Officials identify suspect in Kentucky shootings at church and airport
The gunman officials say killed two women and wounded a state trooper in Kentucky on Sunday has been identified as 47-year-old Guy House, according to the Lexington Police Department. Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said House shot a Kentucky State Police trooper on a terminal road at Blue Grass Airport at 11:36 a.m. The trooper pulled him over after receiving a license plate reader alert in the area. The trooper is receiving treatment, Weathers said. House then allegedly fled the area, and law enforcement caught up with him at Richmond Road Baptist Church about 16 miles away. There, House allegedly also opened fire and hit four people, Weathers said. Beverly Gumm, 72, and her daughter, Christina Combs, 32, were pronounced dead on the scene, according to Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn. Gumm was married to the church's pastor, public records indicate. Officers fatally shot House at the church, Weathers confirmed. Weathers said that preliminary information indicates House "may have had a connection to the individuals at the church." A motivation for the shootings remains unclear. Suspect in Kentucky church shooting had a domestic violence hearing the next day
The man accused of a shooting rampage Sunday at a rural Kentucky church after wounding a state trooper had been expected in court Monday for a domestic violence hearing, a local official said. Police say Guy House, 47, shot the trooper during a traffic stop near Lexington's airport, fled in a carjacked vehicle then opened fire at Richmond Road Baptist Church, killing two women and wounding two men before officers fatally shot him. House went to the church looking for the mother of his children but his domestic violence hearing did not involve her, the Lexington Heald-Leader reported, citing a sister of the woman, Rachael Barnes. Matt Ball, a deputy clerk for family court in Fayette County, confirmed to The Associated Press that House had been scheduled for the domestic violence hearing on Monday. Police say Beverly Gumm, 72, and Christina Combs, 34, were killed in the shooting. One of the wounded men was being treated for critical injuries and the other was in stable condition, police said. The trooper was in stable condition, police said. 'Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a connection to the individuals at the church,' Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said at a news conference Sunday. The shootings remain under investigation, Weathers said. The trooper stopped House after receiving a 'license plate reader alert,' police said. A woman who witnessed that shooting said it initially appeared to be a routine traffic stop, with the trooper talking to the suspect through an open window. 'And as we were driving by, I heard, 'pop, pop' and I knew it was gunshots,' Larissa McLaughlin told WLEX-TV in Lexington. Police tracked the carjacked vehicle to the Baptist church about 16 miles (26 kilometers) from where the trooper was shot, police said. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said the church is home to a small, tight-knit congregation. In a post on social media, Gov. Andy Beshear said, 'Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let's give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police.' State Attorney General Russell Coleman said detectives with his office were ready to support local and state agencies. 'Today, violence invaded the Lord's House,' Coleman said in a statement. 'The attack on law enforcement and people of faith in Lexington shocked the entire Commonwealth.'

A man shot a police officer outside Kentucky's Blue Grass Airport before driving 15 miles to a local church where he shot four others Two women, mother Beverly Gumm and daughter Christina Combs, were killed in the shooting The sister and daughter of the victims said the gunman was looking for her other sister and muttered that "someone is gonna have to die then" after being told she wasn't thereThe gunman who opened fire outside Kentucky's Blue Grass Airport before fleeing to a local church and shooting four people there has been identified, according to a new local report. The Lexington Herald-Leader, WLKY and Lex 18 report that the shooter has been identified by authorities as Guy House. The outlets reported that two people were killed in the shootings: mother and daughter Christina Combs, 34, and Beverly Gumm, 72. The victims were connected to the shooter — Combs is the sister of the mother of House's children, and Gumm is their mother. Two other men were also shot and injured, according to NBC News and CNN. The outlet reported that the shooting began near the Blue Grass Airport in Lexington, Ky., shortly after 11:30 a.m. local time. House's license plate activated an alert and an officer pulled him over outside the airport, leading to the gunman shooting and injuring the officer. House then 'fled' the scene, police told NBC, and drove roughly 15 miles across town to the Richmond Road Baptist Church, where investigators said they believed the shooter had a direct relationship with others in attendance. The Herald-Leader reported that House entered the church and demanded to see the mother of his three children. But he was told by one of Gumm's other daughters, Star Rutherford, that she wasn't there. Rutherford told the Herald-Leader that House then said: 'Well, someone is gonna have to die then.' House then shot Gumm, 72, who tried to duck out of the way of the shots, Rutherford told the newspaper. She said House then went outside the church and shot and killed Combs, according to the outlet. Of the men who were shot but survived, one is in critical condition and the other was in stable. The officer initially shot outside the Blue Grass Airport is also in stable condition, according to the outlets.
