What Makes Us Intelligent? Lessons from Big Bang Theory to Bhagwad Gita
In the sitcom Big Bang Theory, protagonist Sheldon Cooper has a high Intelligence Quotient (IQ). Still, he struggles to understand sarcasm and fails to 'read the room' when confronted with subtle emotions. Sheldon's twin sister, Missy, does not have a prodigious IQ, but she is more perceptive than her child prodigy brother in sensing emotional cues, a sign of higher Emotional Quotient (EQ). American developmental psychologist Howard Gardner has identified eight types of intelligences, including linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinaesthetic, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and naturalistic. Naturalistic intelligence refers to our innate ability to interact with our environment, identifying, classifying and labelling the natural world around us. However, natural world exists at myriad levels, some of which can be explained by modern science, and others are still being studied. Greek philosopher Plato's 'theory of forms' refers to the physical world as merely a shadow, an imitation of things, while their perfect, eternal forms dwell in higher realms. Plato regarded intuition and reason as the highest forms of intelligence, as they enabled contemplation on perfect Forms. Indic schools of thought hold that a human being is made of five sheaths, panch koshas: annamaya, gross body, pranamaya, energy body, manomaya, mental body, vijnanamaya, intellectual body, and anandamaya or bliss body. According to Indic spirituality, the ultimate aim of human existence is to attain sat-chit-anand, truth-consciousness-bliss. Human intelligence, too, is like a mirror reflecting nature's intelligence and super intelligence underlined by consciousness that is both within and without. It is visible in beautiful patterns unfurling on their own accord in nebulae, gazillions of light years away or in the tiniest invisible-to-the-naked-eye atom, nay quark, which scientists constantly try to observe through experiments. Then there is Artificial Intelligence that mimics human capabilities, and Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), which, in theory, would possess capacity for abstraction, an understanding of human emotions, and ability to engage in self-directed learning. One look at the night sky or our garden is enough to know that nature's intelligence is at work, guiding life and other phenomena in the multiverse and beyond. And nature's work speaks for itself. So many processes run smoothly at the same time. Natural selection ensures that various species develop attributes for survival. Cells in our body die and are replaced by new ones. Mitochondria are not coded software but programmed to initiate apoptosis (programmed cell death). This consciousness reflects in all of creation, including human intelligence. Bhagwad Gita identifies 20 types of intelligence, the highest among them being Atma-Vishyak Buddhi, intelligence born of placidity of mind brought about by meditation, that is, when individual consciousness becomes aware of its true nature, the Self. The second is Vishudha Buddhi, pure intelligence, followed by Nishchayatmak Buddhi, a determinate intelligence concentrated on the Self. Buddhi Yog/Buddhi Sanyog is an undistracted intelligence resting steady in bliss because of one's samskaras in a previous birth. The fifth is Asakti-rahit Buddhi, detached intelligence, unaffected by victory or defeat. The sixth is Sambuddhi, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. The seventh is Sthirabuddhi, a stable mind indicative of a God-realised soul; eighth is Sukshm Buddhi, subtle reasoning purified by meditation on Supreme Consciousness. It is followed by Dhairya yukt Buddhi, a tranquil mind, fixed on the Divine. Shuddha Buddhi, sinless mind, Sattvic Buddhi, intelligence that correctly determines paths of activity and renunciation – what ought to be done and what should not be done, what is bondage and what is liberation, and Buddhiman, a wiseman, who practices self-control, which allows him to attain higher intelligence. Besides these higher intelligences, Gita deals with lower intelligence, too. These are: Swarthi Buddhi, intelligence characterised by greed, restlessness, craving; Bhedon-wali buddhi, intelligence of ignorant men moved by desires; Rajasi Buddhi, intelligence that is unable to perceive what is dharm and adharm, what should be done and what should not be done; Mamatva Buddhi, performing of actions only in self-interest; Tamasi Buddhi, total ignorance; Ashuddha Buddhi, impure mind, considering itself the doer. Manda Buddhi, intelligence attached to bodily consciousness; Buddhiheen, an ignorant individual, who regards the Supreme Spirit to have assumed a finite form through birth as an ordinary human being. Hollywood star looks unrecognisable as she films new mystery series Vanish with Sam Claflin in Paris
This Hollywood star looked completely unrecognisable on Monday as she filmed Prime Video's new mystery series Vanish with Sam Claflin in Paris. Kaley Cuoco, 39, who rose to fame on The Big Bang Theory, wore an oversized trench coat with sandals for the scenes. Her co-star, Sam, 38, was much more recognisable in the on-set shots and was smartly dressed in a white shirt, blue trousers, and brown shoes. The Amazon Prime mystery series is centered around a romantic getaway that goes wrong. Kaley could be seen walking a chihuahua on a pink lead in the pictures, although it is not known if the dog will feature in the four-part series. Its synopsis reads: 'When a couple's trip to Paris takes a dark turn with the sudden disappearance of her boyfriend Tom [Claflin] aboard a train to the south of France, Alice [Cuoco] is plunged into a web of intrigue and danger, uncovering shocking secrets about the man she thought she knew. ' Amazon revealed that the series was being filmed between Paris and Marseille last month and have said viewers can expect to enjoy it in 2026. The Head of Content Acquisitions at Prime Video UK, Tushar Jindal, said: 'With Kaley and Sam leading an incredible cast, this gripping thriller will keep viewers guessing at every turn. 'We're delighted to bring to Prime Video in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Canada and we can't wait for audiences to be swept up in the mystery.' Snaps of Kaley's striking look in the upcoming series follow an interesting start to 2025 for the actress. Her younger sister Briana, 36, also an actress, tied the knot with singer Brian Logan Dales, 39, on New Year's Eve and their wedding was officiated by none other than Kaley herself. The lavish ceremony took place at the Cathedral of St. Vibiana near downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday - with loved ones in attendance to support the newlyweds. Kaley was accompanied by fiancé Tom Pelphrey. Cuoco's nearly two-year-old daughter Matilda - whom she shares with Pelphrey - was also part of the wedding party as the flower girl. In a sweet video uploaded to her Instagram stories, Kaley and Tom could be seen holding hands with the little one as they guided her down the aisle which was bordered by a number of lit candles. In the caption of the post, Kaley penned to her 7.9 million followers, 'The best NYE to date.' 'I got to marry my sis and her love. blend two amazing families together surrounded by our friends, a gorgeous environment, a kiss at midnight with the love of my life, and a perfect flower girl. what a night to remember!' When it came to the reception, guests had the chance to watch a fireworks display on the ceiling of the venue on New Year's Eve once the clock hit midnight.

Boston Blue: Everything We Know So Far About the Blue Bloods Offshoot
At least one Reagan family member's story will continue to be told when Boston Blue debuts on CBS. Ordered to series on Feb. 18 — two months after Blue Bloods ended its well-watched, 14-season run — Boston Blue finds franchise vet Donnie Wahlberg reprising his role as veteran police detective Danny Reagan. Boston Blue since Day 1 has been described as a 'universe expansion of the long-running top drama Blue Bloods,' in part because its premise was born of an entirely unrelated project. As Deadline reported, the only Donnie Wahlberg-led Blue Bloods offshoot that had been pitched (but got passed on) would have transplanted Danny Reagan to Texas. Boston Blue showrunners Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, meanwhile, had independently developed a series that would follow a family of cops in Boston whose eldest daughter is partnered with a new transfer from LAPD. NYPD vet Danny is now that transfer. In Boston Blue, Donnie Wahlberg's Danny Reagan takes a position with the Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with detective Lena Silvers, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. Thus far, Donnie Wahlberg is the only Blue Bloods vet confirmed to appear on the spinoff universe expansion — though there surely will be mentions of the Reagan fam and friends back in New York, if not some flesh-and-blood cameos… eventually. 'Danny's story will continue the Reagan family's. You can't have Danny without Reagans,' Wahlberg said at a May press event. 'No Blue Bloods fans will be disappointed,' Wahlberg avowed, reiterating: 'We are really working on this universe in a way that I think the Blue Bloods viewers are going to be very happy.' First and foremost, Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, The Walking Dead) will star alongside Donnie Wahlberg as Detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family. Additionally, Ernie Hudson (NBC's Quantum Leap reboot) has been cast as Lena's grandfather, Reverend Peters, a renowned pastor of a historic Baptist church in Boston; Psych vet Maggie Lawson will play Boston PD Superintendent Sarah Silver, Lena's 'strong-willed' and 'decisive' stepsister; Gloria Reuben (ER) will play Mae Silver, family matriarch and Boston's District Attorney; and Marcus Scribner (black-ish) will play Jonah, Lena and Sarah's rookie cop brother. Fact is, precious few scripted TV series have ever made camp in Boston, with Robert Urich's mid-1980s crime drama, Spenser: For Hire, being one of the exceptions. ABC' A Million Little Things (see photo above) was famously set in Boston (however devoid as it was of any accents) but filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia. Even Blue Bloods patriarch Tom Selleck's Massachusetts-based Jesse Stone TV movies were filmed in Nova Scotia. Boston Blue will do some filming in Boston, but production will be based out of Toronto, Ontario (that's in Canada). Filming begins July 10. When CBS unveiled its fall schedule, there Boston Blue was, confirmed for a fall debut and calling Blue Bloods' old Fridays-at-10/9c time slot home. There, Boston Blue will lead out of Sheriff Country and that freshman spinoff's sire, Fire Country. CBS typically sets fall premieres dates by mid-July, and TVLine will of course keep you posted on when, exactly, Boston Blue will debut.
