Why It's Always Sunny icon nearly left cult comedy series
Glenn Howerton, star of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, considered leaving the show due to anxiety and a belief it might have "peaked".
Howerton, who plays Dennis Reynolds, felt "boxed in" and desired to pursue other acting roles outside the long-running sitcom, now in its 17th season.
The comedy actor 'was aching to do other things', with a recent dramatic portrayal of Jim Balsillie in 2023 film Blackberry.
He suggested ending the series, but his co-stars, including creator Rob McElhenney, opted to continue.
McElhenney confirmed that Howerton has attempted to leave the show on multiple occasions but was always written back into the script.
