The first reactions for 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' are in and they're overwhelmingly positive

(Image credit: Photo courtesy of 20th Century Studios / Marvel Studios) "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" comes out later this week, marking the next installment in the MCU. But a select few already saw the movie at an exclusive Los Angeles premiere. The good news? Those who saw the movie have come away impressed. The vast majority of social media reactions have been positive, with one person even going as far as to say it's visually " one of the best things Marvel has ever made" (h/t Brandon Davis on X). Clearly, the choice to remove John Malkovich's Red Ghost from the movie paid off, or at least it hasn't seemed to hurt the movie. Nor has pushing this movie back multiple times to give director Matt Shakman and the rest of the crew ample time to get things right. You may like Full disclosure: Take these reactions with a grain of salt. While some critics are throwing their opinions in the mix, it's largely influencers, superfans and those most inclined to give the movie positive buzz who are posting these early reactions. There's nothing nefarious about it, but they also don't always represent the final critical or audience consensus around the film. So without further ado, here are some of the first reactions from the premiere of "The Fantastic Four: First Steps." 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' first reactions — 'a genre-defining classic' The Fantastic Four: First Steps | Final Trailer | Only in Theaters July 25 - YouTube Watch On I know I just told you to temper expectations, but let's start with some potential hyperbole right out of the gate. "#FantasticFour Quite possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever released," writer George McKay unequivocally stated on X. "Thoughtfully crafted and easily a genre-defining classic." Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. #FantasticFour Quite possibly the best Marvel Studios film ever released. Absolutely loaded with talent and standout performances from Vanessa Kirby and Joseph Quinn. If you thought the MCU died with Endgame, think again. Thoughtfully crafted and easily a genre-defining classic 19, 2025 While not quite so declarative about the movie's standing in the MCU pantheon, People Magazine writer Sharareh Drury had plenty of praise for the film. "Stunning visuals, a moving story, witty banter and epic action," she declared. "Marvel's First Family delivers one awesome ride." Saw #TheFantasticFour today - it's breathtaking! Stunning visuals, a moving story, witty banter and epic action. Marvel's First Family delivers one awesome ride. Pedro Pascal nails it as Mr. Fantastic. Vanessa Kirby stands out as Sue Storm - she's a shooting star. 💫July 19, 2025 Finally, let's wrap things up with my personal favorite. Content creator and actor Matt Ramos took to X to declare the movie's characters a delight. "The cast & their chemistry hold this film up," he posted. "Pedro delivered my favorite performance as Reed." #TheFantasticFour was AMAZING! The cast & their chemistry hold this film up. Pedro delivered my favorite performance as Reed. The score elevates every scene & is sooo prevalent. Galactus is perfectly adapted. This is a film with joy, heart, comedy & more. Solid 8/10. 22, 2025 And yet, for all that praise, the movie is merely a "Solid 8/10." Something about the shift from euphoric delight to tempered praise really summed things up neatly for me. I'm hopeful Marvel truly has hit the mark, but I'm keeping my expectations in check on this one. I'd gladly settle for "The Fantastic Four: First Steps" to be a solid eight out of 10. Early 'Superman' Reviews Turn Heads as Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Revealed

Although Superman doesn't hit theaters in wide release until Friday, July 11, those who bought their tickets through a special Amazon promotion will get to see the movie today, on Tuesday, July 8. And, for movie critics who have already seen the movie, tiny social media reviews have already indicated that this take on Superman just might be a crowd-pleaser. As reported by Variety, a handful of critics have sounded off on social media about their feelings about the new Superman reboot. "Bold yet faithful," wrote Bryan Sudfiel. Meanwhile, critic Brandon Davis said that the romantic chemistry between David Corenswet's Superman and Rachel Brosnahan's Lois Lane "is off the charts" in the movie. And now, the official Rotten Tomatoes score for the 2025 Superman has been revealed. According to Rotten Tomatoes, Superman has a high score of 90 percent right now. Historically, reviews of various Superman movies are all over the place. While 2013's Man of Steel holds a 57 percent score on RT from critics, it has a 75 percent score from general audiences. 2006's Superman Returns is basically the opposite; the critical score is 73 percent, and the audience score is 60. Only when we go further back in time to the 1978 classic, starring Christopher Reeve, does the audience perception and the critical perception of a Superman movie start to align. So yes, the critical score for Superman is a solid 90 percent. But the audience score won't be clear well into the weekend. In short, with this Superman movie, like several Superman movies before it, we should expect there to be some kind of general disagreement about its basic quality. There's a good chance the film will make a ton of money at the box office. Will everyone love it? That said, as of this writing, most formal reviews of the movie haven't been published. (Men's Journal will publish our review a bit later this evening.) But even when the reviews start trickling in, that doesn't mean the Rotten Tomatoes score will exist right away. Lindsay Lohan's oil heir ex Brandon Davis makes rare red carpet appearance with wife Ashley Benson

and her husband Brandon Davis got all dressed up to attend the Race to Erase MS gala. The annual gala is thrown by Brandon's mother Nancy Davis and attracts the who's who of Hollywood. Ashley, 35, put on a leggy display in a Veronica Beard black romper with a plunging neckline and belted waist. She wore her blonde hair down and parted on the side and chose black pumps for her shoes of the night. Her husband, an oil heir to his grandfather Marvin Davis' fortune, 45, looked suave in a black suit with a white shirt with the first button undone. The couple posed for pics with Nancy, who wore a gorgeous black gown and sequin jacket from designer Veronica Beard. The 32nd annual fundraising gala took place on May 16 at the Fairmont Century Plaza hotel. To top off the evening, guests enjoyed a beautiful dinner and can take part in a silent auction - as well as enjoy a fashion show from Veronica Beard. Robin Thicke provided the evening's entertainment. 'We are so thrilled and excited to have the talented Robin Thicke and A Great Big World entertaining our guests for the 32nd annual Race to Erase MS Gala,' Nancy Davis, the charity's founder, said. She continued: 'We are also looking forward to seeing the incredible styles by Veronica Beard on the runway for this year's fashion show.' Race to Erase MS was founded in 1993 by Nancy Davis, who was diagnosed with MS at only 33 years old. Davis, now 67, is dedicated to the treatment and ultimate cure of multiple sclerosis, striving to pool together recourses and research for the best chance of a cure. Funding research is the core focus of the foundation and significant strides have been made to find the cause and cure of this debilitating disease. The event has been instrumental in funding pilot studies that have contributed to drugs now on the market and other very important therapies that are improving the lives of people suffering from MS. Brandon - who notoriously called Lindsay Lohan 'firecrotch' in 2006 after they dated - was previously romantically linked to The O.C. alum Mischa Barton, socialite Brittny Gastineau, and hotel heiress Paris Hilton. Ashley and Brandon are the parents of daughter Aspen, 15 months. The Pretty Little Liars star shared a sweet Valentine's Day message for her baby on Instagram. She shared a photo of Aspen with a strawberry emoji concealing her face as she was getting glam by pro make-up artist Laura Bueno. 'From the moment you came into my life, everything changed in the most beautiful way,' Ashley - who boasts 33.3M social media followers - gushed. 'Your smile is infectious and your little spunky personality makes me laugh every single day. I have never loved anything as much as I love you. Waking up to you every day is the best gift I have ever received. My forever best friend and my little girl.' Benson currently plays Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh's fictional love interest Cindy in Mike Ott's psychological thriller McVeigh, which hit limited US theaters and VOD on March 21. The terrorist drama currently has a 71% critic approval rating (out of 17 reviews) on Rotten Tomatoes, and the Spring Breakers alum joined the project six years before they filmed it. 'Mike brought [Cindy] in there to just kind of show a different side of Timothy and to kind of show that he is a human being with feelings and he's yearning for a connection with someone,' Ashley told JoBlo last month. 'It was really nice how those scenes played out because there's a lot of quietness and there's a lot of storytelling through me and Alfie's eyes looking at each other and just showing that there is a softer side to him. '[Plus,] her being completely unaware of what his motives were throughout the film, it was interesting just how [that] played out and how it was a very intimate, genuine connection that I think both characters were longing for.'
