Flames from Delta engine caught on video; jet lands safely at LAX
Fire erupted in one engine of a Delta Airlines plane just after take-off late last week at Los Angeles International Airport, but after a quick turnaround, the jet landed safely. Flight 446, which was en route from LAX to Atlanta on Friday afternoon, made a loop and touched down around 2:10 pm, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, which said the incident would be investigated. The Boeing 767-400 had 226 passengers on board, along with two pilots and seven flight attendants. Shortly after take-off, the crew received an 'indication of an issue with the aircraft's left engine,' according to Delta. By chance, a camera operator for L.A. Flights, a YouTube channel that livestreams planes coming in and out of LAX, happened to catch Delta 446 just as its engine caught fire. Footage shows the plane angled up into the sky with flames shooting out of its left engine. 'Whoa. Hang on, that's not good,' the camera operator says as the flames continue to flare. 'Oh my gosh.' Minutes later, the video shows the plane landing safely as fire trucks speed toward it. The plane was able to return to the gate on its own power, and passengers were re-booked on other flights. Later, people claiming to be passengers or family members of passengers posted comments on the video. 'I was on this flight, sitting in the middle aisle,' one person wrote. 'I couldn't see the smoke or fire but some people saw it. It was really scary for those 10 minutes! Everyone remained very calm, even if we were internally panicking. Very thankful to be on land now!' Another person, who said their daughter was on the plane added: 'The flight crew was exceptional and calm the whole time. Kudos to all of them for the safe return of all on board.'

Delta Boeing 767 catches fire mid-air, makes emergency landing
LOS ANGELES, July 20: A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-400 caught fire mid-air shortly after takeoff, forcing an emergency landing. Video footage shows orange flames emerging from the plane's left engine as it ascended. Josh, co-owner of the YouTube channel LA Flights, captured the moment, exclaiming, 'Look at that!' and 'Woah!' while filming. The flight was en route to Atlanta but had to circle back and land safely on the runway. During the descent, Josh noted, 'Thankfully, the hydraulics are functioning and we got the landing gear down for the 767.' He zoomed in on the left engine before confirming the plane had landed 'nice and safely.' Emergency vehicles were seen approaching the aircraft upon landing. A Delta spokesperson said, 'Delta flight 446 returned to Los Angeles shortly after departure following an indication of an issue with the aircraft's left engine.' Earlier in the week, another Boeing engine fire occurred, also in Los Angeles. Video captured a Boeing 737 jet sparking and shooting flames into the night sky shortly after takeoff, with passengers describing the event as a mid-air 'explosion.' The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation after the right engine of a Sun Country Airlines Boeing 737 encountered problems moments after departing Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday night. The pilot declared an emergency and safely returned to LAX. Flight 430, carrying 166 passengers and heading to Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, experienced an engine issue mid-flight. Fire trucks and emergency responders were on standby when the plane landed safely back at the airport.

Boeing Delta 767 flight catches fire after takeoff, returns to Los Angeles
A Delta Air Lines flight en route to Atlanta was forced to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport shortly after takeoff on Saturday (local time), after pilots detected signs of a fire in the aircraft's left engine. Flight DL446, operated by a Boeing 767-400, had departed Los Angeles airport when the crew observed indications of an engine fire. The aircraft, powered by two GE CF6 engines, was climbing out over the Pacific Ocean when the issue arose. Pilots immediately declared an emergency and requested a return to Los Angeles. Air Traffic Control guided the jet safely back, alerting emergency services at the airport. Ground footage captured by aviation YouTube channel LA Flights, run by Josh and Peter, showed flames erupting from the left engine as the aircraft turned back over southern Los Angeles. In the video, the jet is seen flying steadily while a fireball blazes beneath one wing. As the aircraft descended, the fire appeared to subside. The landing gear deployed as expected, and the plane touched down safely with the engine no longer visibly burning. ❗️Boeing 787 Makes Emergency Landing in LA ???????? - Engine ON FIRE ???? The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched an investigation into the incident. Delta engine fire follows deadly Air India crash in June The Delta engine fire incident comes just a month after a separate and far more tragic incident involving a Boeing aircraft. On June 12, an Air India flight 171 operating a Boeing 787 Dreamliner crashed into a medical college complex in the Meghani Nagar area of Ahmedabad shortly after take-off. The flight was en route from Ahmedabad to Gatwick, London. The crash claimed the lives of more than 260 people. A preliminary report by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), released on July 12, revealed that the fuel switches to the aircraft's engines had been turned off within seconds of take-off. The action caused immediate confusion in the cockpit, according to the report, which remains under investigation. A subsequent report by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, said the first officer had questioned the more experienced captain about switching the fuel controls to the "cutoff" position just after the plane lifted off the runway. The captain is believed to have turned off the switches, though the AAIB has not clarified whether the action was deliberate or accidental.
