Fox Sports Closing In On Massive Deal With Barstool Sports

Fox Sports Closing In On Massive Deal With Barstool Sports originally appeared on The Spun. Fox Sports is making a bunch of changes to its programming ahead of football season. It was reported this week that Fox Sports is canceling a few daytime shows, including "The Facility" and "Speak." That puts popular analysts such as Emmanuel Acho, Keyshawn Johnson and LeSean McCoy in limbo. Joy Taylor, meanwhile, is not expected to have her contract renewed. That's not the only major report involving Fox Sports to come out this week. According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, Fox Sports is working on a deal that'll change its coverage for "Big Noon." If this deal gets finalized, Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports would make appearances on the popular college football show. "The network is nearing an expansive deal with Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy that would include him appearing on its college football pregame show. The deal would also involve Barstool content being featured on FS1, sources told Front Office Sports," Glasspiegel wrote. "The deal has not been finalized, and a Fox Sports spokesperson declined to comment." Portnoy is one of the most polarizing personalities in sports, so this would be quite the gamble for Fox Sports. "Big Noon" has been around since 2019. The show stars former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, former USC quarterback Matt Leinart, former Alabama running back Mark Ingram, and former Notre Dame signal-caller Brady Quinn. The crew also includes Rob Stone and Chris "The Bear" Fallica. Adding Portnoy would most likely help "Big Noon" improve its ratings in the 18-to-34 demographic. Would you be in favor of Portnoy joining "Big Noon" this fall?Fox Sports Closing In On Massive Deal With Barstool Sports first appeared on The Spun on Jul 16, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 16, 2025, where it first appeared.

"Gotta create some type of balance": Notre Dame boss Marcus Freeman shares solution to growing challenges for CFB coaches

Image Source: Getty Marcus Freeman, head football coach at Notre Dame, is raising a red flag on the increasing burden CFB is putting on its coaches. In a recent visit with The Joel Klatt Show, Freeman touched on what he perceives as a growing coaching crisis, a product of an unforgiving calendar made more complicated by NIL and a year-round transfer portal grind. The college football world turns on a dime these days, and Freeman is advocating for changes that would promote balance and continuity, especially at the assistant coaching level, where many under the pressure cooker get burned. "Gotta create some type of balance," he said. Expanding recruiting dead periods to ease burnout for college football coaches Marcus Freeman is a big proponent of increasing recruiting 'dead periods'—specific dates on the calendar when coaches cannot make contact with high school prospects whatsoever. Now we have only a few short windows spread throughout the calendar with minimal to no real downtime for coaches. NCAA records show that recruiters can spend that time in recruiting activities for over 200 days a year. It was on top of game prep, player development, and now NIL and transfer portal duties. It means, especially for assistant coaches, working around the clock, sacrificing personal and family time simply to stay in the game. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch vàng CFDs với mức chênh lệch giá thấp nhất IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Marcus Freeman on Notre Dame's CFP run, staying Independent, USC Rivalry | Big Noon Conversations Recent trends highlight the toll this gruelling regimen takes. Some of the biggest names on the sidelines have turned their backs on college football altogether over the last two classes due to burnout and the necessity for a better work/life balance. Freeman mentions that if there are not enough breaks, the sport loses more and more national championship-quality coaching. Reducing transfer portal windows to improve roster management in college football Marcus Freeman similarly offers a sweeping change to NCAA transfer portal regulations, cutting the two transfer windows down to one that would run only in the spring. Currently, coaches are tasked with balancing a 30-day winter window and a 15-day spring window that can completely change their rosters. Freeman says the overlap in postseason responsibilities and transfer portal craziness in the winter brings avoidable pressure. Pointing to both the logistical and emotional strain that multiple windows do to players and staff, he said, 'If you forced me to take one or the other, I would take the spring.' This would then allow coaches to plan development strategies and recruiting needs much more effectively. Freeman thinks this would also enhance the athlete experience because it would lead to less knee-jerk decision making. As player movement reaches unprecedented levels, this sort of calendar clarity might help restore a little order—and a bit of sanity—to college football.

Ohio State Athletic Director Ross Bjork leading crusade for more football night games

Ohio State Athletic Director Ross Bjork leading crusade for more football night games If you are an Ohio State football fan, you've endured more than your fair share of Buckeye noon games thanks to FOX's bet on placing its marquee game of the weekend in the early viewing window. It's been known as the Big Noon Game and falls just after the network's answer to ESPN College GameDay, a similar show with former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, Big Noon Kickoff. To say that OSU fans are fed up with a lack of night games for the biggest of games would be an understatement. It's no secret that Ohio State games have carried the day for the Big Noon window, and many fans are clamoring for Athletic Director Ross Bjork and others to pull their weight to change what has become the status quo. The realization that the Ohio State vs. Texas game will also be highlighted at Noon seemed to make those calls even louder. But never fear, Bjork seems to be in your corner Buckeye fans. When meeting with the media last week, the new AD spoke to the so-called issue with game times, and it sure sounds like he'll be working to change OSU fans' viewing big games just after breakfast. "I think our program, our fans deserve some marquee night games. ... Really, at the end of the day, there's no flexibility in the contracts," Bjork told the media. "FOX bought the noon window. ... What we need is we need more flexibility. Can that happen anytime soon? I don't know. ... We understand why FOX went with Big Noon, we understand why we're picked all the time, but we're hoping (for) just, more flexibility." Same here, Ross. Flexibility in anything is good, especially when it comes to creating the type of environment a night game in the 'Shoe can present. How it's done, or how long we'll have to wait is the question. The current television contracts run through 2029, so it sure seems like we've got a few years before there's language that can be official. So, what we seem to be left with is people sitting down in a room or having a phone conversation to shift things a bit. We feel good about Bjork making a run at that, but ultimately, it's up to the executives at FOX to get on board with that sort of thing. Arch Manning Shows Different Side of Himself With Prank on Teammate

Arch Manning Shows Different Side of Himself With Prank on Teammate originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With college football stars having a larger platform than ever before, fans around the sport have a chance to get to know them on a personal level of sorts. Advertisement Whether it's via TikTok dances, podcasts or vlogs, there has never been an era of athlete that is as in the spotlight as the ones today. However, arguably the biggest name in all of college football may be the most mysterious player in the country. Texas quarterback Arch Manning is heading into his first season as the starter, but thanks to his lineage that also features Super Bowl champs Peyton and Eli Manning, fans have been looking out for him since his senior year at Isidore Newman School in New Orleans. Although he is a huge name, he isn't very active on social media, and anytime he has spoken to the media, has been very buttoned up. On Thursday, fans were able to see a new side of Manning thanks to a video shared to TikTok by wide receiver Parker Livingstone. Advertisement The two former blue-chip recruits were partaking in the TikTok trend that sees people call a friend and tell them that they are calling to say goodnight. After Livingstone called receiver Aaron Butler, Manning called safety Derek Williams. While Butler seemed to not be aware of the trend, Williams caught on right away. "Aye Bruh," Willaims said. "You over here with your little TikTok trend." Despite being the backup this past season, Manning started two games and also ended up being used as a wildcat quarterback at the end of the season. He ended the year with 939 yards passing and nine touchdowns through the air, and four on the ground. Advertisement His first start of 2025 will come at Ohio State in a game that will have ESPN's "College GameDay" in attendance, and air on Fox's "Big Noon." A Day in the Life of Chris 'The Bear' Fallica at the Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes has officially wrapped up. We all know Sovereignty took first place in the race, but what did the day look like for FOX Sports betting expert Chris 'The Bear' Fallica? Come and see for yourself! It was 9:03 a.m. in New York, meaning it was go-time. First things first, The Bear started his everyday routine by handicapping, getting scratches out and going through the big, multi-race wagers, so it was highlighted for him to keep an eye on throughout the day. Chris then wagered on a Pick 5, as it's the best way to "get the juices flowing" in the early morning. Well, whaddyaknow, a handful of races got canceled and postponed. That just meant he had to improvise and adjust; his Pick 5 would have to wait another day. It was time to head to the Saratoga Race Course. By 1:30 p.m., The Bear had arrived and was ready to get beautified. Three minutes later, his makeup was complete. Fallica was then ready to meet with the Bear Bets producers to discuss the wagers he would make on the show. But before he went on air, he needed to make a quick stop. What good handicapper doesn't have a fedora? That definitely couldn't be Chris. The fun began at 3:05 p.m. as he entered the Saratoga course and, with the help of fans, The Bear found himself the perfect hat. Selfie time! The Bear had many fans he had to attend to, and, of course, had to get in a handful of selfies as he made his way throughout the course. Drinking from the Big Red Spring is a must at the Saratoga Race Course, so obviously Fallica needed to try it. Around 3:30 p.m., it was officially time for the Bear Bets livestream, where fellow FOX Sports betting analysts Sammy P and Geoff Schwartz joined The Bear to film. Following the livestream at 4:07 p.m., Chris hopped in to join FOX Sports' Charissa Thompson and Jonathon Kinchen, helping break down how to bet on the horses. Chris put his money on Journalism. It was then time to make the final pick just before 7 p.m. alongside the analysts. Terry Bradshaw entered the broadcast a few minutes later to watch the race. The horses took off, and in 2 minutes, 0.69 seconds, Sovereignty finished in first place, ahead of Preakness Stakes winner Journalism by three lengths. "They love me even though Sovereignty won," Fallica said. "I have to be a winner. Any time you come out of the day with a hat, it's a successful day, right? Another year until we can do it all over again. Before we even know it, Big Noon college football will be back". Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
