Two get five-year RI in liquor case
Buxar: Special judge of excise court-2, Sonalal Rajak, on Thursday handed down a stern sentence in a liquor smuggling case, convicting two men and sentencing each to five years of rigorous imprisonment.
Both were also fined Rs 1 lakh under provisions of the Bihar Excise Act.
According to special public prosecutor Awadhesh Kumar Rai, the incident occurred on Aug 19, 2021 near the Dewal check post under Rajpur police station limits. The excise department intercepted two youths acting suspiciously. Upon search, liquor bottles were found concealed around their waists.
The accused were identified as Harendra Kumar (26) and Karan Kumar (39). Harendra was carrying four 200 ml bottles of liquor while Karan had six bottles of country-made spiced liquor.
The court found the evidence and witness testimonies compelling, awarding them the minimum sentence under the state's prohibition law.
