Overwatch 2 launches new Loverwatch dating sim with more characters but only in select regions
Blizzard has launched a new version of its Loverwatch dating sim in Overwatch 2, allowing players to interact with additional characters, but the event is currently exclusive to Chinese servers. Loverwatch first appeared in 2023, letting players date characters such as Genji and Mercy in a browser-based mini-game, including a secret Cupid Hanzo ending. The spinoff mode received positive reception, with many players requesting its return in the main game. The newly announced Loverwatch update expands the playable roster, adding characters including Lifeweaver, Mauga, Juno, Junker Queen, Cassidy, and Genji, all featured in new artwork and a trailer. Characters appear in themed attire, giving them a different look outside of their standard in-game skins. However, the update is currently only accessible within China. Users on social media noted that to play the dating sim, players must register for the Chinese Overwatch 2 server, providing national ID and phone verification. Content on these accounts does not transfer to international servers, limiting access for players outside China. Overwatch 2 returned to China in February 2025 after a two-year absence due to a licensing issue, offering various in-game events and rewards upon its re-entry. It remains unclear whether this Loverwatch update is exclusive to the Chinese community or if Blizzard plans to release the mode globally in future updates. Players outside China have expressed hope that the expanded Loverwatch event may arrive on international servers for future seasonal events, potentially by Valentine's Day next year.

Blizzard Bicycle Club members impress at Dawson Creek Triathlon
DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — A pair of cyclists halted full-time bicycle racing – momentarily – for the chance to attempt a different sport on the weekend. Jay and Valerie Weber, both mainstays of the Blizzard Bicycle Club, honed their riding skills to participate in the Dawson Creek Triathlon on July 13th. The event on Sunday featured five different disciplines, including a duathlon, a try-a-triathlon, a Kids of Steel triathlon and a family relay. Both Webers competed in the sprint event, consisting of a 750-metre – or 30-length – swim at Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre, before a 20-kilometre ride to Pouce Coupe and then a five-kilometre run, ending back at the pool. Each had successful results, with both placing in the top four of overall times, winning the men's and women's events respectively. Jay made up ground after his swim by having the fastest time on the bike at 35 minutes and 50.1 seconds. He took first overall in the race with a time of one hour, 18 minutes and 7.6 seconds. Meanwhile, Valerie's swimtime put her in the top five, keeping pace with the leaders. A biking time of 42 minutes and three seconds put her ahead, a lead she would not relinquish, with an overall finishing time of one hour, 29 minutes and 8.6 seconds. Meanwhile, another Blizzard member, Kristine Bock, finished third in the women's race and eighth overall in a time of one hour, 35 minutes and 39.4 seconds. Overwatch 2 director says Blizzard is interested in a TV series
Overwatch 2 director Aaron Keller has stated that Blizzard is interested in producing a TV series for the game and bringing back animated shorts. Keller shared these comments while speaking with Twitch streamer Jay3, where he discussed the future of Overwatch 2's story following the cancellation of its PvE content. Keller said the team would 'love to do that' when asked about a potential TV series for Overwatch 2. He also noted, 'Even more than just a TV series, one of the things we see or hear our players talk about is Overwatch has dropped the ball when it comes to story and lore.' Blizzard previously released animated shorts to introduce heroes and expand the game's universe before the launch of the first Overwatch. While Overwatch 2 has had some shorts, they have been less frequent, and Keller expressed a desire to increase their presence. 'For me, personally, for us to say that Overwatch 2 is firing on all cylinders, we need to have some of those [shorts] come back,' Keller said during the discussion. Reports cited by journalist Jason Schreier have indicated that an Overwatch TV series was previously in development along with series for Warcraft and Diablo, but plans were cancelled following legal disputes between Blizzard and Netflix.
