Zonke to headline the return of Cape Town's premier spring lifestyle event

The Cape Spring Experience is back! After drawing more than 10,000 festivalgoers to its debut in 2024, the Cape Spring Experience is set to return on October 25 and it's promising to be bigger, bolder and more beautiful. Held again at the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse, think music, food, fashion and a lot of Cape Town magic. Last year's inaugural edition was described as a 'love letter to the Mother City' and this year the team behind the Experience is looking to raise the bar. Leading a star-studded line-up is Zonke Dikana, the soulful songstress whose voice and songwriting have long been part of the soundtrack of South African life. Joining her on the bill are Big Zulu, DJ Zinhle, Jaziel Brothers, Zuko SA, Bravo Le Roux and DJ Thela — a genre-bending line-up that captures everything from amapiano to soul, isiZulu storytelling to Cape Town hip-hop. It's a musical experience tailored to the heartbeat of a diverse nation. Festivalgoers can look forward to curated food stalls, local wine and cocktail lounges, fashion activations and lifestyle experiences that showcase the rich creativity Cape Town is known for. The festival also prides itself on impact. Organisers say it's about more than just a good time. It's about community upliftment, youth employment and SMME development. By supporting local vendors, giving emerging artists a stage and inviting authentic cultural participation, the event has become a space where culture meets commerce. 'This is an event that is proudly South African, globally relevant and deeply connected to the people,' the organisers said.

Afropop group The Soil to set stage alight at Heavyweights Live Concert

All roads lead to Carnival City's Big Top Arena in Ekurhuleni this Youth Day weekend for the Heavyweights Live Concert. The concert on Saturday features a heavyweight lineup of music icons Sjava, Big Zulu, The Soil and Ntokozo Mkhize. 'This isn't only another concert, it's a journey through music. It's a storytelling experience that reflects who we are as a people, where we come from and where we're going,' said Richard Ramudzuli, event manager at Thikho Events. 'We wanted to create something that celebrates our roots our culture, and our stories in a way that resonates deeply, specially on Youth Day weekend.' Ramudzuli said the carefully selected lineup reflects a rich tapestry of local voices and narratives. 'Sjava and Big Zulu are modern-day poets. They speak to the struggles and victories of ordinary people. Their lyrics carry the weight of lived experiences, wrapped in sounds that fuse tradition with innovation. 'The Soil brings a spiritual and soulful energy that touches the heart. Their harmonies uplift. Ntokozo Mkhize represents the new generation of storytellers, proving the future of South African music is in strong, talented hands.'

Big Zulu gives his 14-year-old daughter a taste of studio stardom

Award-winning rapper Big Zulu is stepping into a brand-new role: proud musical dad. The Mali Eningi hit maker, whose real name is Siyabonga Nene, is known for his hard-hitting bars and unmistakable Inkabi rap style — but now he's proving that talent runs in the family. Earlier this week social media went into a frenzy after a video clip surfaced showing Amapiano superstar Kabza De Small behind the studio desk, with the caption: 'New music coming soon from Kabza De Small and Big Zulu.' Naturally fans assumed the lyrical giant was making a surprise collab with the Amapiano king. But Big Zulu quickly set the record straight. Speaking to TshisaLIVE, he clarified that the voice in the video wasn't his — it was his 14-year-old daughter, who's been quietly working behind the scenes on her own musical journey. 'You know that voice? It wasn't me. That's my daughter,' he revealed with a proud grin. 'I'm preparing her for the music industry. We're working on her song, and I want to release her single. I just want her to understand the different sounds of music in the studio.' It looks like she's off to a strong start, having already recorded a track with Kabza De Small himself — talk about a power debut!

Big Zulu gives update on his celebrity soccer tournament and shop

Multi award-winning rapper Big Zulu's celebrity soccer tournament is to move to a bigger venue. Big Zulu, whose real name is Siyabonga Nene, rose to fame after releasing the single Donsa Nkabi in 2016. He signed a record deal with Universal Music in 2015 and released his debut album Ushun Wenkabi and then Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe. It is believed Big Zulu is in talks with the Moses Mabhida Stadium to host his celebrity soccer tournament in July and a source close to him suggests the talks are at an advanced stage. TshisaLIVE contacted the Inkabi Nation founder. 'We were looking at hosting this year's tournament at Moses Mabhida, but the talks haven't been concluded yet. If we get an approval that would be great for us members of the creative arts,' he said. During a recent Podcast and Chill interview with Mac G, Big Zulu alluded that he'll be venturing into the clothing business. 'The plans for opening in September are in place, as it'll be heritage month and that's also what [I'm] excited about, but just looking at getting the best location for my shop so we can get the business up and running,' Big Zulu told TshisaLIVE.
