New Shows & Movies To Watch This Weekend: ‘Happy Gilmore 2' on Netflix + More

This weekend, settle in with one of the many great movies that have arrived to streaming, like the new Happy Gilmore sequel on Netflix, the A24 horror-comedy Death of a Unicorn on HBO Max, The Phoenician Scheme on Peacock, or the arrival of Wicked to Prime Video. (Looking for a new show to watch? Netflix is releasing the second half of The Sandman season 2, and the new songwriting docuseries Hitmakers this week, too.) Not sure which new releases to check out? Let us here at Decider help you figure out what to watch this weekend and where to stream it. New Movies & Shows To Stream This Weekend: Happy Gilmore 2, Wicked, Death of a Unicorn and More I've been waiting three decades for another warm glass of shut the hell up and it's finally here. Happy Gilmore 2 arrives to Netflix this week, and we're thrilled to confirm that Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller have all joined Adam Sandler for the sequel. Also out this week is Wicked, which is now on Prime Video, and the weird, darkly funny Death of A Unicorn, which drops on HBO Max this Saturday. New on Netflix July 25: Happy Gilmore 2 Nearly 30 years after the original came out, Happy Gilmore 2 is arriving on Netflix. The original film introduced us to Happy Gilmore, one of Adam Sandler's most beloved characters of the 1990s, a hockey fanatic who realizes he can turn his slapshot into a lucrative golf swing. The sequel, out on Netflix this Friday, reunites much of the original cast, as well as cameos from several pro golfers, and Bad Bunny, too. WHERE TO WATCH HAPPY GILMORE 2 New on Prime Video July 25: Wicked Oscar-winner Wicked has already been available on demand and Peacock at various times over the past year, but this week it also drops on Prime Video, so if you haven't yet watched 2024's musical/pop cultural phenomenon of the year, there's no better time, especially since part two arrives this November in theaters. WHERE TO WATCH WICKED New on Max July 25: Death of a Unicorn Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega star as Elliot and Ridley Kintner, a father and daughter who accidentally kill a unicorn on the way to a weekend getaway in Death of A Unicorn. When Elliot's billionaire boss (Richard E. Grant) learns about what happened – and hears the creature's blood seems to have magical, curative properties, he decides to experiment with it and see what else it can do. Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, Jessica Hynes, and Téa Leoni co-star. Two of Apple TV+'s golden boys are uniting for a night of conversation. The event is happening Aug. 15 at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills. Severance, praised as one of the more inventive and cerebral TV dramas on air, is coming off of 27 Emmy nominations for its second season, the most of any show this year. Fellow Apple series The Studio was a breath of fresh air in the comedy space and quickly became an obsession in Hollywood after debuting in March thanks to its A-list cameos and its skewering of the town. It goes into the Emmys with 23 nominations, the most ever for a freshman comedy. 'Ben and Seth are two of the most innovative storytellers working today, each shaping and redefining the entertainment landscape in completely different ways,' said Horowitz, whose podcast is known for newsmaking, career-spanning conversations. 'To have them share the same stage — at a moment when their work is being celebrated at the highest level — is exactly the kind of conversation Happy Sad Confused was made for. Oh, and they're also really funny. This is going to be a special night.' Tickets are available here. New movies and shows this week on Netflix, Hulu and Paramount+

Here's what's new on Netflix, Hulu, Paramount+, Apple TV+ and Prime Video. What we're watching: The highly anticipated sequel to "Happy Gilmore," a new adventure series about a young "Black genius" and a documentary chronicling the history of hip-hop. " Happy Gilmore 2" available Friday on Netflix What's inside: This sequel, almost 30 years in the making, follows the titular character's comeback to the golf course with Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald reprising their roles. What they're saying: "The chaos in golf, [how] the sport is changing, the different factions and different, wild ways you can play golf did inform the decision to make this movie now," director Kyle Newacheck tells Axios. " Washington Black" available now on Hulu State of play: Based on the novel of the same name, this series follows the 19th-century, globe-trotting adventure of an 11-year-old escaped slave and science prodigy. What they're saying: Executive producer Selwyn Seyfu Hinds tells Axios that while the story begins on a plantation, "Washington Black" is not about slavery. "This is a story about a Black genius," Hinds says. "This is a story about a kid who literally flies." " Hip Hop Was Born Here" available now on Paramount+ The intrigue: LL Cool J hosts this series that charts the history and legacy of hip-hop as a genre and cultural movement. Behind the scenes: Guest appearances include Big Daddy Kane, Doug E. Fresh, Jadakiss, Method Man, Rev Run and Roxanne Shanté. " Hitmakers" on Netflix Twelve songwriters and producers come together at high-stakes writing camps to create hits for stars like John Legend, Shaboozey, and Blackpink's Lisa in this new unscripted series. Available now " Trophy Wife: Murder on Safari" on Hulu The three-part docuseries dives into the case of former Pittsburgh dentist Larry Rudolph, convicted of killing his wife on an African hunting trip. Available now " Shiny Happy People: A Teenage Holy War" on Prime Video This chapter in the "Shiny Happy People" series uncovers the stories behind evangelical youth organization Teen Mania — founded by Ron Luce in the 1990s. The docuseries examines the group's disturbing practices and how its shift toward militant rhetoric and political activism created a ripple effect that can still be seen today. Available now " Acapulco" Season 4 on Apple TV+ The fourth and final season of this comedy follows present-day Máximo (played by Eugenio Derbez) as he works to restore Las Colinas before the grand reopening. In 1986, young Máximo (Enrique Arrizon) does whatever it takes to get Las Colinas back on top of the annual ranking of Acapulco's "Best Hotels." Available now " The Hunting Wives" on Netflix Brittany Snow stars in this new series based on the 2021 novel of the same name by May Cobb. Available now " Justice on Trial" on Prime Video Emmy-winning Judge Judy Sheindlin stars in this new series that re-examines landmark criminal cases that have directly shaped the American justice system. Available now " Trainwreck: P.I. Moms" on Netflix

Photo courtesy of Apple TV+ July 23 (UPI) -- Severance director Ben Stiller celebrates his late parents in a new documentary for Apple TV+, Stiller & Meara: Nothing is Lost. The feature will highlight the cultural impact of Stiller's parents, comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, and will examine how their careers influenced family life, the streamer says. "I feel very fortunate to be partnering once again with the incredible team at Apple TV+," Stiller said in a statement. "This time on a project that is very personal to me and my family. It's exciting to finally get to share it with audiences; and a great honor to celebrate my parents, both as I knew them growing up, and as I've come to know them in new ways through the making of this film." He and his family will be in front of the camera as well, a press release states. Nothing is Lost will have a limited theater run beginning Oct. 17 before arriving on the streamer Oct. 24. Stiller also produces the documentary. His show Severance is the streamer's most-watched series.
