Bed Bath and Beyond is back: Brand that went broke returns with first physical store

Bed Bath & Beyond is back — sort of — after the company filed for bankruptcy two years ago. After filing for bankruptcy in April 2023, Bed Bath & Beyond closed its last storefronts in the months following the announcement. The brand was sold off and bought out of its bankruptcy for $21.5 million by Beyond Inc, formerly known as But now a new hand is at the wheel at Bed Bath & Beyond — The Brand House Collective, formerly known as Kirkland's Inc, according to a press release. Kirkland's is not the same brand as Kirkland Signature, the house brand at Costco, but instead a home decor and furnishing business operating brick-and-mortar storefronts under the name Kirkland's Home. On Monday, The Brand House Collective announced it will be opening a new Bed Bath & Beyond Home store in Nashville, Tennessee on August 8, reviving the previously dead brand. 'We're proud to reintroduce one of retail's most iconic names with the launch of Bed Bath & Beyond Home, beautifully reimagined for how families gather at home today,' The Brand House Collective CEO, Amy Sullivan, said in a statement. She said the new Bed Bath & Beyond location "isn't just a store," but it's a "fresh start for a brand that means something special to so many families." "With Bed Bath & Beyond Home we're delivering on our mission to offer great brands, for any budget, in every room. It's a powerful addition to our portfolio and a meaningful step forward in our transformation," the CEO said. The announcement noted that customers with older Bed Bath & Beyond coupons may use them during the grand opening. The store will be offering new coupons as well. The first 25 customers who make a purchase will be given an "incredible free gift" of a premium 10-inch memory foam queen size mattress. The mattress typically sells for $226.99, according to the company. The company plans to open five more Bed Bath & Beyond Home stores in the Nashville area and plans to convert 75 of its Kirkland's Home stores into the new brand in 2026.

First Bed Bath & Beyond Home store in Nashville to open this August

US home decor retail chain The Brand House Collective, formerly known as Kirkland's, will open its first Bed Bath & Beyond Home store in Nashville, Tennessee, on 8 August 2025. This marks the company's inaugural launch under its new identity following shareholder approval on 24 July 2025. This June, the company disclosed strategic adjustments to its operations and management. The overhaul includes a shift to become a multi-brand retail operator, streamlining its physical footprint, and enhancing core business processes to foster growth. The strategy involves consolidating properties and closing underperforming stores to reduce excess inventory, aiming for faster stock turnover and improved asset returns. Furthermore, the company plans to operate 290 stores, housing brands such as Kirkland's Home, Bed Bath & Beyond Home, and Overstock. The company said: "To celebrate our grand opening on 8 August, in honouring our brand's history, we're bringing back the beloved Bed Bath & Beyond coupon." The retailer has invited customers to redeem their legacy coupons or receive a new one at the store, with the first 25 purchasers receiving a free memory foam mattress. From today (29 July), The Brand House Collective will trade under the new ticker symbol 'TBHC', with no action required from shareholders concerning the change. Earlier in the month, the company revealed a series of executive appointments as part of its transformation into The Brand House Collective. Specifically, Andrea Courtois took on the role of senior vice-president and chief financial officer, succeeding Mike Madden. Pickleball courts to replace former Bed Bath & Beyond near Massachusetts mall

Unlikely friendship blossoms on the pickleball court between two men 25 years apart A new pickleball facility is replacing a shuttered Bed Bath & Beyond store in Massachusetts. The Picklr is set to open in the 36,000 square-foot space at Endicott Square in Danvers, right across from the Liberty Tree Mall. The national chain that offers summer camps, leagues and clinics for adults and children already has locations in Burlington and Westfield. The Bed Bath & Beyond in Danvers closed in 2023 after the company declared bankruptcy and went out of business. Other retailers have stepped in to take over the vacant stores, such as Burlington and Ocean State Job Lot. Boston Business Journal executive editor Doug Banks tells WBZ-TV that indoor pickleball courts are proving to be a popular option for malls looking to fill space in a difficult retail environment. A pickleball center moved into a closed Neiman Marcus store at the Natick Mall, and Patriot Place in Foxboro is debuting outdoor and indoor courts next month. "For pickleball companies, like this case The Picklr, they're adding players and they're adding interest in this growing sport, but for the landlords it's also providing foot traffic," he said. Indoor courts also solve the problem of noise complaints about pickleball. Earlier this year, Nantucket considered banning pickleball across the island because neighbors had issues with the decibel level. Some residents in Braintree have also complained about the unrelenting sounds of the sport, which has exploded in popularity and drawn hundreds of players a day to the town's outdoor courts.

Francesca's veteran joins Kirkland's as CFO amid transition to ‘Brand House Collective'

This story was originally published on Retail Dive. To receive daily news and insights, subscribe to our free daily Retail Dive newsletter. As it morphs into 'The Brand House Collective,' a multi-brand retailer and supply chain operator that includes Bed Bath & Beyond and Overstock, Kirkland's on Tuesday announced a slew of leadership appointments. Most prominently, Francesca's financial executive Andrea Courtois on July 21 will join as chief financial officer; she also previously had leadership roles at La Senza, Lane Bryant and Lands' End. Courtois succeeds longtime Kirkland's executive Mike Madden, who returned to the company in 2022 to take the post. Michael Sheridan, a veteran of Community Brands, Ceridian and Comdata, joined the company on Monday as general counsel and corporate secretary, and Mandy Gauldin has been promoted to vice president of talent and culture, the company also said. Kirkland's CEO Amy Sullivan billed this slate of appointments as a sign of 'continued momentum in advancing our transformation.' The company just a few weeks ago announced shakeups to its board and executive suite. 'The team we are building brings a powerful mix of fresh perspectives and deep expertise, united by a clear mandate: move faster, lead with accountability and drive meaningful outcomes,' she said in a statement. 'As The Brand House Collective, we're raising expectations and building an organization that delivers results brand by brand." The Brand House Collective joins Kirkland's with Beyond Inc. and its brands Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock and BuyBuy Baby; shareholders vote on the move at Kirkland's July 24 annual meeting. The goal behind the formation of most such conglomerates is to achieve, as Sullivan put it, a 'multi-brand operating model designed to scale profitably.' Last month, as Kirkland's reported double-digit Q1 declines in its top- and bottom-lines, Sullivan acknowledged that its existing partnership with Beyond 'needed to evolve.' Beyond Inc. in May acquired the home goods retailer's IP for $5 million. The companies had forged a strategic partnership in October, when Beyond provided Kirkland's with $17 million in debt financing. The tie-ups are not just operational: These brands are also enmeshed to varying degrees. Last month Kirkland's said it is going forward with plans to consolidate real estate and then treat about 290 of its locations 'as the foundational footprint for Kirkland's Home, Bed Bath & Beyond Home, and Overstock.' That includes converting Kirkland's Home stores to Bed Bath & Beyond Home stores and co-branding Kirkland's Home and Bed Bath & Beyond Home online. Kirkland's Home is closing dozens of stores in new rebrand, adding to list of retailers shutting locations in 2025

Dozens of Kirkland's Home stores will close as part of the retailer's recently announced rebranding efforts. Some existing stores will be converted to Bed Bath & Beyond Home stores as part of the transformation, the company said this week. Kirkland's will streamline its footprint by closing at least two dozen of its 313 existing Kirkland's Home stores. The company will launch its first Bed Bath & Beyond Home store in Brentwood, Tennessee, in August 2025, with five stores to follow. Pending the initial market launch, the retailer intends to open approximately 75 additional stores through 2026. The Tennessee-based retailer also plans to open its first physical Overstock store location in Nashville, with about 30 additional stores to open after the initial launch. These plans align with Kirkland's broader goal to be a multi-brand retail operator. 'By consolidating real estate and leveraging underperforming store closures to reduce excess inventory, we believe we will drive faster inventory turn and maximize return on assets,' the retailer said in a press release. 'Following the consolidation, we expect to move forward with approximately 290 of our current store locations as the foundational footprint for Kirkland's Home, Bed Bath & Beyond Home, and Overstock.' Fast Company contacted the brand to request a list of locations that will close. We will update this story if we receive a reply. Kirkland's Home rebrand reflects a broader transformation Kirkland's corporate name will officially change to The Brand House Collective pending shareholder approval at the company's next annual meeting on July 24, 2025. Its ticker symbol will also change from 'KIRK' to 'TBHC,' pending approval next month. Kirkland's CEO, Amy Sullivan, explained the intention behind the rebrand in the company news release: 'We're aligning our identity with our vision to become a multi-brand merchandising, supply chain and retail operator—and backing it with decisive actions to strengthen our foundation: reducing excess inventory, closing underperforming locations, optimizing real estate assets, and enhancing talent across the organization.' Amy Sullivan will lead as the CEO and chief merchant and creative officer of The Brand House Collective. The company announced the following additions to its corporate team: Chief Operating Officer Jamie Schisler will oversee operations. VP General Merchandising Manager of Bed Bath & Beyond Home Kerri Dlugokinski will lead all merchandising efforts. VP of Supply Chain Courtenay Adolf is responsible for global sourcing, transportation, and distribution centers. The retailer also announced changes to its board of directors. Effective June 24, 2025, appointees Eric Schwartzman, Neely Tamminga, Tamara Ward, and Steve Woodward will serve as board members. In October 2024, Kirkland's announced a strategic partnership with Beyond, Inc., which owns brands Bed Bath & Beyond, Overstock, and buybuy Baby.
