Honeywell Acquires Nexceris' Li-ion Tamer Business, Strengthening Battery Fire Detection Portfolio

Global technology leader Honeywell has announced the acquisition of the Li-ion Tamer business from Nexceris, a move set to boost its position in the lithium-ion battery safety market. Li-ion Tamer, a pioneering off-gas detection solution, is designed to detect early signs of thermal runaway in lithium-ion batteries, offering critical protection across high-risk sectors such as energy storage, cloud infrastructure, and electric vehicle (EV) systems. The acquisition follows a five-year strategic partnership between Honeywell and Nexceris aimed at advancing battery safety technologies. As lithium-ion battery usage accelerates — with demand projected to grow over 30% annually through 2030 to exceed USD 400 billion — the need for early fire detection and safety solutions has become more urgent than ever. "As lithium-ion battery use grows rapidly across data centers, EV infrastructure, and grid-scale energy storage, the risk of fire is increasing in parallel," said Billal Hammoud, President and CEO of Honeywell's Building Automation segment. "Li-ion Tamer's early warning technology has been revolutionary for our customers and partners. Building on our legacy partnership, the acquisition of this product suite will position Honeywell as a leader in early gas detection and battery fire prevention." Li-ion Tamer uses advanced sensing technology to detect off-gassing — an early indicator of battery failure — providing facilities up to 30 minutes' warning before a thermal runaway event. This lead time can be crucial in preventing full-scale battery fires that can otherwise destroy entire systems. Trusted globally by leading battery OEMs, the Li-ion Tamer product line includes more than 30 patents. Honeywell plans to integrate the technology into its Building Automation segment, complementing existing fire detection solutions such as VESDA and the Connected Life Safety Services platform, part of the Honeywell Forge IoT ecosystem. "This acquisition not only strengthens our fire detection capabilities but also aligns with our broader strategy of building a safer and more connected world," Hammoud added. "We expect this tuck-in acquisition to further bolster the growth of our fire detection business." The deal is expected to be immediately accretive to Honeywell's financials and follows a string of strategic acquisitions and divestitures, including the sale of its Personal Protective Equipment division and over USD 13.5 billion in recent portfolio-enhancing deals. With this move, Honeywell is reaffirming its commitment to advancing safety technologies and addressing critical challenges posed by energy storage and electrification across industries.

Honeywell launches AI building management for Australia, NZ
Honeywell has released a new AI-powered building management system now available in Australia and New Zealand, following pilot tests by Verizon in its global facilities. Platform features The system, called Connected Solutions, is designed to allow building operators and facility managers to control software, systems and devices through a single, integrated interface. It features energy-management tools aimed at supporting decarbonisation, advanced encryption for cybersecurity, and remote monitoring and diagnostics to lower labour requirements and costs. The platform also offers predictive maintenance prompts to help identify and resolve issues before they escalate. The launch of Connected Solutions comes as building owners contend with several industry challenges, including ageing facilities, increased costs from system downtime, shortages of skilled labour and tightening cybersecurity regulations. Honeywell says the new platform is intended to address these matters by bringing disparate building systems together under one interface. Technology and integration Connected Solutions is built on Honeywell Forge, the company's industrial IoT platform. The platform enables managers, including facility and multi-site operators as well as integrators, to oversee all Honeywell-related systems using one dashboard. When deployed across a building or campus, the system provides comprehensive, real-time data about critical systems, along with guidance on troubleshooting and optimising operations. The installation process uses AI to speed deployment, reportedly allowing the system to be up and running within hours. Honeywell states this reduces both the time and disruption typically associated with installing building management systems, alongside reducing related labour costs. Security and sustainability In response to growing concerns about cyberthreats, Connected Solutions incorporates advanced encryption measures. Its remote diagnostic features aim to reduce onsite labour by allowing for offsite monitoring, while predictive maintenance helps address issues early in order to avoid service disruptions and more significant repair expenses. Connected Solutions also includes energy management functionalities designed to help organisations work toward decarbonisation goals. By monitoring and optimising building energy use through the platform, operators can target efficiency improvements and cost reductions. Industry adoption Early adopters of Connected Solutions include Verizon and Vanderbilt University. Verizon has begun using the platform within its facilities worldwide. According to Honeywell, Verizon is leveraging Connected Solutions to anticipate and address critical system issues before they grow into larger problems, aiming to reduce downtime and maintenance costs. Vanderbilt University has also integrated Connected Solutions into about 10 per cent of its campus buildings, choosing the platform to boost system efficiency, cut energy use and improve the occupant experience, particularly in older facilities.
