Lonato World Cup opens with skeet action
The skeet shooters will be in action over the next three days in the Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy. Bhavtegh Singh Gill, Mairaj Ahmad Khan and Anantjeet Singh Naruka will spearhead the Indian challenge in the men's section, which will feature 181 shooters from 60 countries. World record holder Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Rajveer Singh Rathore will compete in the RPO section. Maheshwari Chauhan, Raiza Dhillon and Ganemat Sekhon will form the women's team, and Kajal Singh Baghel will shoot in the RPO section. The women's field will have 80 shooters from 34 countries. It will be 50 birds each on the first two days of competition, and the third day will feature the last round of 25 birds, followed by the final for the top six. The trap competition will be held on July 11 and 12, with around 290 shooters in the men's and women's events. The first day will feature three rounds, and the next day, two rounds plus the final for the top six. The mixed trap will be held on July 13.

Bhavtegh and Maheshwari take lead
World University skeet champion Bhavtegh Singh Gill shot 73 out of 75 to take the lead ahead of World Cup gold medallist Mairaj Ahmad Khan (72) and World record holder Angad Vir Singh Bajwa (71) in the second Shotgun National selection trials at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Thursday. Bhavtegh shot 24, 24 and 25 in the three rounds. Two more rounds will be shot on Friday, and the top six will compete in the final. Rituraj Bundela and Smit Singh were also on 71, while Asian Games silver medallist Anantjeet Singh Naruka had shot 70, following rounds of 23, 25 and 22. In women's skeet, Maheshwari Chauhan led with 69, one point ahead of World Cup medallist Ganemat Sekhon. Parinaaz Dhaliwal (67) and Darshna Rathore (66) were close on heel behind the leaders.
