Orlando Pirates news: Sipho Mbule and a special meeting
Sipho Mbule, a popular midfield maestro in Mzansi football, has joined Orlando Pirates for next season's Betway Premiership term. As a measure to manage Mbule's reported ill-discipline towards alcohol, Sundowns loaned the 27-year-old to Sekhukhune United before the start of last season. Three months before the end of his loan spell, Sekhukhune released the Bethlehem-born star for continued unprofessional behaviour. Sundowns decided against keeping the elegant midfielder. Former player disgraced by Kaizer Chiefs' latest signing
Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes the club made the wrong call in signing English League Two player Ethan Chislett, especially when Mamelodi Sundowns' Sipho Mbule became a free agent. Chislett, albeit born in Durban, has never played in the PSL, instead spending his career between AFC Wimbledon and Port Vale. The 26-year-old has amassed 242 league appearances in England, scoring or assisting on 56 occasions. 'I see the guy, and if I'm not mistaken, I think he was playing in the second or third division wherever he is coming from. In terms of South African football, it's more of a Vodacom (ABC Motsepe) League where he is coming from, I have been told,' Khanye said 'I don't think it's the right direction by Kaizer Chiefs to be bringing the guy, although I can't comment much because I haven't seen him play, to be fair to him. It's very difficult to judge a player before you have seen him with your own eyes playing.' 'As for agents, they will always be there to sell their players. Who doesn't want their product to be sold? Zimbabwean man gets 50 years for armed robbery, kidnapping
The Booysens Magistrate's Court has sentenced 30-year-old Zimbabwean national Nxinxi Tshabalala to 50 years in prison for hijacking, robbery, kidnapping, and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The Booysens Magistrates' Court convicted Tshabalala on Friday, 27 June, after he terrorised a family during a home invasion in Johannesburg. The court heard that Tshabalala entered the home while the complainant's wife, 16-year-old son, 12-year-old son, and four-year-old daughter were inside. He demanded money while pointing a firearm at the youngest child. After Tshabalala fled with four stolen cellphones, the complainant used a nearby shop's services to trace one of the phones. Police assisted in locating the suspect at an address where they recovered the stolen devices and subsequently arrested him. During sentencing, regional court prosecutor Licel Hlungwane called for a strong punishment to deter similar violent crimes, while the defence pleaded for leniency, citing Tshabalala's circumstances. However, the court rejected the plea and handed down a cumulative sentence of 50 years. 20 years for robbery, 10 years for kidnapping. 15 years for possession of a firearm, and five years for possession of ammunition. National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane welcomed the outcome and praised the work of the investigating team and the prosecution. She said the sentence reflected the seriousness of the crime and reaffirmed the NPA's commitment to justice and community safety. We must be fair in that the market has changed and the climate has changed, and every team goes through cycles and changes. 'There was a time when certain teams were not at the top and experiencing challenges and we are fortunate in that we have had years and years of absolute success. It is just now that we have had a period of challenges, and it is great that we have won the Nedbank Cup. 'We need to be careful in saying we didn't have good players when those players won us the Nedbank Cup,' Motaung added. Eskom to implement 12-hour power outage in Gauteng on Tuesday
Due to planned maintenance, Eskom has scheduled a 12-hour power outage in the Gauteng region. The maintenance is scheduled for Tuesday, 1 July, from 8:00 to 20:00. Eskom said there will be an electricity supply disruption in Aston Lake, Benoni, due to maintenance that will be conducted on the distribution network. 'The power outage will affect customers in Aston Lake on Tuesday, 1 July, from 8:00 – 20:00. The interruption of electricity is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution power lines,' the power utility said. 'Eskom in Gauteng conducts planned maintenance on the distribution electricity network across the province as part of its maintenance plan. It is essential for maintenance to be conducted to service the infrastructure to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of the electricity supply,' Eskom added. In the interest of safety, Eskom said customers should treat all electrical appliances as live at all times during the power outage. Additionally, the power utility said should circumstances beyond its control arise, the planned electricity maintenance in Benoni may not proceed as communicated.
