Bradford College wins annual award for use of digital technology

Bradford College's use of digital technology has won it a 'College of the Year' award. The college's Learning, Development, and Innovation team was honoured with the accolade at the Edufuturists Awards 2025 - whose ceremony was held in Manchester - for its use of digital technology to enhance student learning. The team's efforts include hosting dedicated staff development days for digital upskilling. Bradford College also has an immersive classroom and a ClassView system for "connecting learners across the country." According to a spokesperson for the college, "the team has designed bespoke VR content to support student-led learning, raising engagement and access for SEND and ESOL learners." Thirty-thousand public nomination votes were cast this year for the Edufuturists Awards, with these, as well as a judging panel, determining the winners in the various categories. Monika Worthington, learning innovation lead and Microsoft certified educator at Bradford College, said: "We are proud to lead the way in pioneering educational practices and technologies that prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow. "Our approach centres around accessibility, inclusion, and personalisation. "Technology has enabled us to remove learning barriers, adapt teaching to suit individual needs, and offer students engaging, immersive experiences." Bradford College is recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School for the 2024/2025 academic year.

Drighlington apprentice named Inspirational Student of the Year

An apprentice at a Drighlington property compliance firm has won two awards for being an inspirational student. Faye Oxley, 19, who works for Inspectas, won the Business Admin Subject Student of the Year and Inspirational Student of the Year awards at the Bradford College Star Awards. The awards, which cover all areas of the college, see tutors and teachers nominating students who they feel have gone above and beyond. Faye's awards were presented to her by Bradford City players Lewis Richards and Zac Hadi on April 29 at an event at the college. Faye's tutor, Dawn Middleton, said she nominated Faye because she "exemplifies a distinction student," with an eye for detail, a thirst for knowledge, and a high standard of professionalism. She said: "Faye demonstrates the ability to self-assess her work and looks to constantly stretch and challenge herself." Faye's work includes a British Sign Language (BSL) project, which includes suggestions for training staff in BSL. Faye joined Inspectas in 2024 as a business and administration apprentice and is set to complete her apprenticeship in July. She has been offered a permanent role on the team. Faye said: "I am both honoured and grateful to have received these awards from Bradford College." More information is available at

Man shortlisted for next year's WorldSkills in joinery category

A joiner whose career in the industry began at Bradford College has been shortlisted for a chance to represent 'Squad UK' at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. Ahmed Shakir's journey as a joiner started with Bradford College back in 2021, when he enrolled onto a Carpentry & Joinery course and progressed through both Level 1 and 2. Following this, in 2023, he began his apprenticeship at Bradford-based Abrahams & Carlisle. Mr Shakir now joins an intensive 18-month training programme with the end goal of competing against other young tradespeople at what will be the 48th instalment of the WorldSkills competition, which is set to take place in September of 2026. Mr Shakir said: "I'm delighted to have made it into the Squad UK joinery category, alongside three other competitors! "The training programme will be intense, but I know it will push me to be the best I can be. "I'm excited for the challenge ahead!" The global event is intended to be a platform for showcasing excellence and driving up standards in vocational education and training. Bradford College scoops award for Shakespeare-inspired ESOL provision

Bradford College has won a national award for its English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) provision, which the college has developed in partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company. The college was named the winner of the Bell Foundation Award for Excellence in ESOL at the 2025 Association of Colleges' Beacon Awards. ESOL at Bradford College is structured around Shakespeare's works, and around 235 learners engaged with the project last year. Students learn about plays, performance, and language to develop their English skills. According to a spokesperson, "students learn about themselves, their new community, and English heritage in a positive and engaging way that instils pride." Sarah Towan, vice principal for recruitment and communications at Bradford College, said: "We are delighted that staff and students' hard work, and outstanding innovation in learning, has been recognised. "The Beacon awards showcase the very best education has to offer in the UK, so this is testament to our college's fierce ambition to do the very best for our community. "It was incredible that two Bradford College initiatives were selected as finalists, but to have one win and be recognised as being at the forefront of education excellence is exceptional. "Well done to all involved." More information is available at

T Level engineering students to benefit from Bradford College suite

A new "industry-standard" engineering suite has opened at Bradford College's Trinity Green Campus. The facility is the result of a collaboration between Bradford College and the Bradford-based Metalcraft Group, a metal fabrication and engineering company. The partnership aims to provide T Level engineering students with a wider range of experiences, opportunities, and equipment. T Levels are two-year qualifications available after GCSEs, designed so that businesses can teach skills and knowledge. They feature a 45-day work placement with an employer, like Metalcraft Group, providing the chance for industry experience while studying. Stephen Smith, Bradford College head of engineering, said: "We are delighted to be partnered with Metalcraft Group. "This represents a major step forward for our T Level provision. "Through our work with this reputable Bradford-based company, students will benefit from unprecedented access to real-world engineering expertise and facilities." The refurbished room at Trinity Green was designed and equipped by Metalcraft, and showcases prototype examples of the contractor's precision engineering. In addition to the speciality suite, the partnership will also secure placement and visit opportunities for Bradford College T Level students to gain hands-on experience with an engineering firm. One of Metalcraft Group's owners, CEO Nathan Varley, said: "We want to help empower the youth of Bradford going forward. "The talent's definitely there in Bradford, and the combination of both practical and classroom environments at college can really unearth these individuals." Rob Oldroyd, general manager at Metalcraft Precision Engineering (a Metalcraft Group branch), added: "This joint effort with Bradford College will provide an insight into the future talent available and hopefully contribute to creating some of the next generation of engineering experts." The T Level in 'Engineering: Design & Development' is a gateway qualification into engineering and product development. According to a spokesperson, "the course blends classroom learning with real-world experience to give the skills needed to design, test, and create innovative products. "Students learn engineering principles, design techniques, and manufacturing processes to understand how products go from concept to production."
