DA Case: SAD leader Bikram Majithia's wife just compared him to legendary Bollywood dacoit — ‘AAP fears him like...'

In an apparent attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia's wife, Ganieve Kaur, has compared her husband to legendary Bollywood dacoit 'Gabbar Singh'. She said the AAP government fears Bikram Majithia like people were scared of 'Gabbar' in the famous Bollywood film Sholay. Amid a probe against Bikram Majithia for amassing disproportionate assets, public prosecutor PIP Singh on Wednesday said new facts have come up, such as his land in Shimla, which was shown as 0.56 hectares in the affidavit, is actually 402 hectares. He also said that Bikram Majithia's wife, Ganieve Kaur Majithia, spent crores to set up a residential society in Jalandhar. The public prosecutor said further investigation is required in the disproportionate assets case. 'Arguments happened for 3-4 hours. We apprised the court that new facts have come up, and we need to do further investigation. We told the court that the wife of Bikram Majithia had spent crores for a society in Jalandhar; she has a 25 per cent share, we are investigating. We have also come to know that their land in Shimla, which they showed is 0.56 hectares in the affidavit, is actually 402 hectares of land according to the sale deed,' PIP Singh said. On Tuesday, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau took Bikram Majithia, the brother-in-law of Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, to his office in Amritsar's Majitha in connection with the disproportionate assets case. Ganieve Kaur, the SAD MLA from the Majitha assembly seat, and her supporters were stopped from heading towards the office even before the vigilance bureau officials arrived there. She was seen arguing with the police officials, saying the vigilance bureau team could undertake a search operation in the office, but she "should be allowed to go". "I want to sit in my office. I am the local MLA. I am not going to break any law," Kaur added. Ganieve told ANI: '...We want justice...I am not being allowed to enter my is a law and order issue in the are many other issues in the state, but they (state government) just focus on Bikram Singh Majithia.' Lashing out at the AAP government and accusing it of targeting her husband, she said: 'They are scared of him as he is the only person who exposes them.' On Monday, the vigilance bureau took Bikram Majithia to Himachal Pradesh for verification of property allegedly linked to his family. Bikram Majithia was arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau on June 25 over money laundering allegations involving ₹ 540 crore of "drug money".

Punjab Congress leaders under vigilance scrutiny fear being targeted by AAP-led govt ahead of 2027 polls

CHANDIGARH: With 19 months left till the 2027 assembly elections, the Punjab Congress leadership is apprehensive that the current AAP-led Punjab government might target party leaders who are facing vigilance inquiries. Such concerns have been raised following the arrest of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia in a drugs and disproportionate assets case, while former Health Minister and AAP MLA Vijay Singla and his OSD Pradeep Kumar were given a clean chit in a corruption case registered against them in 2022. Sources said that a charge sheet has been filed in cases registered against former Congress MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon and former cabinet minister OP Soni. Other Congress leaders who are facing vigilance inquiries include: Punjab Congress President and Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Amarinder Raja Warring, former Chief Minister and Member of Parliament from Jalandhar Charanjit Singh Channi, former cabinet ministers Sunder Shyam Arora and Vijay Inder Singla, and MLAs Barindemeet Singh Pahra and Pargat Singh. Channi, who himself is under the scrutiny of the vigilance, claimed that those politicians who are vocal against the government are being targeted by the AAP government. "They have already been after me for a long time, several party leaders, including Jalandhar (Cantonment) MLA Pargat Singh, were under the lens of the vigilance bureau. After Bikram Majithia, Pargat Singh might be next target of the government," he said. Ludhiana MP Warring said, "It would be premature to comment at this moment." On the other hand, Punjab Police has given a clean chit to former Health Minister and AAP MLA Vijay Singla and his OSD Pradeep Kumar in corruption case registered against them in 2022 at Phase 8 Police Station in Mohali. The state police have filed a closure report in a court in Mohali recently, citing that no conclusive evidence was found to proceed against the accused. The court will take up the matter on July 14. While thhe complainant in the case, Rajinder Singh, a government engineer on deputation with Punjab Health System Corporation, has agreed with the closure report. It is worth mentioning here that the complainant had submitted that he was summoned to Punjab Bhawan, and a commission of one per cent was demanded from him. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had dismissed Singla from his cabinet.

Plot to attack Shah in pro-Amritpal WA group busted, 2 held

CHANDIGARH: After alleged screenshots of a WhatsApp group conversation in support of jailed pro-Khalistan leader and Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh was leaked on social media, the Punjab Police on Monday registered a case and arrested two persons in the matter. The group reportedly discussed plans to target Union home minister Amit Shah, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia in 'retaliation' to the one-year extension granted for Amritpal's detention under the National Security Act (NSA). An FIR was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Moga under various sections of the BNS, UAPA and the IT Act. The accused have been identified as Lakhdeep Singh Sardargarh from Bathinda, Balkar Singh from New Model Town in Khanna, and Pawandeep Singh from Khote, Moga. Among them, Balkar and Pawandeep have been arrested. DIG (Faridkot Range) Ashwani Kapoor said, 'A case has been registered by Moga police and two accused have been arrested while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other unidentified persons.' The alleged screenshots and audio recordings related to the matter have already been shared with security agencies, police added. Police sources claimed the WhatsApp group, which has over 600 members, discussed plans of targeted strikes to avenge the extension of Amitpal Singh's detention. The group conversation allegedly included details on foreign funding, arms procurement, and circulation of inflammatory content online, they added. Sources claimed the leaked chats have revealed that certain members were willing to sacrifice their lives for the cause provided their families are assured protection. According to the sources, the pro-Khalistan group accused Union ministers Shah and Bittu, Akali dal elder Bikram Majithia, and Parminder Singh Talwara, an aide to the late 'Waris Punjab De' founder Deep Sidhu, for their assumed role in keeping the Waris Punjab De chief in jail.
