In an official statement issued on X, the consulate confirmed that the suspension applies to all non-EU applicants, including those with already confirmed visa appointments. The consulate clarified that these appointments have been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Affected applicants have been advised to re-register for appointments once the consulate resumes its services. Updates on the situation will be issued as and when available, the consulate said, expressing appreciation for the public's understanding during the disruption. Earlier this month, Sweden announced the resumption of visa services in Islamabad following the Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and Sweden, held in Stockholm on July 2. ISLAMABAD, July 9: Sweden has officially reinstated Schengen visa services at its embassy in Islamabad, providing Pakistani citizens with renewed access to apply for short-stay visas. This development will facilitate travel to Sweden and other Schengen countries for visits of up to 90 days, the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed. The resumption of services follows the 19th round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between Pakistan and Sweden, held in Stockholm on July 2. The discussions focused on enhancing diplomatic relations and deepening bilateral cooperation. Effective July 7, Pakistani nationals can once again submit Schengen visa applications directly through the Swedish embassy in Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: Sweden announced to resume visa services for Pakistanis through its Embassy in Islamabad two years after it was closed amid security concerns following massive protests over desecration of Holy Quran, Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan confirmed on Monday. 'Following the Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan and Sweden, held in Stockholm on 2nd July 2025, the Government of Sweden has announced the resumption of visa services in Islamabad. This will facilitate Pakistanis seeking to visit Sweden for short stays,' the spokesperson added. Effective 7th July 2025, the FO statement reads that Pakistani nationals can apply for a Schengen visa from within Pakistan for visits to Sweden of up to 90 days. 'Pakistan welcomes this positive development, which reflects the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two countries,' Ambassador Shafqat remarked. The Pakistani delegation to the Bilateral Consultations in Stockholm was led by the Additional Foreign Secretary (Europe), while the Swedish side was headed by the Director General for Global Affairs from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Embassy of Sweden in Islamabad had shut down its operation in Pakistan indefinitely on 12th April 2023 citing the security situation as the main reason. The understanding was reached during the 9th Round of Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) held in Warsaw on July 4.
