Dharwad ZP to open 44 Koosina Mane centres
Dharwad: Dharwad zilla panchayat will set up 44 Koosina Manes (childcare centres) in gram panchayats in the district. A total of 102 Koosina Manes have been already started in the district as per a target set up the state government. The zilla panchayat has gone a step further by planning to build an additional 44 centres, ZP CEO Bhuvanesh Patil said. Women labourers working under the MGNREGA scheme in rural areas often struggle to care for their children while at work. The government, recognising this issue, has established Koosina Mane centres in every gram panchayat. Koosina Manes support the care and nourishment of infants aged between six months and three years belonging to rural labourers and daily-wage workers. Nutritional food At the district level, a nutrition committee has been formed to monitor children's growth and provide a nutrient-rich diet. The food menu has been designed in coordination with the health department and the women and child development department to ensure physical and developmental needs are met. Appointment of caretakers To look after the children enrolled in these centres, caretakers will be appointed. The government has instructed gram panchayats to identify eight women holding active MGNREGA job cards, out of whom two will be selected as caretakers on a rotational basis for each centre. These caretakers will be paid wages under the MGNREGA scheme for 100 days. Women who have passed the 10th grade are eligible for this position, and appropriate training has been provided to them by the taluk panchayat, Bhuvanesh said.

In addition, extensive awareness programmes on nutritional food were also being held. Inaugurating the Acute Diarrhoea Elimination Campaign at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Dharwad on June 25, the Deputy Commissioner said that the campaign, which was launched in the district on June 16, would go on till July 31. The campaign had been launched as acute diarrhoea could seriously affect newborns and children up to the age of six, she said. Mentioning that people, particularly mothers, had extended cooperation in conducting the campaign, she said that mothers were being called to the anganwadis to sensitise them about acute diarrhoea, the importance of consuming nutritional foods by women, particularly pregnant women, and the facilities being offered to children, pregnant women and mothers, and related issues. She emphasised the need for breastfeeding for at least six months after birth. 'There is no alternative to breast milk. Beauty consciousness or modern life style should not become a hindrance to it,' she said. The Deputy Commissioner said that the staff of Women and Child Development Department had been told to conduct a fresh survey of children. They had been directed to conduct a special survey to identify children that have stopped coming to anganwadis and re-enrol them so as to offer government benefits and provide nutritious food, she said. Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Bhuvanesh Patil said that it was crucial that the nutritional food supplied from the government reached the beneficiary children on a regular basis. He highlighted importance of breast feeding and elaborated on how it would help in the overall growth of the child. He directed anganwadi workers to ensure that the kits meant for pregnant women are delivered to them in a timely manner. He advised them to alert the higher authorities in case of marriages of minors, and prevent them. Various nutritional foods under 'Poshan campaign' meant for pregnant women, mothers and children suffering from malnutrition were displayed at the event that saw the attendance of senior officials and municipal councillors.

The Dharwad district administration in Karnataka has launched the 'Severe Diarrhoea Elimination Campaign – 2025', in order to prevent life-threatening dehydration caused by diarrhoea in children below the age of five years. The campaign will run untill July 31, 2025, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Divya Prabhu G.R.J. said during its launch at the District Hospital in Dharwad. The campaign will be held in all health centres, sub-centres, and hospitals of the district. The campaign aims to raise awareness and prevent diarrhoea among these children. He said that this can be achieved through maintaining cleanliness, washing hands properly, and ensuring hygiene during food preparation. Passion, hard work, skills needed to be successful: Bhuvanesh Patil
'Passion, hard work, discipline, confidence and requisite skills will help in you achieving excellence in your chosen field,' Chief Executive Officer of Dharwad Zilla Panchayat Bhuvanesh Patil has said. He was inaugurating The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2025 at Bio Technology Hall of KLE Technology University (BVB Campus) in Hubballi on Saturday. The IAS officer, who cracked the civil services exam on his fourth attempt, narrated his own example of how failures helped him succeed. 'You need to identify your passion and also check whether you have the requisite skills,' he said. 'It is not always necessary to listen to what others say about choosing a career because none knows you better than yourself. You know your strength and weaknesses better than anyone else. So choose your career based on your passion and skills', he said. Mr. Patil said that although students from moffusil centres had the requisite skills and potential, they lacked the confidence of students brought up in urban areas. 'Developing confidence will help you face any challenge. Confidence comes from working day in and day out. Continuous practice will help you build it,' he said. He pointed out that simply working hard would not yield results and a systematic plan and discipline were crucial to reaching goals. Mr. Patil told the students to remember that achieving success in an examination or in a chosen field did not mean one's struggle would end as one would have to struggle throughout life. 'In my opinion being successful means having the ability to face any challenge,' he said. He briefed the students on preparing for civil services or other competitive examinations. Having a backup plan was also necessary, he said. Career options Career coach and trainer Syed Sadat Pasha from CIGMA Foundation threw light on various career options available to the students after their II PUC. Apart from engineering and medical sciences, there were several other career options available to the students, he said. Rajesh Hongal, lecturer, Computer Science and Engineering, and KEA representative, briefed the students about the online counselling process and what they should bear in mind while attending the counselling to choose courses. In the interactive session, Dean cum Director of Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute Dr. S.F. Kammar clarified the doubts of students and parents on the medical sciences and emphasised why one should choose the profession, considered as noble profession. Answering queries on engineering, researcher, trainer and Director of Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research of KLE Technological University Prof. Satyadhyan Chickerur shed light on the changing technological scenario due to the advent of artificial intelligence. Highlighting the need to choose a course based on one's interest, he also told students to keep track of changing trends and advancements in technology while opting for engineering courses. Several students and their parents raised questions on various career options and the scope for various courses and got their doubts cleared during the interactive session.
