Complete drainage projects ahead of monsoon, says DM

Patna: Patna DM Thiyagarajan SM conducted an inspection of key infrastructure projects on Saturday, focusing on drainage and roadworks being carried out under schemes announced during CM Nitish Kumar's Pragati Yatra on Feb 21. He reviewed work on the paving of drains in Rajiv Nagar and Anandpuri, construction of roads over them and the creation of a four-lane road with an underground drain along the serpentine drain. The DM asked the officials concerned and engineers to speed up implementation, aligning with the CM's directives. According to the DM, the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) is responsible for paving the Rajiv Nagar drain and constructing a road above it, at a projected cost of Rs 181 crore. The project includes the development of the Kurji drain, which will run from Rajiv Nagar DPS to Shakuntala Market and via Atal Path to Kurji within the Patna Municipal Corporation area. "This will ease travel for residents of Rajiv Nagar, Mahesh Nagar, Indrapuri, Patel Nagar and surrounding areas while helping to alleviate traffic congestion," he said. Another project, also assigned to BUIDCO, involves paving and building a road over the Anandpuri drain with an estimated budget of Rs 91 crore. Combined, the two schemes are expected to benefit nearly four lakh residents directly. The DM added that the road construction department will link the under-construction four-lane road on the Mandiri drain to J P Ganga Path at a cost of Rs 52 crore. "This connection will provide direct access between Nehru Path and JP Ganga Path, and make it easier to reach PMCH and AIIMS," he added. The Bihar State Road Development Corporation (BSRDC) is working on a Rs 197-crore project to build a four-lane road with an underground drain along the serpentine drain, from Patel Golamber to both ends of Rajdhani Vatika and then to Atal Path. The DM stressed the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted water flow in all drains. He asked the officials to ensure they are kept clear of encroachments and regularly cleaned and desilted, to prevent flooding during the upcoming monsoon. He reminded that the CM had announced 32 development projects totalling Rs 10,871 crore for Patna district during the Feb yatra. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . ED conducts fresh searches in Bihar govt tenders' irregularities case

The Enforcement Directorate has conducted fresh searches in a money laundering case linked to an alleged contractor-bureaucrats nexus in Bihar where purported irregularities were detected in the tenders issued by the state government. The raids were conducted at nine locations in Patna and Muzaffarpur (Bihar), Surat (Gujrarat) and Panipat (Haryana) on Thursday under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in the case linked to Patna-based contractor Rishu Shree, the federal probe agency said in a statement. Several "incriminating" evidence and documents were seized during the raids that were carried out against some people and travel agents "connected" to the contractor, it said. The money laundering case stems from an FIR registered by the special vigilance unit (SVU) of Bihar government against Rishu Shree and others. The companies of the contractor take contracts and sub-contracts in various Bihar government departments like water resources, health, public health engineering, urban development, Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO), education, building and construction and rural works department. It is alleged to that the contractor has a "nexus" with various government officials to facilitate tenders for "illicit" personal gains, the ED said. The agency had conducted similar raids against certain government officials in this case in March and had seized Rs 11.64 crore.

RCD set to repair damaged city roads

Patna: Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCO) has handed over three major roads in Patna to the road construction department (RCD) for urgent repair works. The roads, spanning 1,199 metres, are located in the Digha and Kankarbagh zones where sewerage network works have recently been completed. BUIDCO managing director Animesh Kumar Parashar has asked agencies to ensure roads are restored immediately following completion of infrastructure work to avoid inconvenience to the public during the upcoming monsoon season. "The three roads assigned to the RCD for repair include Sahdeo Mahto Marg in Digha Zone-1, Ghurdaur Road in Digha Zone-2 and the stretch from Jaleshwar Temple to Jogipur Colony in Kankarbagh Zone," said an RCD official. Earlier, a list of 39 additional roads was handed over to the department for restoration. These include the stretch from Daroga Rai Path to Veer Chand Patel Path in Digha Zone 1, Digha-Ashiana Road to Shastri Nagar in Digha Zone 2 and from Hanuman Nagar to Malahi Pakri in Kankarbagh zone. Ranjeet Rai, a resident of Ghurdaur Road, said locals face regular difficulties crossing the Ashiana-Digha Road. "A lot of dust can be seen in the air due to ongoing construction work under the Namami Gange Project. While the RCD is responsible for restoring its own roads, the repair of roads under the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is carried out by BUIDCO's appointed agency. Road construction minister Nitin Nabin had recently directed that all damaged roads be repaired by May 30 without fail. He has also instructed agencies to ensure all open manholes at construction sites are securely covered and all potholes are filled without delay.
