Kelly Clarkson describes her dating life as a 'dumpster fire' as she opens up on romance years after messy divorce

has explained the reason she refuses to date, as she opened up on her faltering love life years after divorcing ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. The singer, 43, who was joined by daughter River Rose, 11, on stage during her Friday night show in Las Vegas, told the audience why she is still single. In a TikTok video recorded during her residency at Caesars Palace, she explained: 'Dating can be very difficult which is why I don't.' Kelly then compared dating in the spotlight to a 'dumpster fire'. The singer married her former manager Brandon in 2013 and soon welcomed their daughter and then son, Remington, nine. The pair split in 2020 and finalized their divorce two years later after a lengthy court battle over finances, property, and child custody. Kelly won full primary custody of her kids and moved to New York City. She told USA Today in 2023: 'I knew I needed a fresh start and couldn't be in LA. I really wanted to be in Montana, but you can't really do a show from there quite yet. So I was like, "The only other option would probably be New York".' At a show in Atlantic City in May, the singer got real with her audience, sharing that difficult relationships seemed to be a family tradition. Kelly's parents divorced when she was six. She said: 'We learn from our parents, [who] learn from their parents. We keep repeating the same horrible s*** over and over. Now, it turns out that I chose the same f***ing path.'

Kelly Clarkson's Next Act? Why a Major Career Shift Might Be on the Horizon

Kelly Clarkson celebrated 1,000 episodes of The Kelly Clarkson Show this spring, but the huge milestone didn't go down exactly the way she planned. With ex-husband Brandon Blackstock's reported health issues, Clarkson missed a series of shows, utilizing guest hosts to fill in . As a single mom with two children to raise, daughter River Rose, 10, and son Remington, 9, the 43-year-old pop star is reportedly reassessing her priorities. The 'demanding' daytime TV schedule is something she may want to put behind her. More from SheKnows Kelly Clarkson Reportedly 'Lost the Respect' of Her Staff With Her Latest Career Move 'She's thinking that she might need a shift next year when her contract is up,' a source told People. 'She still has time to figure out what's best for her career and family. She was never one to rush into things.' Her passion is music, and that's where she would love to keep her focus despite the recent postponement of her Las Vegas residency due to laryngitis. 'She very much loves music, though, and would love to create new music,' the insider added. Clarkson's pending decision has reportedly left her staff 'stressed' over the possibility that they might lose their jobs after the 2025-26 television season. 'Not feeling too stable,' a crew member told the Daily Mail. 'She could bolt at any time. Where does that leave me?' At a May 9 Atlantic City concert, Clarkson hinted that juggling multiple jobs was hard. 'We haven't done a show in a while, y'all, 'because I have a talk show,' she told the New Jersey audience, via Page Six. 'It's like a whole other job. We are bummed 'because we love doing shows, and it's hard to fit it in, so it's cool when it does work out with the schedule, and it's cool to get to see your faces and feed off y'all.' The decision lies in Clarkson's hands as she tests the musical waters again with her residency and spends more time with her kids over the summer. The future daytime landscape may look much different if Clarkson exits the building. Before you go, click to see 19 facts about Kelly Clarkson you didn't already know. Clarkson officially kicked off her much-awaited Vegas residency last Friday - just one week after angering fans by canceling shows last minute. Along with performing hits for the crowd, the star also apologized for canceling the opening two shows of her residency. In a TikTok video taken by a concertgoer, Clarkson expressed, 'Man, I'm so sorry if some of y'all had [tickets to] last weekend's shows. 'I'm so sorry. We can't help our bodies sometimes, and that happens, but thank you for showing up. We're so excited.' Kelly previously took to Instagram just 90 minutes before her first scheduled show and explained she was 'devastated' to postpone the concerts following grueling rehearsals. Clarkson penned to her fans in a statement: 'We have been working 24/7 to make Studio Sessions the most intimate and extraordinary experience with and for my incredible fans.' 'I am beyond grateful that you always show up for me and I am devastated to have to postpone tonight and tomorrow's opening at Caesars.' Kelly said that both the 'prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice' and that she wants 'the shows to be perfect for y'all.' She added, 'I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.' 'The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong.' In conclusion, the star wrote, 'I can't wait to be back next weekend and show y'all what we've been working on.' Only a few hours before the shock announcement, Clarkson had uploaded behind-the-scenes photos of herself preparing for the residency with the caption, 'TONIGHT!!' Fans were left 'bummed' over the sudden cancelation while others offered words of support to the Because of You singer in the comment section. One penned, 'Totally bummed that we flew all the way to Vegas only to find out that the show was cancelled 1 1/2 hours prior to show time. So so sad!!' and another added, 'I'm outside the doors,' followed by crying face emojis. The performer announced her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace earlier this year in February. It came after she hosted a residency at Planet Hollywood Resort from 2023-2024. This year's residency had been slated to kick off on Fourth of July followed by another performance the next day. Clarkson is currently co-parenting with ex-husband Blackstock. She and the talent exec were married for nearly seven years before she filed for divorce in June 2020, which was finalized in 2022.

The Kelly Clarkson Show host, 43, surprised fans at her Studio Sessions residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas on Friday, July 18, with a special guest — her 11-year-old daughter — who came onto the stage to sing a duet with her. Videos shared on X show the mother-daughter duo singing Clarkson's 'Heartbeat Song' in similar outfits, a black T-shirt with sparkly bedazzled words and pants. The pair can be seen dancing and swaying while holding microphones. At certain moments during the performance, Clarkson sweetly encouraged and hugged her daughter — whom she shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock — as they sang together. River Rose held her earpiece before really getting lost in the performance. The fan who shared the video online also revealed what Clarkson told the audience before the duet: 'So my daughter, River Rose, said to me, 'I wanna sing tonight!' ' This isn't the first time the mother-daughter pair has performed the track, as Clarkson previously brought her daughter onstage to sing 'Heartbeat Song' during a Las Vegas concert in August 2023. Clarkson noted at the time that River Rose had been 'jamming out to the song since she was a baby' and 'loves this song so much.' She also shared that her daughter asked if she could come onstage and sing it with her. The pair wore matching dresses — with Clarkson in black and River Rose in white — for that performance. The Grammy winner isn't afraid to integrate her two kids — she also shares 9-year-old son Remington "Remy" with Blackstock — into her shows. She previously gave them a shout-out during her July 12 concert. "Y'all, I do have to say that I love that I'm probably embarrassing my kids. They're like, 'Stop talking.' I hope y'all have fun. I am completely going to embarrass you with things that I say — you're welcome, it builds character," she told the crowd.
