EU appoints new Special Representative for Middle East Peace Process

BRUSSELS (AGENCIES) The European Council has appointed Christophe Bigot as the new Eropean Union Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process.
In a statement issued in Brussels, the Council said Bigot's mission is to contribute to the EU's goal of achieving a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, based on the two-state solution, with Israel and a democratic, viable, peaceful and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side within secure and recognised borders, and enjoying normal relations with their neighbours, in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
