Season 11 Berlin Rookie Test: Formula E teams announce nominations, eligibility rules explained
Image credit: Formula E The Berlin Rookie Test is set to return this year, a day after the upcoming Berlin E-Prix in the German capital. All the Formula E teams are supposed to nominate two rookies for the test. The test gives young, aspiring drivers a chance to try their hand at the Formula E cars and impress prospective teams amid their quest to excel in the motorsport. Who can participate in the Berlin Rookie Test? The Season 11 Berlin Rookie Test is scheduled after the Berlin double-header on Monday, July 14. There will be two three-hour sessions during the test. Most of the teams have already nominated two names for the same, some of whom had also participated in last year's rookie test. For the rookie test, the Formula E teams can nominate rookies who have some experience with the Formula E machinery before they take part in the test. The drivers who have never taken part in a Formula E race and were not on the entry list in the previous season can participate in the test. Rookie drivers must hold either a full E-Licence or a Free Practice Only E-Licence in order to qualify for the nomination. They also undergo a training session on electrical safety to understand the functioning of the Formula E cars and make themselves aware of the technical and sporting regulations for the championship. They can only participate in up to two official test days. Nominations for the Berlin Rookie Test Andretti Formula E team has nominated their Reserve and Development driver Jak Crawford along with Fred Vesti. Crawford had participated in the rookie test last year as well and had finished second. Johnathan Hoggard and Zak O'Sullivan will drive for Envision Racing. Ayhancan Güven and Elia Weiss will drive for TAG Heuer Porsche. DS Penske has nominated Nikita Bedrin for the test, while Cupra Kiro has nominated Bianca Bustamante. NEOM McLaren has nominatedAlex Dunne and Ella Lloyd for the rookie test. The Round 13 race is scheduled on Saturday, July 12, while the Round 14 race is on Sunday, July 13. Here's why Sergio Sette Camara will replace Norman Nato as Nissan driver at Berlin E-Prix

Nissan reserve driver Sergio Sette Camara will be stepping into his shoes to drive the Nissan Formula E car at the Berlin race, scheduled for July 12 and 13. Nissan has informed that Nato will be skipping the Berlin race in order to participate in the World Endurance Championship. Sergio Sette Camara to drive for Nissan in Berlin The news about the 27-year-old Brazilian driver Sergio Sette Camara driving for Nissan was shared on Formula E's Instagram page with the caption: 'Norman Nato will miss the Berlin E-Prix with @nismo's reserve driver @sergiosettecamara replacing the Frenchman for the race.' The other Nissan driver, Oliver Rowland, liked the post on Instagram. A fan commented, 'The irony of a Brazilian replacing Nato because he'll race in Brazil.' Sharing the reason behind Nato's absence, an update was shared on Nissan's Instagram page. Pictures of Sette were posted with the caption: '@SergioSetteCamara will race with us for the first time at the upcoming #BerlinEPrix! Our Reserve and Development driver steps in for @Norman_Nato due to his World Endurance Championship commitments.' Nato will be taking part in the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo race in Brazil in July which will clash with the Berlin E-Prix next month. Camara responded to Nissan's post, saying, 'Looking forward to it!' Camara is currently taking part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans race. He will be driving for Nielsen Racing in the French event. Nato is also participating in the race on his home soil and will be driving for Jota Sport. He recently unveiled his new helmet for the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, which is scheduled to take place on June 14–15. In Formula E, Camara has previously raced for Dragon/Penske and the ERT Formula E Team. He was also part of the Red Bull Junior Team. In 2018, he signed with the McLaren Driver Development Programme to participate in the 2019 season as a development driver. He is yet to secure a podium and has slipped to 19th position in the 2025 Formula E Driver Standings with 19 points. Before the Berlin E-Prix, Nato will head to Jakarta to take part in the Jakarta E-Prix as a Nissan Formula E driver.

Jakarta to London via Berlin: All you need to know about the remaining 2025 Formula E calendar

Eleven rounds have already been completed this season, and Nissan's Oliver Rowland is a clear leader in the Formula E Driver Standings, well ahead of the competition. There are five more races to be held, as three Grands Prix are lined up for this month and the next. Here's all about the action that will unfold over these two months before the current season comes to an end in July. Jakarta E-Prix The Jakarta E-Prix is a two-day event from June 20 to June 21. The Round 12 race will be held at the Jakarta International Circuit in Indonesia. The venue was missing from the calendar last year. Maserati MSG Racing driver Maximilian Gunther won pole position in both races of the Jakarta double header in 2023, but he won only one of the races and took third place on the podium in the other. The other race was won by Pascal Wehrlein of TAG Heuer Porsche. Berlin E-Prix Berlin is the only venue to have been a permanent fixture on the Formula E calendar since its inception. The 11th edition of the Berlin E-Prix will be a double header from July 11 to July 13. The Round 13 and Round 14 races will be held on July 12 and July 13, respectively. Both races will take place at the Tempelhof Airport Street Circuit. TAG Heuer Porsche driver Antonio Felix da Costa has been the most successful Formula E driver in Berlin, with three wins, including one last year. Nick Cassidy of Jaguar TCS Racing has also won twice and claimed one of the two races last year. London E-Prix The London double header will be the closing event of the 11th season. It will be held at the ExCeL London circuit from July 25 to July 27. All eyes will be on the Round 15 and Round 16 races, as the Formula E world champion will be crowned at this double header based on the Formula E Driver Standings for this year. It was a double header last year as well, with Nissan's Oliver Rowland winning one of the races. Pascal Wehrlein won the other and secured a podium spot in the race he didn't win.
