Bihar finalises Rs12k cr plan to meet 2035 power demand
Patna: The Bihar govt has finalised a Rs 12,869 crore transmission upgrade blueprint to meet the state's projected electricity demand of 18,708MW by the financial year 2034-35, a senior energy department official said on Saturday. The ambitious plan, prepared by the Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited (BSPTCL) under the guidance of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), envisions a substantial expansion of the intra-state transmission network. A detailed study, jointly conducted by BSPTCL, CEA, the Central Transmission Utility of India Ltd and Grid-India, projects that Bihar's electricity demand will more than double over the next decade – from 8,428MW in 2025 to 18,708MW by FY 2034-35. "As demand escalates, a phased and methodical upgrade of our transmission infrastructure is critical," added energy secretary Manoj Kumar Singh. BSPTCL managing director Rahul Kumar said, "The transmission network is the backbone of any power system. This long-term plan will strengthen that backbone and enhance system resilience. The 400 kV network will enable direct power evacuation from the Nabinagar Thermal Power Station and the proposed Pirpainti thermal plant into Bihar's grid."

16 power substations to get battery energy storage system
Patna: Power cuts in at least 16 cities of Bihar will be a thing of past soon. The state electricity department has planned to supply power through a battery energy storage system that will maintain supply for four hours like a home inverter from 16 substations in case of any fault. The Union ministry of new and renewable energy has approved a battery energy storage system project of 500MWh capacity in Bihar. This project will be operated under 'Viability Gap Funding' (VGF) scheme under the state plan. The Centre has approved a total VGF amount of Rs 135 crore for this project at a rate of Rs 27 lakh per MWh or 30% of the total cost capital, whichever is less. State energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav termed it a "historic step" towards creating a flexible, sustainable and consumer-friendly power infrastructure. "Bihar is steadily progressing towards energy self-reliance under the leadership of CM Nitish Kumar. This project will be a milestone in our pursuit of technological innovation and environmental stewardship," he said. These battery systems of 125MW capacity will be installed in the grid substations of 16 cities to supply about 500MW of electricity for four hours, in case of power supply disruption from the plant or grid. The project will be completed by Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited. Batteries of 5 to 20MW capacity will be installed at each grid substation in Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, Bhagalpur, Sitamarhi, Fatuha, Mushahari, Udakishunganj, Jamui, Asthawan (Nalanda), Jehanabad, Rafiganj, Sheohar, Siwan, Kishanganj and Banka. So far, tenders have been finalised for six grid substations. The process is going on for the remaining places. It is believed that this project will not only ensure uninterrupted quality power supply, but will also help in balancing the difference in demand and supply during peak hours. Maharashtra-based energy solutions firm Prostram has received a Letter of Intent from Bihar State Power Transmission Company Limited. Nitish reaffirms commitment to NDA, vows bigger victory
1 2 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday reiterated his allegiance to the BJP-led NDA and vowed to secure a greater victory in this year's assembly elections than in previous polls. Addressing the JD(U) legal cell conference in Patna, Nitish said he would remain with the NDA and expressed confidence that his party would secure more votes this time. He urged party advocates to work with renewed energy and to take the NDA govt's policy of 'Nyay ke saath vikas' ( development with justice ) to the grassroots. His firm declaration came within 48 hours of a public meeting in Madhubani, where, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 24, Nitish admitted that his earlier decision to align with the RJD was due to mistakes by some party leaders – a move he pledged never to repeat. The back-to-back assertions surprised many in Bihar's political circles. "Ab idhar-udhar nahi hone wale hain. Beech mein kuch log garbad kar diya tha. Ab jo humlogon ke saath tha (BJP), unhi ke saath ekjoot ho kar kaam karenge aur bulandi ke saath unke saath chalenge. Hum chunav jyada vote se jitenge (Now, no switching sides. Some people had created confusion, but now we will work unitedly with the BJP and move forward with strength. We will win the election with more votes)," Nitish said, urging party members to work with full force towards victory. JD(U) legal cell state president Anand Kumar presided over the conference, which was attended by national working president and MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, state president Umesh Singh Kushwaha and ministers Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Ashok Choudhary and Sunil Kumar, among others. Nitish expressed strong faith in his legal cell colleagues, saying they would play a crucial role in strengthening the JD(U). He called upon them to spread the message of 'development with justice' and to ensure people benefit from govt initiatives. Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary said despite two decades in power, there was no anti-incumbency against the Nitish govt, calling it a rare phenomenon in Indian politics. Bijendra Prasad Yadav said 'development with justice' remains the Nitish govt's core philosophy for reducing social inequality and promoting inclusive development. Ashok Choudhary highlighted the crucial role of the legal cell in positively shaping society while Sunil Kumar said the Nitish govt had worked for the development of all sections of society with a spirit of service.
