Libyan PM Dbeibah offers $70 billion economic partnership to US President's advisor
Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah met on Wednesday in Tripoli with the advisor to the US President Donald Trump for African affairs, Massad Boulos, to discuss opportunities for joint cooperation in the fields of energy, minerals, infrastructure, healthcare, and telecommunications. According to the Prime Minister's media office, Dbeibah emphasized the National Unity Government's keenness to build economic partnerships with the US that would pave the way for major American companies to participate in development and investment projects. The office added that the Libyan government team presented a detailed proposal outlining strategic economic partnership opportunities worth approximately $70 billion. These include ready-to-launch projects in the sectors of energy, minerals, electricity, infrastructure, and telecommunications, providing a structured and direct pathway for US investment in the Libyan market. The meeting also addressed recent developments in Libya's oil sector, particularly regarding new opportunities in both offshore and onshore blocks, as well as ongoing efforts to boost transparency and achieve sustainable returns within a stable energy framework. Discussions extended to the Palestinian issue, as Dbeibah - according to his media office - strongly condemned the crimes, starvation, and ongoing aggression faced by the Palestinian people in Gaza. Dbeibah also stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, lifting of the blockade, and protection of civilians from the ravages of war. Meanwhile, Boulos expressed the US administration's support for stability efforts in Libya, reaffirming Washington's interest in continuing coordination and expanding areas of cooperation with the National Unity Government. Boulos arrived in Tripoli earlier on Wednesday as part of a visit aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation and exploring prospects for strategic partnership between the two countries.

Tunisian president shows photos of starving Palestinian children to US envoy during visit
Tunisian President Kais Saied greeted the US senior adviser for Arab, Middle Eastern and African affairs at Carthage Palace in Tunis with photos of starving Palestinian children in Gaza, saying it was "time for all of humanity to wake up". In a video posted by Tunisian news network Carthage, a sombre-looking Saeid can be seen welcoming and shaking hands with a smiling Massad Boulos, declaring in Arabic' "Now my conversation is with you and directed to you about a number of issues that concern us and the whole world", in a short clip of the video translated by Middle East Monitor. "I believe you know these photos well," he said, showing the Lebanese-American Boulos a photo of a toddler holding a silver bowl of sand. "A child crying, eating sand in occupied Palestine." 'This is one image among many others,' Saied added. 'Eating sand in the 21st century. He found nothing to eat. And with sand in his hand." He then showed billionaire businessman Boulos an image of an emaciated child, whose neck and head are being supported by someone's hand. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters 'Another image of a child on the verge of dying because he couldn't find anything to eat. And surely, you have many other images. This is absolutely unacceptable. This is a crime against humanity.' The camera then cut to a third image of a child with sunken eyes who was also emaciated. 'A child on the verge of death, also nearly dying of hunger. And he may already have passed away.' Saied continued to show more harrowing photos to Boulos - including three Palestinian men carrying children wrapped in white shrouds - while Boulos stood with his hands clasped, silently nodding. At one point Saied told Boulos that "international legitimacy was crumbling day by day". Boulos - whose son is married to US President Donald Trump's daughter Tiffany - is in the region to make his first official visit to Libya on Wednesday amid rising tensions in the capital city Tripoli and neighbouring Sudan, as reported by Middle East Eye earlier this month. More than 100 humanitarian organisations warned on Wednesday that "mass famine" was spreading in the Gaza Strip after Israel blocked humanitarian aid from entering in early March and has been providing woefully inadequate aid via the controversial US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Fund since the end of May. MEE reported on Tuesday that renowned expert on famine, Professor Alex de Waal, accused Israel of 'genocidal starvation' of Palestinians in Gaza with its continued deadly siege on the enclave. Over 100 humanitarian groups sound alarm on starvation of staff in Gaza Read More » At least 101 Palestinians, including 80 children, have died of starvation since Israel's blockade resumed in March, including 15 who died of malnutrition on Monday, according to the Palestinian health ministry. Meanwhile, more than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed while seeking aid at distribution sites run by the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, in place since May and manned by Israeli soldiers and US security contractors. De Waal told MEE's live show on Tuesday that the UN is not in a position to declare famine due to Israel's obstruction of access to humanitarians and investigators who could gauge the extent of hunger. However, he said, 'it is actually relatively straightforward if you are perpetrating a famine to shut out access to essential information and then say no one has declared famine'. 'Concealment of famine is an instrument of those who perpetrate it,' he added. De Waal said that famine is unfolding in Gaza in 'a wholly predicted manner'. De Waal is executive director of the World Peace Foundation, affiliated with the Fletcher School of Global Affairs at Tufts University, and the author of Mass Starvation: The History and Future of Famine. He explained that a healthy adult will take 60 to 80 days of total deprivation of food to die of starvation. With semi-starvation, it would take a lot longer.

Tunisian president shows Trump adviser images of starving Gaza children
Tunisian President Kais Saied presented US counterpart Donald Trump's senior Africa adviser with photographs of starving children in Gaza, official video of their meeting posted late on Tuesday showed. Saied told US envoy Massad Boulos, who is also the father-in-law of Trump's daughter Tiffany, that "it is time for all of humanity to wake up and put an end to these crimes against the Palestinian people." "I believe you know these images well," Saied was seen telling the envoy as he showed a photograph of what he described as "a child crying, eating sand in occupied Palestine." Saied showed Boulos several more images, saying that Palestinians in Gaza were subjected to crimes against humanity. Israel is facing mounting international pressure over the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory, where more than two million people have endured 21 months of devastating conflict. "It is absolutely unacceptable," Saied was heard saying as Boulos stood silently, occasionally nodding. "It is a crime against all of humanity." More than 100 aid organisations warned on Wednesday that "mass starvation" was spreading across the Gaza Strip and that their own colleagues were suffering acutely from the shortages. The head of Gaza's largest hospital said on Tuesday that 21 children had died from malnutrition and starvation in the Palestinian territory in the previous three days. Israel says humanitarian aid is being allowed into Gaza and accuses Hamas of exploiting civilian suffering, including by stealing food handouts to sell at inflated prices or shooting at those awaiting aid. Following his visit to Tunisia, Boulos flew on to the Libyan capital Tripoli on Wednesday, Tunisian media reported. Agence France-Presse

Tunisian President Slams Trump Adviser over Gaza Famine
Rabat — As Israel-induced inhumane starvation keeps taking lives of innocent Gazans, and turning the genocide-torn city into a cluster of thin, air-filled bodies, Tunisian President Kais Saied stood up to confront US President Donald Trump's advisor for Africa with photos of starving children in the enclave. Showing the photos to Massad Boulos, who is on a regional tour, Saied described the situation as a 'crime against all of humanity' and urged the international community to take action. Echoing the voices of thousands of civilians and children starving as the world is watching, Saied argued to Boulos that 'these children are dying in agony.' Images and videos of emaciated young faces have been circulating on social media platforms, with netizens decrying the horrifying, dire situation as the world of politicians is just signing joint statements. Presenting Trump's advisor a photo of a child crying while eating sand, the Tunisian president told him: 'I believe you've seen these before.' Saied's remarks come as humanitarian organizations sound the alarm. Over a hundred aid groups warned Wednesday that Gaza is on the brink of a mass human-made famine. The warning follows reports from a Gaza hospital that 21 children died of hunger or malnutrition in just three days. 'This is completely unacceptable,' Saied said, standing across from Boulos, who remained silent with his arms folded. 'It's time for the world to wake up and put an end to these crimes.' The US-backed Israeli authorities launched a border closure on March 2, denying entry of food and aid to the enclave. Israel strategically blocks prfood and aid as a weapon, forcing Gazans to either succumb to famine and die in silence or risk their lives under Israeli Occupation Forces' (IOF) attacks on food distribution points. Palestinian Medical sources indicated that 10 civilians died during the last 24 hours due to famine and malnutrition in Gaza, bringing the number to 111 starvation-related deaths, including 25 children in the last three days. In the face of Israel's atrocities, the world is silently watching as civilians die, not only from bombings, but also from starvation. Tags: GazaGaza starvationIsraelkais saiedTunisia

Tunisian president shows Boulos photos of starving Gaza children: ‘They are in agony'
Tunisian President Kais Saied showed photos of starving children in Gaza to Massad Boulos, the Lebanese-American Africa advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, telling him that 'it is time for all of humanity to wake up.' They are "in agony," he said. 'I believe you know these photos well. A crying child, eating sand in occupied Palestine,' Saied said to Boulos, according to a video published Tuesday evening on the presidency's Facebook page. The Tunisian head of state showed several other photos to the U.S. presidential adviser of skeletal children 'in agony,' as he described. More than a hundred humanitarian organizations warned on Wednesday that 'mass famine' is spreading in the Gaza Strip, which Israel has been pummelling with bombs for more than 21 months. The day before, one Gaza hospital announced that 21 children had died from malnutrition or hunger in the Palestinian territory within 72 hours. 'This is absolutely unacceptable," Saied said. "This is a crime against all of humanity.' Boulos stood across from him with his hands folded, listening. 'It is time for all of humanity to wake up and put an end to these crimes against the Palestinian people.' Israel, which has been imposing a total blockade of the Gaza Strip since October 2023, claims there is no famine at this stage and denies blocking humanitarian aid, while refusing to allow any to enter for more than two months straight, from March until May. Israel accuses Hamas of stealing food and reselling food despite failing to provide any evidence to back this claim, and despite comments to the contrary by U.S. and U.N. officials. Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas are underway in Qatar, but have been stuck for a week now at the point of Israeli troop withdrawal. After Tunisia, Boulos, who is also the father of Donald Trump's son-in-law, arrived on Wednesday in Tripoli, according to a Libyan TV channel.
