Strength in every sip: Preparing for a stronger tomorrow

In a bid to deepen understanding around kids' nutrition, with a special focus on building strength during the foundational years of childhood, Bournvita, in collaboration with The Times of India, organised 'Tayyari Taakat Ki.' The engaging and informative event was held at Taj Lands End, Bandra, on 18th June 2025, bringing together mothers and mothers from across the country. Redefining strength The event opened with a panel discussion on: 'Why is strength so important among growing kids in India?, moderated by Mandira Bedi, who is a fitness enthusiast, actor and a symbol of strength herself. The panel featured Namrata Purohit, nutritionist; Dr Nihar Parekh, pediatrician; Nitika Vig, senior specialist, nutrition strategy, Mondelez International; and Farha Shaikh, a mom blogger. Dr. Parekh emphasised the importance of micronutrients such as vitamin D, iron and zinc, which are vital for immunity, as well as physical and mental strength. He also spoke about the significance of the morning milk ritual, noting that it not only provides essential nutrients but also ensures children start their day with a healthy and filling drink. Dr Nikita Vig added that recent surveys show how many kids fall short on Vitamin D, iron, and zinc, and explained how Bournvita is designed to help bridge these gaps and can be a good option to give these essential nutrients. Panelists agreed that height and weight are not the sole indicators of a child's development, and that strength, in all its forms, is equally important. They addressed concerns around sugar and pointed out that kids need sugar in moderation along with a balanced diet and active lifestyle. Shaikh shared her personal story of encouraging her child to take up ballet to build strength, while Purohit highlighted the importance of sleep, physical activity and nutrition, and advocated for creating a positive relationship with food, making nutritious meals enjoyable and sustainable for kids. The chief guest of the event, Maharashtra's minister of public health and family welfare, Prakash Abitkar, delivered an address on the importance of building strength in kids. He highlighted that the early years are crucial for laying the foundation for nutrition, and emphasised the role of parents in making sure children receive balanced, nutrient-rich diets. Playful learning After a networking lunch, the event transitioned into hands-on activities to empower mothers with practical nutrition knowledge. Taakat ki masterclass: Chef Smit Sagar led a session on nutritious eating, inviting moms on stage to prepare chocolate balls using wholesome ingredients like dark chocolate, coconut, nuts and dry fruits. Strength bingo: In this fun, knowledge-based game, mothers answered questions about testing their knowledge of strength and marked their bingo cards accordingly to win the game. Nutricheck corner: Moms entered their children's daily meals to a digital portal to receive personalised reports on nutritional intake, identifying gaps and areas for improvement. Every member participates in each activity that was conducted. The event also featured a 'Pledge Wall,' where mothers wrote down and displayed their commitments to their children's nutrition. The event concluded with mothers feeling more informed and confident about supporting their child's strength and holistic development. Palak Tiwari reveals how her mother Shweta Tiwari stays fit; says ‘She doesn't do anything'

Palak Tiwari , daughter of popular actress Shweta Tiwari , recently opened up about her mother's much-admired fitness and how it often leaves even Shweta amused. In an interview with Mashable India, Palak revealed, 'My mom is most shocked when people talk about her fitness. My mom doesn't go to the gym, doesn't do anything. She doesn't do anything to take care of herself. She is like, 'I don't know why people keep saying such things.'' Unlike her mother, Palak admits that staying fit requires conscious effort for her. 'I go to the gym, I am not as blessed as my mom. I work out five days a week. I do cardio,' she shared. Beyond fitness, Palak also spoke about the immense strength and support she receives from her mother. She said, 'My mom being an overachiever takes the pressure off me. In my family, we have the heritage of strong women. My nani, then my mom, and all the elder women in the family are overachievers. My nani was a clerk at a law office. She was very intelligent. When my mom wanted to pursue acting, everyone was against her but my nani supported her. That reduces the pressure. Adding a fun childhood memory, Palak recalled, 'My mom's eyes are enough to scare me. She only slapped me once. I was very fussy about eating. One time, instead of drinking my Bournvita, I let our dog Tobby lick it. My mom slapped me hard, but that was the first and last time. She was scared of her nail extension and Tobby also got stressed.' The delightful old-world dhaba

I had a chance to visit an American diner recently. The skillets consisted of huge portions of hash browns with our choice of eggs. There were options of various types of meat as main and side dishes for the non-vegetarians. For the eggetarians and vegetarians, there was a vegetarian skillet. Unlimited American coffee kept flowing. The price and size of the meal reminded me of our very own once-ubiquitous dhaba. As children, during school holidays, we accompanied our father on his tours to interior towns in Bihar and Jharkhand. Our journey in a closed jeep took us through thick dark jungles such as the Danua and Bhalua jungles near Barhi. There were dhabas strategically situated in various points along the way. A stop at the dhaba was a sojourn in culinary heaven for us. My mother loved the singharas and special chai, and my father loved the ghee roti served with moong dal tadka, raw onion and green chillies. We children loved them all, though not so much the chillies. The food was fresh and hot, and the rotis came straight from the tawa to our plates. We watched the singharas bubble in oil and marvelled at the skill of the chef turning the singharas with consummate ease. Sometimes, they made jalebis, a fascinating process, as the chef squeezed batter into the hot oil with a turn of his wrist, much like a dancer's hand mudra. I tasted Irani chai later in Hyderabad, but the chai at the dhaba was out of this world. It was a rare treat for me, as at home, it was always Bournvita for us. It was interesting to see the other travellers resting on the charpoys spread outside. The truck drivers sometimes talked with our driver who later told us of the various States in India they hailed from. They all universally loved the food. My father liked talking to them in his heavily accented South Indian Hindi. We siblings were afraid they would laugh at him, but they never did. It has been half a century since those travels, but we agree that we have not tasted food more delicious than that at the dhabas there. My mother says she is still looking for those singharas and that special chai. The fragrance of the rotis baking on the tawa and the no-masala dal tadka is fresh in my memory and has pepped me up during some of the more difficult times of my life. Modern-day dhabas do not seem to hold the same charm. Today's youngsters have a wide choice of comfort food such as pizza, donuts, pakoras, ice-cream, and rolls, but I wonder whether these rival the delightful taste of the simple old dhaba fare.

Agencies Palak Tiwari recently spoke about how being raised in a family of strong-willed women has deeply influenced her outlook on life. Palak Tiwari, an emerging talent in the Hindi film industry, recently reflected on how her upbringing in a household full of determined women has profoundly shaped her perspective and career path. In an interview with Mashable India , the young actress candidly discussed the pivotal role her mother, television star Shweta Tiwari, has played in her life. Being raised by a woman who has excelled despite numerous challenges has not only inspired Palak but also helped ease some of the pressures typically faced by newcomers in the entertainment to a lineage of fiercely independent and capable women, Palak acknowledged that the legacy of resilience passed down through generations has made her journey feel less burdensome. She recalled that her maternal grandmother, a smart and dedicated woman who worked as a clerk in a law office, was instrumental in supporting her mother's dreams. At a time when the idea of pursuing a career in acting faced disapproval within the family, her grandmother stood firm behind Shweta's ambitions. This unwavering support system, Palak explained, gave her the confidence to believe that her own dreams would always be backed by love and encouragement at influence of Shweta's strength and determination was not just limited to her career. Palak shared a light-hearted anecdote from her childhood that showcased her mother's disciplinary but caring nature. As a child, she often refused to eat her meals and would create unnecessary fuss. During one such incident, their family dog, Tobby, ended up licking a cup of Bournvita that Palak was supposed to drink. This led to the only time Shweta ever hit her, more out of frustration than anger. But Palak recalled it with amusement, noting that even their dog was startled by the outburst. That moment, marked by laughter and fear, remains etched in her memory as a symbol of her mother's gentle strictness and deep love. Shweta Tiwari, celebrated for her portrayal of Prerna in Kasautii Zindagii Kay, has built an enduring television career marked by critical acclaim and personal strength. Her journey through professional triumphs and personal hurdles has long served as a beacon for her daughter.
