Pedestrian dies after being struck by car in Co Offaly
A man in his 50s has died after he was struck by a car in Co Offaly.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, which occurred on the N62 at Killeenboy, Cloghan, shortly after 11pm last night.
His body was removed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where a post-mortem examination will take place.
No other injuries were reported.
The road has been closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, particularly any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 10pm to 11.30pm, to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 9169710, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
The man's death brings to 68 the number of people who have died on Irish roads, including 21 pedestrians.
