Ashton Vale: Bomb threat suspect released on bail

A man arrested on suspicion of attempting to manufacture an explosive at his home in Bristol has been released on bail, police say. More than 60 properties on and around South Liberty Lane in the south of the city were evacuated on Tuesday evening following reports a man had access to potentially explosive items. A 21-year-old man was arrested at 19:10 BST that evening on suspicion of making an explosive and for being in possession of has since been released on bail, Avon and Somerset Police said, but is barred from returning to South Liberty Lane while enquiries continue. A bomb disposal team was deployed to the scene on Tuesday evening and residents were not allowed to return to their homes until just after 03:00 said early investigative enquiries indicate that the item found was "not a viable explosive".Supt Stephanie McKenna has thanked residents for their patience during the "distressing time". "It is always our priority to protect and preserve life and officers worked with colleagues from other emergency services to bring the incident to a safe conclusion," she said.
