Swiatek blasts past Bencic into Wimbledon final
Iga Swiatek banished the last of her grasscourt demons to blaze into her first Wimbledon final with a quick-fire 6-2 6-0 demolition of Belinda Bencic on Thursday. Swiatek, the clay court specialist who had never gone past the quarter-finals at the All England Club before this year, romped past Bencic on a sun-drenched Centre Court to tee up a final against American Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova had stunned world number one Aryna Sabalenka earlier in the day but a second upset never looked on the cards as five-times Grand Slam champion Swiatek quickly got her nose in front. The 35th-ranked Bencic did not do a lot wrong but was broken twice in the first set and three times in the second as a sizzling Swiatek brought her A-game to what turned into a one-sided contest.

Iga Swiatek Pummels Belinda Bencic In Straight Sets To Reach 2025 Wimbledon Final
Last Updated: Swiatek wrapped up the semi-final in two straight sets against Bencic, within an hour and 15 minutes, to enter her first-ever Wimbledon final. It was light work for Poland's World No. 8 Iga Swiatek, who blitzed Swiss star Belinda Bencic in straight sets with ease, to book her place in the 2025 Wimbledon final on Thursday. The five-time Grand Slam winner dominated Bencic with effortless ease, putting her away in two easy sets of 6-2, 6-0 in the second semifinal of the Women's Singles. In what was also Swiatek's first Wimbledon semi-final, the Pole looked in total control — compared to her rival Sabalenka in the first semifinal earlier today — dictating the pace of the match to clobber a hapless Bencic, who stood no chance today. Swiatek blitzed through the first set 6-2 in no time, and made even lighter work of the Switzerland national in the next set, as she bullied Bencic into submission swiftly with a clean sweep to seal the second set as well in no time. Swiatek will now face off against the USA's Amanda Anisimova — yet another first-time Wimbledon finalist — as both women will battle it out on Saturday in search of their first title here at the All England Club. Wimbledon 2025: Swiatek routs Bencic to reach her first final
LONDON: Iga Swiatek routed former Olympic champion Belinda Bencic 6-2, 6-0 on Thursday to reach her first Wimbledon final, where she will face Amanda Anisimova. The five-time Grand Slam champion, seeded eighth at the All England Club, dominated her Swiss opponent from the start, wrapping up victory in 71 minutes on Centre Court. "Honestly, I never even dreamed that it's going to be possible for me to play in the final. So I'm just super-excited and proud of myself and I don't know, tennis keeps surprising me," said Swiatek. "I thought I had lived through everything, even though I'm young, I thought I experienced everything on the court but I didn't experience playing well on grass, so that's the first time and I'm super, super excited and just enjoying it." On a baking Centre Court, the 24-year-old caught Bencic cold, racing into a 3-0 lead. Bencic, ranked 35th in the world, found her footing, holding serve twice but Polish star Swiatek broke to love in the eighth game to take the match by the scruff of the neck. Bencic, who returned to action in October, six months after giving birth to her daughter, Bella, was immediately under pressure in the second set as Swiatek broke for a 2-0 lead. The rampant Swiatek did not allow Bencic a single game in a remarkably one-sided second set. Despite her impressive form, Swiatek has largely gone under the radar at this year's Wimbledon, dropping just one set so far while the top seven women's seeds were all eliminated. After slipping down the rankings, she is now back in the world's top four having reached her first ever grass-court final at Bad Homburg last month. Swiatek has won four French Open titles on clay, as well as the 2022 US Open on hard courts, but until this year she had never been beyond the quarter-finals at Wimbledon. She will face Anisimova for the first time in her career on Saturday after the American 13th seed beat world number one Aryna Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to reach her first Wimbledon final.

LONDON - Iga Swiatek banished the last of her grasscourt demons to blaze into her first Wimbledon final as the former world number one produced a performance of sizzling intensity to complete a quick-fire 6-2 6-0 demolition of Belinda Bencic on July 10. Swiatek, the claycourt specialist who had never gone past the quarter-finals at the All England Club before this year, was simply on another level to her Swiss opponent as she teed up a final against American Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova had stunned world number one Aryna Sabalenka earlier in the day but a second upset never looked on the cards as five-times Grand Slam champion Swiatek quickly got her nose in front. The 35th-ranked Bencic did not do a lot wrong but was broken twice in the first set and three times in the second as Swiatek brought her A-game to what turned into a one-sided contest. 'Honestly, I never even dreamt that it was going to be possible for me to play in the final so I'm just super excited and just proud of myself,' a smiling Swiatek said. 'Tennis keeps surprising me, I thought I lived through everything even though I'm young. I thought I'd experienced everything on the court. I didn't experience playing well on grass so that's the first time and I'm super excited and enjoying it.' Swiatek, a four-times French Open champion, has been honest about her struggles to come to terms with the demands of grasscourt tennis. Top stories Swipe. Select. Stay informed. Singapore CPF Board uses AI to improve call centre services, prioritise help for less tech-savvy users Yet it seems she may have flicked a psychological switch this season with the 24-year-old's confident Wimbledon displays coming on the back of a run to the final in the grasscourt warm-up event at Bad Homburg. Against Bencic, Swiatek's intensity levels were off the scale, her focus and sharpness of movement a sight to behold. Her every muscle fibre seemed to be twitching with eagerness to get the job done, while even her fist bumps were crisp and to the point. The 28-year-old Bencic, who returned from a maternity break in October 2024 and started this year ranked 489, certainly did not hand victory to Swiatek. She made fewer unforced errors than her fired-up opponent but when Swiatek is in this mood, she is very hard to beat. Terrible nightmare Bencic had said she uses the time before she drifts off to sleep to visualise her gameplan for her next match. If this was what she saw on the evening of July 9 it must have been the precursor to a terrible nightmare. Every part of Swiatek's game was functioning at its peak - her serve was relentless, while she fired winners evenly off both flanks, hitting 26 in total. Strolling on court with her usual playlist of AC/DC, Guns N' Roses and Led Zeppelin blaring through her headphones, Swiatek soon had Bencic rocking. A Bencic backhand that crept long offered the Pole her first break point and she immediately grasped the opportunity as she gobbled up a midcourt put-away. With the Swiss serving to stay in the first set at 5-2, Swiatek put her foot down again, racing to 0-40 and claiming the opener when an off-balance Bencic dumped a backhand into the net. For a fleeting moment at the start of the second set, Bencic managed to create some pressure on the Swiatek serve, earning two break points. Swiatek, however, saved them both and broke in the next game to leave Tokyo Olympic champion Bencic with a mountain to climb. Swiatek sapped the last dregs of spirit from her opponent when she broke for a 4-0 lead with another punishing forehand return and was not in the mood to hang around. She went after the Swiss' serve at the next opportunity, spurning her first match point before a backhand return winner wrapped up the contest. 'Today was just a different level from Iga. She played amazing and I didn't feel like she let me in the match for one second,' Bencic said. 'There's nothing I really regret. In the end, she was just too good, and I was a step too short.' Iga Swiatek breezes past Belinda Bencic and into her first final at Wimbledon
The Pole has been growing in confidence on grass all fortnight and was calmness personified in a 6-2 6-0 victory over Bencic that lasted just 72 minutes. It would have been even quicker but for a lengthy delay three games into the contest when, for a third time on Centre Court on Thursday, a spectator was taken unwell. It was, by her exceedingly lofty standards, a torrid campaign on her favoured clay for the 24-year-old but a run to the final of the grass-court tournament in Bad Homburg on the eve of Wimbledon appears to have been the catalyst. That was the first final Swiatek had reached at any level since winning her fifth grand slam title at the French Open last spring, and now she is only one match away from matching Carlos Alcaraz by winning major trophies on each surface. She said on court: 'Honestly I never even dreamt it was going to be possible for me to play in the final. Sensational Swiatek strikes on Centre Court ✨ Iga Swiatek produces a remarkable performance against Belinda Bencic to win 6-2, 6-0 and reach her first #Wimbledon final 👏 A defiant semi-final showing from the No.8 seed 👊 — Wimbledon (@Wimbledon) July 10, 2025 'I'm just super excited. I thought I experienced everything on the court but I didn't experience playing well on grass. 'I feel confident and I'm just going for it. For sure it's working.' Given her extra experience at the latter stages of slams, and the fact she is yet to lose a final, she will go in as the favourite against Anisimova, who nevertheless will bring a lot more firepower than Bencic. The Swiss has had a superb fortnight and will return to the top 20 on Monday less than nine months after returning to the tour following the birth of daughter Bella last April. She was on the back foot from the start here, though, as Swiatek began with purpose and seized on the underpowered serve of her opponent. The hot weather has resulted in hard, bouncy courts, and they have certainly been to the Pole's liking, with Swiatek converting a 3-0 lead into a straightforward first set. She wobbled slightly at the start of the second, serving two double faults, but Bencic could not take advantage and Swiatek swiftly set about turning a first Wimbledon semi-final into a maiden final.
