday that shows how fast the driver, Israel Tun Cooch, was going in his pickup truck before the collision. The video shows him speeding down Seventh Avenue moments before the crash. Police in Beaver Falls said Cooch was drunk, speeding and ran a red light. "I pulled up to my house and I get out and I hear a screech and then I hear a big boom and I hear screaming," said Toni Hahn, hostess at Athens Family Restaurant. Officials said 23-year-old Sheylee Young-Davis and 25-year-old Matthew Lance Jr. were killed in the crash. The force of the collision threw their vehicle on top of Carrie Koch, pinning her underdeath it. Koch had just finished her shift as a waitress at Athens Family Restaurant on Seventh Avenue. Her boss, Marina Brown, raced to the scene before Koch was flown to the hospital. "She was pinned under the vehicle," Brown said. "Everyone said we do not know how she survived. She was lying there, calm. I approached her and said, 'What can I do for you?' She said, 'No, I'm good, just get the sun out of my eyes.'" Tun Cooch was denied bailed. He faces 20 charges, including 13 felonies. Court records show his blood alcohol content was at least twice the legal limit, which is 0.08. Police in Beaver Falls said he also did not have a license, and that was the case when Cranberry Township police officers arrested him in November 2021. Beaver County District Attorney Nate Bible confirmed to KDKA that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is lodging a detainer on Tun Cooch. "The more I'm hearing about him, the more disgusted I become," Brown said. "I saw him that day. He was probably standing 5 feet away her." Koch, a 48-year-old grandmother and mother of three, is recovering in the hospital after surgery. She fractured her hips and legs. "It's heartbreaking, but now just praying she is going to be able to walk," Hahn said. "That's all I want." An online fundraiser for Koch has more than $20,000 as of Wednesday night. There is also a donation jar at Athens Family Restaurant "All for Carrie," Brown said. "The tears, the well wishes, just everyone's concerned."

Blackhawk High School seniors each honored with $1,000 scholarship in honor of former classmate

Seniors at Blackhawk High School in Beaver Falls are days away from graduation, but on Friday, they were surprised with early gifts as they prepare for their futures and higher education. Throughout the morning at the senior awards assembly, students accepted honor after honor, but among the class of more than 200 12th graders, one person was missing: Benjamin Banks Jr. At 10 years old, Ben Jr. died from a brain aneurysm, a complication from polycystic kidney disease. To remember his life, his classmates and teachers shared their favorite memories in a video before his parents, Ben Sr. and Marie, and his sister, Grace, took the stage. "If you remember one thing about my son, remember his kind nature," Ben Sr. said to the students. Then, they made an announcement they've been holding in for four to five years. "We have the great honor to award a $1,000 scholarship to every single graduating student in his class," Grace said. Each member of the senior class received a $1,000 scholarship as a part of the Benjamin Banks Jr. Memorial Foundation, which his family created shortly after his death. It was a bittersweet moment for Alesa Lincheck, who was in Ben Jr.'s first-grade class and was holding back tears. "It was just really nice of them to do that for all of us, the whole class," Lincheck said. "We have a big class too, so honestly, it's just so generous." For his family, it was a chance to see how many lives their son touched, as a kid obsessed with cars, facing challenges like autism and ADHD. "It was like the completion of a long goal that we've been going toward, and doing it in our son's name is just the best," Ben Sr. said. "Seeing all those kids grown, it's just hard, but I'm so happy for them and the lives they have in front of them," Marie said.
