How Ignored India Star Sarfaraz Khan Lost 17 Kg In Just Over 2 Months: "Green Coffee, Broccoli, No Rice, No..."

Sarfaraz Khan on Monday stunned the cricket world by sharing his latest image where the talented batter looked a lot leaner than his earlier self. Several reports claimed that he had lost 17 kg in little over two months, and the 27-year-old himself shared a photo which said he lost the reported weight. Khan, who has played six Tests scoring 371 runs, was not picked for the India squad that is currently playing in England. He, however, featured in the India A Tour of England that preceded the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and scored a ton too. Though Sarfaraz broke into the Indian team last year, making his Test debut against England in February, he hasn't quite managed to cement his place in the team yet. While runs have been coming from Sarfaraz's bat in domestic cricket, the right-handed batter has further proven his resolve by working hard on his fitness too. So, how did Sarfaraz Khan lose 17kgs? In May, when he was named for the India A Tour, his father Naushad gave a detailed account of his weight loss journey. "We have controlled our diet a lot. We have stopped eating roti, rice, etc. We haven't eaten roti or rice at home for 1 to 1.5 months. We eat broccoli, carrot, cucumber, salad, and green vegetable salad. Along with that, we eat grilled fish, grilled chicken, boiled chicken, boiled egg, etc. We are also having green tea and green coffee," Naushad told HT. "We eat avocados also. There are sprouts also. But the main thing is that we have stopped eating roti and rice. We have stopped eating sugar. We have stopped eating maida (flour) and bakery items." Naushad added that Sarfaraz had given up on Biryani too. "He has almost lost 10 kgs within 1.5 months. He is working on reducing his weight even further. I have reduced 12 kgs myself because I had a knee issue. So, I also benefited from it. The doctor told me that I have to do a knee replacement. So, I told him that I had to delay it. He told me that I have to reduce my weight for that," Naushad said. Sarfaraz's snub for the India Tour of England was criticised by many former cricketers.

Cultural pride dominates wedding menus this season

This wedding season, Kolkata's catering trends are leaning strongly towards bold, nostalgic flavours—with traditional Bengali fare dominating menus across the city. S Ramani, director of a city-based catering brand, shared, 'Menus are curated to balance flavour with cost featuring three non-veg and two veg mains, two starters, tea, and two sweets. Interestingly, 70% of orders are for Bengali non-veg items, and these alone bring in 95% of our revenue.' Read on to know what's trending. Homely cuisine sees demand uptick Fusion food, once the go-to for upscale weddings, is seeing a decline. 'People are moving away from experimentation and returning to authentic, comforting flavours,' said Ranjan Thakur of a wedding catering service. 'Mutton kosha and Pulao are more popular than chicken now, and desserts like Payesh and Gorom rosogolla are becoming wedding staples.' Other favourites such as Biryani and Kebabs are still part of the mix, driven by a renewed sense of cultural pride and a craving for flavours that feel like home. The sentiment we keep hearing from patrons is: We want guests to leave remembering how good the food was – Debashish Ghosh, GM at a national restuarant and catering chain

Punjab CM Mann accuses Congress, BJP of dividing people

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday (July 11, 2025) hit out at the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of dividing the people on sectarian, regional, lingual, communal, and other lines, due to which States have been at loggerheads with each other. He again took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi surrounding his foreign visits, a day after the Government of India disassociated itself from the comments made by Mr. Mann, where he mocked Mr. Modi's recently concluded five-nation tour of countries. Speaking during the ongoing special Assembly session over a resolution to oppose deployment of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at dams, Mr. Mann said, 'If Mr. Modi can end the war between Ukraine and Russia, as propagated by their media, then what stops him from ensuring a truce between Punjab and Haryana. Both these States are like brothers and contribute more than 70% to the national food pool, but over the years, both these parties, who had assumed the power in Punjab and Haryana, ensured that cockfight prevails between them so that they can enjoy the fruits of power,' he said. The resolution opposing the deployment of the CISF at dams was passed by the State Assembly. Mr. Mann said Mr. Modi was keen to become a world leader but was least bothered about the affairs of the State, due to which the fundamental issues of the citizens have been ignored. 'A sorry state of affairs persists in the country as a film made before the Pahalgam attack cannot be released in India, but the Prime Minister can go to Pakistan anytime to have Biryani by landing there. While the Prime Minister finds time to tour foreign countries, he fails to address the concerns of 140 crore Indians… PM Modi celebrates foreign honours from countries with populations as small as 10,000 while neglecting the nation's pressing issues,' he said. Later, talking to media persons, Mr. Mann said as a Chief Minister of the State, he had every right to question the foreign policy of the country. He said he would repeatedly ask the question about the foreign visits of Mr. Modi. Meanwhile, five Bills, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Punjab Amendment) Bill, 2025, were passed in the House. Mr. Mann said the rural games had been an integral part of the glorious culture of the State, and the Bill aimed at giving impetus to the rural games, particularly the bullock cart race. In 2014, the bullock cart race was discontinued following a Supreme Court ban. Noisy scenes were also witnessed in the Assembly as Congress members staged a walkout from the House over the law and order situation against the background of the recent killing incident of a businessman in Abohar town. Even as Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan conveyed that members will get enough time to raise their issues, the Congress MLAs walked out. They later came to join the proceedings.

Punjab CM Mann at it again, targets Modi in state assembly after MEA terms his comments 'irresponsible'

CHANDIGARH: A day after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) disapproved the remarks of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's foreign visit terming them ``irresponsible'', Mann on Friday repeated the comments on the floor of the state assembly. Participating in the debate on the floor of Punjab Vidhan Sabha on the resolution to oppose deployment of CISF on Bhakra and Nangal dams, which was unanimously passed by the House, Mann said the Ministry of External Affairs has issued a statement, when he as a citizen, questioned the foreign policy of the BJP-led central government. Mann said that if Modi can end the war between Ukraine and Russia, as propagated by (their media), then what stops him from ensuring a truce between Punjab and Haryana. He said that both these states are like brothers and contribute more than 70 per cent in the national food pool but there are forces always keen to ensure that both the states fight with each other on the issues like water despite the fact that both the states have several things in common. Mann said that PM Modi is keen to become world leader but is least bothered about the affairs of the state due to which the fundamental issues of the citizens have been ignored. He said that sorry state of affairs persists in the country as film made before the Pahalgam attack cannot be released in India but the PM can go to Pakistan anytime to have Biryani by landing there.
