KUCHING (July 9): The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) has been encouraged to establish a dedicated outlet to showcase and market its community-based natural products.
The suggestion was made by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar during a courtesy visit by SBC representatives to the Astana Negeri Sarawak today.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Wan Junaidi expressed strong support for SBC's initiatives to commercialise products derived from traditional knowledge and indigenous plants unique to Sarawak.
During the visit, he and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, were introduced to several of SBC's flagship products, including LitSara®, a range of essential oil-based personal care items developed under Sarawak's first Benefit Sharing Agreement (BSA).
The development of LitSara® involves the active participation of the Penan and Lun Bawang communities, embodying an inclusive approach to sustainable development.
'We truly appreciate SBC's commitment to advancing Sarawak's biodiversity in a way that is scientific, inclusive and sustainable while delivering tangible socio-economic benefits to local communities,' he said.
Also present during the visit were SBC chief executive officer (CEO) Dato Dr Yeo Tiong Chia, deputy CEO Margarita Naming, and head of corporate affairs Asha Devi Kaushal. community natural products Sarawak Biodiversity Centre SBC Wan Junaidi
