IND vs ENG: 'Baz is incredible' - Former all-rounder calls Brendon McCullum best England coach

BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND - JUNE 30: England coach Brendon McCullum speaks to the team alongside Ben Duckett and captain Ben Stokes during a net session at Edgbaston on June 30, 2025 in Birmingham, England. (Photo by) Former England cricket captain Andrew Flintoff has dismissed speculation about succeeding Brendon McCullum as England head coach, despite his recent success with the England Lions and Northern Superchargers. Speaking in London on July 1, 2025, Flintoff expressed his contentment with his current role and praised McCullum's leadership of the national team. Flintoff, 47, has made a successful return to cricket coaching following a serious car accident during the filming of BBC's Top Gear program, which left him with severe facial and rib injuries. His coaching career has included working with the England Lions and leading the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred competition, where he improved the team's performance after they finished last in the previous season. "It's not something I'm looking at, Baz McCullum is incredible –- the best England coach. He's unbelievable and the culture he's created is incredible. It's similar to what Gareth Southgate did with the football lads; they are not just good players but great lads as well," Flintoff said on the Stick to Cricket podcast. With Baz, we've got a great relationship and the utmost respect," Flintoff stated. His coaching journey began when he joined Matthew Mott 's white-ball coaching team in September 2023, though he did not attend that year's World Cup in India. Flintoff was part of England's coaching staff during the T20 World Cup, which ended with a semi-final exit and Mott's subsequent dismissal. His recent achievements include leading the Lions on their Australian tour and overseeing two unofficial Test matches against India A. "Honestly, at the moment, I feel as though I'm in the perfect place working with the Lions. I don't see this as a stepping stone to anything else, I'm invested in this and get a chance to work with these lads," Flintoff explained. He also expressed satisfaction with his role at the Northern Superchargers, stating, "I'm not looking at the franchise world or anything else, although I do the Northern Superchargers which came around last year and I enjoy working with Harry Brook on that. I think 'I've got a job to do here' and it's not like 'what's next?'" The speculation about Flintoff's potential elevation to England head coach arose as McCullum's current contract, covering all three formats, extends through the 2027 World Cup. 'He was treated badly, based on speculation' - Anish Giri defends Hans Niemann

Hans Niemann (right) and Anish Giri (X | @HansMokeNiemann) Anish Giri has defended Hans Niemann, who is facing cheating allegations from top chess players. The Dutch GM has recently been seen interacting with American GM Hans Niemann on social media. Talking to Take Take Take, Giri said: 'It triggered me. The story with Hans, it really triggered me. Because I was all okay with what was happening. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "But I wanted to see proof that he was cheating. I was waiting for it. But it just wouldn't come. "I was waiting for the proof. But at some point, I realized, okay, there is no proof. They don't have proof. "And he was treated like he was guilty. And nobody convinced me that he was guilty at all. I found the way he was treated extremely unjust. "Especially compared to other people. And with Hans, suddenly there was this massive thing, which I found unjust as long as it's not proven. It sort of triggered me as well, in some sense. I felt that, you know, why should I treat him badly based on speculation? And if he hadn't been cheating, what has happened to him is very unjust,' he said. Giri also opened up about the relationships among the top chess players. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo 'First of all, these relationships are extremely complicated. A combination of rivalry and friendship and mutual respect and hatred all at the same time. "I wouldn't call it hatred in a human sense. "You should also realize that when we speak of this kind of rivalry, they would never wish each other bad health. Or, God forbid, that something bad would happen in their life or in their family. Or that their house would get flooded. They don't want that. But they want them to lose. "They want them to lose badly. And again and again. And I wanted him to lose. But now that he lost, I want him to get back up, so I can punch him again, you know?' "Would you say anyone inside the Top 10 right now is your friend?" Although Tanvi missed out on the title, the unseeded youngster made history, becoming the youngest from the country to reach a BWF World Tour Final. 'I've worked on my endurance and that's paid off. Wimbledon 2025: Aryna Sabalenka breezes past Canadian model and delivery agent Carson Branstine; enters second round

London: Carson Branstine owned the stage even if it was only in bits and bobs — a few games, a string of points scattered across the 74-minute opening-round clash — with the sun beating down on Wimbledon's Court No.1. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Aryna Sabalenka, the top-seed, claimed an emphatic 6-1, 7-5 win, but in an affair that was all about the Canadian's spirit the score line didn't really count. Branstine's story is unlike any other in tennis, ask the spectators, who gave her a standing ovation. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Branstine, ranked 194, impressed in the qualifying here, where she beat the top-seed Lois Boisson. That's when she started narrating her story. In a world where people are quick to complain about the lack of support and funds from federations and sponsors, the Canadian chose to veer from the straight and narrow to write her own script. The 24-year-old represented the United States before switching to Canada, the birth country of her mother, in 2017. That year, she reached a career-high junior ranking of No.4, after winning the Australian and French Open doubles titles with good friend Bianca Andreescu. After battling injuries for several years, she played collegiate tennis in the United States. Branstine has taught tennis, worked as an Uber Eats delivery agent, besides modelled to help fund her tennis career. 'The modelling industry is not very consistent,' she says. 'When I'm travelling for tennis, I may miss 10-20 jobs.' 'You have to go to castings, and there's the fittings, and it takes a little bit of time sometimes,' she said of the industry. 'A lot of the jobs I've done have been last minute. I'm like, okay, great, I can, squeeze this in somehow. But there's much more to my story than just the modelling.' Branstine said just because she models and lives in Orange, California, people think she has everything. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Canadian, who hails from a working class background, with her parents – father Bruce and mother Carol Freeman – continuing to work well into their 60s. 'The last thing you want to do after they put you through college, is to go back to your parents and ask them for more,' she said, underlining that all the jobs she did on the side was to fund her tennis. In February, just before she left for Cancun in Mexico to play a WTA125, she realised she had just $26 in her account and was in tears. 'During that same time, I was doing Uber Eats, deliveries. I put in my bio, I'm a broke athlete. Please help. And so people gave me extra tips. The American tipping culture is pretty good still,' she said. 'My last Uber Eats delivery was literally the same day I took a flight to Cancun, I landed at 9 am and played my first match at 4pm. That was kind of the kick start to my being here right now. 'When I tell people this, they laugh at me. You can look in my reviews I've delivered with care.' Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 24th seed, retired against French qualifier Valentin Royer when trailing 3-6, 2-6.

IND vs ENG Test: 'They cannot afford to go 2-0 down' - England fast bowler advises India to play Jasprit Bumrah at Edgbaston

India captain Shubman Gill, left and Jasprit Bumrah speak, during a nets session at Edgbaston, in Birmingham, England, Monday June 30, 2025. AP/PTI(AP06_30_2025_000115A) England fast bowler Mark Wood , who is out of the five-match series against India due to injury, has warned Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir ahead of the Edgbaston Test, starting on Wednesday. "They cannot afford to go 2-0 down. So you want your best bowler," Wood said on the Sky Sports podcast. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! "There's no way he's saying, 'I'm not playing at Lord's.' I don't think so. I think he'll want to play both games," predicted Wood. "Even if, let's just say, India win the next one and it's 1-1, I still think they'll want him to make the difference, to get them ahead. I think every overseas bowler wants to get on that board, and he'll be the same," he added. Former England captain Michael Atherton echoed Wood's view that Bumrah would love to play the third Test at Lord's, but at the same time said India must play left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav . "They have got a decision to make over Bumrah, first of all, because every overseas player wants to play in a Lord's Test," said Atherton. Bumrah & Gambhir Locked In! What's Cooking at Edgbaston? "The Lord's Test is three days after Edgbaston. "In cricketing terms, he should certainly play at Edgbaston, and I'd think very carefully about Old Trafford, because that's the kind of ground where pace and reverse swing are really important. But as you say, every cricketer wants to play at Lord's and get on that honours board. "I do think they should play Kuldeep Yadav. I think had they had Kuldeep in their team, they would have won that game at Edgbaston." Game On Season 1 continues with Mirabai Chanu's inspiring story. Watch Episode 2 here.
