Bihar gangsters moved between hotels, got haircut to hoodwink cops
1 2 3 Kolkata: Bihar gangster Tausif Raza booked a barber through an app and trimmed his hair and beard to avoid arrest. He and his three aides, along with a local woman, checked into the Golden Inn Hotel near Park Circus post-midnight on July 17 and stayed there for seven hours before changing hotels again and shifting to the Anandapur guest house. A joint briefing by Kolkata Police STF, Bengal STF, and CID senior-most officers at Bhabani Bhawan shared the chain of events of when and how Tausif, his cousin Nishu Khan, and their two associates entered the city before being finally nabbed. The cops also explained why they did not arrest the four initially detained from Sukhobristi at New Town. According to officers, it was on July 18 around 9 am that they came to know that Tausif and his cousin Nishu were entering the state, probably headed to Kolkata. By then, the four were already in the city, having entered Sukhobristi at 11.24 pm on July 17. They entered Kolkata between 10 pm and 10.30 pm. The car took the AJC Bose Road and crossed Chingrighata, said sources. Ehsaan, though, decided to shift to another friend Abhishek's house in Sukhobristi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Five of them were set to travel to Mandarmoni to celebrate a birthday and they did not want Tausif to hamper their plans. Tausif stayed at the complex from 11.24 pm to 12.10 am, hoping to meet Ehsaan. They were not carrying any mobiles. Tausif took the phone of the guard and called Sahil in Bihar, complaining that Ehsaan failed to meet him. His car was then traced in the Park Street area around 3.50 am. The gang then checked into the Park Circus hotel before leaving it again. "The Bengal STF members used ANHP cameras to track the white SUV they were travelling in as the accused gave no other leads. The Bihar STF shared some pictures and a car photo," said Gaurav, IG (Bengal STF). Solon V Nesakumar, additional CP (KP STF), said they used real-time intelligence, both technical and source-based, to track down the accused's car in a residential colony. Cops said the accused took the help of a woman before the shooting at Patna, hoping they would be "treated as family".

5 ‘shooters' arrested in Kolkata for Patna gangster hospital killing
5 men gun down Chandan Mishra in ICU Five men linked to killing of murder convict Chandan Mishra in a Patna private hospital on July 17 were arrested in a guest house in Kolkata's Anandapur late Saturday by a joint team of Bihar SIT and Bengal STF. A white sedan used to flee Patna was also seized. Four of them were seen on CCTV entering and exiting Room 209 on Paras HMRI Hospital's second floor, where gangster Mishra, 36, from Bihar's Buxar was shot multiple times. He was on parole for liver surgery. Their capture came more than 12 hours after five others were detained at a housing complex in Kolkata's New Town for allegedly aiding the gang's movement. All 10 are being questioned. Bihar Police identified the alleged gang leader as Tauseef Badshah and alerted Bengal counterparts with details of the fleeing vehicle seen on Durgapur Expressway. Tauseef reportedly made a phone call upon reaching New Town Friday, seeking shelter in Sukhobrishti but was turned away. He contacted a broker for accommodation, but was again denied. The group then moved to Anandapur. Traffic CCTV picked up their vehicle, prompting a raid. 'All five had changed SIMs, but we tracked their new numbers using IMEI data,' said a policeman. Five Bihar policemen posted at Shastri Nagar PS — under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls — were suspended for dereliction of duty, said Patna SP (central) Diksha.

2 held for creating fake Aadhaar, lens on terror links
Kolkata: The Bengal STF has arrested owners of a mobile shop on Birbhum for allegedly creating fake Aadhaar cards, using forged documents, in exchange for money. Sheikh Miraj and Abdul Quddus, alias Sheikh Munna, were rounded up from Sattor in Parui on Sunday. An STF officer said they were investigating their possible links with Bangladeshi terror agencies, given that two arrested JMB men—Saab Sheikh alias Saab Rabbi, also an Ansarullah Bangla Team terror cell member—frequented Sattor. "Miraj and Munna might have been helping the Pakistani spy network, with fake Aadhaars being used to get Indian SIMs," said the officer. The two were presented in the Bidhannagar court on Monday and sent to seven-day police custody. West Bengal STF busts forged ID syndicate, two arrested in Birbhum
Kolkata: Two persons were arrested from Birbhum district on Monday after the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) dismantled 'a well-organised, inter-state syndicate which forges government documents/IDs,' people in the know said. 'The two prime accused are Sheikh Miraj Hossain (21) and Abdul Kuddus (30),' a senior official of the Bengal STF said. 'The group was involved in fabricating fake official documents for fraudulent purposes,' senior official sources said. 'A good number of forged official documents and digital tools were seized during the operation,' according to an official. 'A police case was registered at the Special Task Force (Headquarters) Police Station on Tuesday under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita — the Information Technology Act , the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, and the Foreigners Act,' an official statement by the Bengal STF said. Live Events This marks a major breakthrough by the Bengal STF, as reports about fake passport rackets and fraudulent document syndicates involved in forging Aadhaar cards, passports, and other documents have emerged from various parts of Bengal in recent months. It is learnt that the West Bengal CEO's office has also been receiving documents from the Foreign Registration Office (FRO) to verify EPIC cards daily — a number that has increased in recent months. After several fake passport rackets were busted in West Bengal, there has been a rise in verification requests of EPIC cards being sent from the FRO and police to the Bengal Election Commission office every day, a senior official told ET. 'Now, for passport-related applications, complete information on the EPIC of the applicants is being sought from the EC. For this, we are receiving 4–5 verification-related queries from FROs and the police every day,' a top EC official said.

Bengal duo helped ISI set up honey trap
Kolkata: Two men, Mukesh Rajak and Rakesh Kumar Gupta, arrested by the Bengal STF from East Burdwan for reportedly helping Pakistan-backed ISI operatives, played an important role in setting up honey traps. The ISI agents used the WhatsApp numbers and OTPs, shared by Rajak and Gupta, to pose as women and then trap men from defence and other crucial fields. While the two denied direct links with ISI, they confessed to transmitting information through SIM and OTPs to contacts in Delhi and Mumbai. Investigators found substantial financial transactions in both personal and organisational accounts, now under scrutiny. Both their mobiles provided leads, said police. "Rajak and Gupta have been involved in these activities for about three years, establishing their base in East Burdwan early this year," said a senior STF officer. "We are examining their phone records, bank accounts and organisational documents to uncover the full extent of their operations."
