20 top players whose contracts expire in 2026

Entering the final season of a contract can put the player in the power position and there are some top footballers whose current deals expire in 2026. Unless new terms are agreed, or a sale is made this summer, each of these players will be free to leave on a Bosman in 12 month's time. Some, including Victor Osimhen and Marc Guehi, are expected to leave for fees in the current window. Others, including Brentford duo Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, have optional extensions that the club can activate. However, clubs including Liverpool – who lost Trent Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer – Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan face nervous waits over key names. Free agency has become big business, with this season's crop of Bosman movers including the aforementioned Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool to Real Madrid), Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen to Bayern Munich) and Jonathan David (Lille to Juventus). Lyall Cameron says it is a 'privilege' as he completes move to Rangers

Lyall Cameron says it is a 'privilege' after being officially unveiled as a Rangers player. The midfielder made the move from Dundee on a Bosman after signing a pre-contract deal with the Ibrox club in January. He will now be aiming to make an impact on new head coach Russell Martin and make his mark on the first team in the season ahead. As he confirmed as a Rangers player on Tuesday, he said: 'It is amazing to walk in the door, it is a privilege really. 'I have been looking forward to it for a long time.' Cameron could potentially make his debut in a Champions League qualifier that takes place next month. Dream Rangers XI for Russell Martin with two £12m men, prize Ibrox asset and Leeds United connection exploited

Record Sport's Scott McDermott looks at how the Light Blues could line up in a dream scenario for the new boss New Rangers boss Russell Martin has already set his sights on Ibrox signing targets after taking over as gaffer. Record Sport exclusively revealed that he's keen on Israeli striker Dor Turgeman from Maccabi Tel Aviv and Leicester City defender Conor Coady. ‌ And the Rangers rumour mill is in overdrive, in terms of which players might follow him to Glasgow. ‌ Martin will also be assessing the squad he's inherited from Philippe Clement, with some players fighting for their futures. After finishing 17 points behind Celtic, there will be a complete overhaul this summer, especially with new sporting director Kevin Thelwell on board. Martin has been linked with guys he's worked with in the past at former clubs Southampton and Swansea City. And being renowned for his distinct style of play, the new Gers boss will know exactly the type of player he wants to bring to Ibrox. Here, Record Sport takes a look at what his new-look Rangers side might look like if he can pull off a dream summer transfer window: ‌ Jack Butland It remains to be seen whether Martin will want a new goalkeeper to kick-start his Rangers revolution. To play in his style the keeper has to be adept with the ball at his feet and Butland has had issues in that department. ‌ But he's a former England international who has another two years left on his contract so should start the season as Gers' number one James Tavernier Martin wants his full-backs to bomb up and down with energy - and the skipper will be 34 in October. ‌ But the manager has already confirmed that his former Ibrox team-mate, Tavernier, will remain as club captain this season. He also said that he'll have to earn a start like every other player so it will be interesting to see what competition Tavernier has at right-back. Conor Coady ‌ Martin is keen to add experience to Rangers' backline and sees the former England centre-back as an ideal addition. Coady was captain at Wolves for years before moving to Leicester for £12 million. He's a ball-playing defender with proper leadership skills and a big voice in the dressing-room. ‌ If Martin gets his man this summer, he'll be a key signing for Gers. Harry Darling When Martin moved from MK Dons to Swansea City, he immediately wanted Darling to join him in Wales. ‌ He went on to become a vital player for him at the Liberty Stadium and is now available on a free transfer with his contract expired. There's loads of interest from other Championship clubs but Darling would seem an obvious target for Martin who knows he can rely on him. Harry Toffolo ‌ Martin knows Toffolo from his days at Norwich when the left-back was a youth player who eventually left Carrow Road and made a name for himself at Huddersfield. Nottingham Forest signed him when they were promoted to the Premier League. ‌ He's available on a Bosman and would give Gers experience at left-back - as well as challenging Jefte should Ridvan Yilmaz move on. Flynn Downes There's no doubt Martin would love to have Downes at Ibrox as his number six and midfield orchestrator. ‌ The former West Ham kid was an integral part of his Southampton team who got promoted to the Premier League when he was on loan at St Mary's. But that deal was made permanent for a huge £12 million fee so it will be difficult - and expensive - to lure him to Ibrox. Nico Raskin ‌ The Belgian midfielder is one of the few genuinely valuable assets in the Rangers squad Martin has taken on. Especially now that he's an established international player in the Red Devils' side alongside the likes of Kevin de Bruyne. Gers will be braced for summer bids for Raskin but if Martin is assessing what he's got in the building, he will surely be determined to ensure the 24-year-old stays in Govan. ‌ Metinho Rangers were heavily linked with Metinho even before Martin was appointed so might well be a player on Thelwell's list of targets. The Troyes midfielder has impressed on loan at Swiss club Basel and is a box-to-box player who would fit perfectly into Martin's style of play. ‌ He grew up in Rio de Janeiro and has been dubbed the Brazilian Paul Pogo. At just 22 he's got the potential to be a poser boy for Rangers' new player trading model. Oscar Cortes ‌ At his unveiling, Martin was keen to point out that he's going to give current Rangers players a chance to impress. He says he's ready to be surprised by certain individuals. Colombian winger Cortes would certainly fall into that category. A £4million buy from Lens, he's struggled to make an impact at Ibrox due to injury. ‌ But he's now fully fit and the new boss likes to play with wide players. He might just unlock Cortes' quality. Dor Turgeman Rangers and Martin are very keen on the Israeli front-man to spearhead their attack ahead of the new season. ‌ Turgeman bagged 20 goals for Maccabi Tel Aviv as they won the title last term and has loads of admirers around Europe. Martin wanted him at Southampton and has now reignited his interest at Ibrox. At around £4 million, he'd be a statement signing for the new regime. ‌ With Vaclav Cerny not returning to Ibrox after his successful loan stint, Rangers need a right winger - especially with the way Martin wants to see his team play. And given the new ownership's links to Leeds United - via Paraag Marathe and the 49ers - Harrison is someone they could look at. He spent last season at Everton in the Premier League on loan but has now returned to Elland Road. If he's not part of Daniel Farke's plans in England's top flight, Ibrox could be his next destination. Substitutes: Liam Kelly, John Souttar, Jefte, Mohamed Diomande, Joe Aribo, Cyriel Dessers, Hamza Igamane, Jamie Vardy

Club World Cup, Saudi money, PSR and No 9s: The factors driving the summer transfer market

Over the three days around the Champions League final in Munich, in hotels like the £900-a-night Rosewood, a number of intense meetings were taking place. Security was tight, agents and club representatives were trying to find secluded corners. They were so close to the transfer window that a certain discretion was needed. At least one big deal was struck. For some in football, the regular season's games have stopped so the real business begins. A strand of modern fans might feel the same. Advertisement They are likely to be very engaged over the next few months, because there is going to be a lot of activity. This summer window is already unique in how we have an extra mini-window. The imposition of Fifa president Gianni Infantino's expanded Club World Cup has necessitated a new market spell up until the tournament, which begins on 14 June. While it has already seen Trent Alexander-Arnold go to Real Madrid in a £10m move that is no longer a Bosman, that is expected to be about the height of it. Cristiano Ronaldo is now staying at Al-Nassr, even if many in the game still openly wonder whether a way will be found to get him in Fifa's new showpiece tournament before it starts. That seems far-fetched right now. As it is, only minor deals are expected. This is because clubs are still more concerned about getting best value for targets rather than getting them in now. The Club World Cup isn't that important to them, despite how Infantino speaks about it. A far greater consideration for value is what the new PSR (profit and sustainability rules) world has done, and that it might be affected by this tournament. Those clubs who go the distance at the Club World Cup are going to win close to $100m (£74m). That might create market waves in the final weeks of the window. Real Madrid have rushed to sign defender Trent Alexander-Arnold in a £10m move from Liverpool before the Club World Cup (EPA) Another potential driving force of the window could be Saudi Pro League transfer escalation, especially since this is the first summer after the country was named host of the 2034 World Cup. They want to start making even more statement signings. Advertisement The interest in Bruno Fernandes is a start, one of a number of European stars who could move clubs this summer, along with teammate Marcus Rashford. The big one is currently Florian Wirtz, who is deciding between Liverpool and Bayern Munich, with Real Madrid looking on. It's where an extra £80m from the Club World Cup could be so influential. Liverpool are able to consider offering sums of well over £100m because they barely spent last year, meaning they have 'a lot of PSR headroom'. That is going to be one of the phrases of the summer. Some executives expect an extremely busy window due to 'PSR churn'. The view is that the rules force constant rotation and recycling in order to stay within the limits, due to the nature of contracts and amortisation. One consequence is that clubs feel forced into selling players they don't want to sell, or make transfers that aren't fully for football reasons. As such, clubs will end up with more mismatched squads. Advertisement Even those clubs who are highly supportive of the concept of PSR, or at least significant financial restraint, do not feel the regulations are fit for purpose in that sense. Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers has been linked with a move away – and Chelsea are actively trying to seal a deal for the flourishing talent (PA) A classic example might be Morgan Rogers. Aston Villa absolutely wouldn't want to sell such a burgeoning star, but their high wage bill may force a rethink without Champions League football. On the other side, Mikel Arteta wants to keep Jakub Kiwior given how he proved himself such a useful squad player towards the end of the season. If he is trying to complete his first XI to win a title, though, that is exactly the kind of player that might have to make way in order to boost spending power. Advertisement 'PSR churn' is understood to have been one of the reasons that Andrea Berta was appointed sporting director at Arsenal, due to his ample experience of the market. He has worked for Atletico Madrid through windows of wildly different nature, be they years when they had money, years when they didn't, or years when they had to get creative. That sort of skill has never been needed more. Other executives are known to relish this challenge. One relatively new owner to the Premier League is said to have become 'addicted' to player trading, and loves the back and forth of it. Arsenal are among a few major clubs that are expected to sign at least four players, along with Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United. Newcastle United are more emboldened after qualifying for the Champions League. With Chelsea, you can take high activity as a given. They are actively trying to get Rogers done now, and you only have to look at how they are swooping for Ipswich Town's Liam Delap. He had been widely expected to go to Manchester United, who may now need to look elsewhere for a striker. The search for No 9s is another key theme this summer. Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres are wanted men (Getty) There might be an element of musical chairs. While the game does now have more strikers than a few years ago, they are still at a premium. All of Chelsea, Arsenal and United see the position as their main priority. Liverpool may look, too, but they are currently seeking to complete business in other areas first. Advertisement The names standing out in all analyses are Delap, Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, Sporting's Viktor Gyokeres and Eintracht Frankfurt's Hugo Ekitike. Who gets their first choice may dictate the next moves, and all the way down. United, for example, are understood to have gone cooler on Gyokeres since January. They may now have to go back in strong given Delap's decision, but could face competition from Arsenal… if they don't press ahead with Sesko. Leipzig and Sporting are two of those clubs whose model is built on selling high, and it is something that may have even further influence on the Premier League's market. Bournemouth willingly want to sell some of their season's stars, including Antoine Semenyo. That's now the model, as we've seen with Dean Huijsen going to Real Madrid. Crystal Palace's Europa League qualification does change things there. They always drive a hard bargain but have developed in a similar way. There is naturally interest in a series of their players, through Marc Guehi, Adam Wharton, Daniel Munoz, Jean-Philippe Mateta and – above all – Eberechi Eze. A European run will see a few be more willing to give it another season. Eze may not quite have that luxury, since a few clubs have previously demurred to his age. At 26, it's now or never. Eze seizing the moment in the FA Cup is now making Tottenham Hotspur really consider a move. Whether they have competition may depend on a number of other factors. This may be another busy summer – but the number of variables is unprecedented.
