30-year-old man dies following scooter crash in Waterford

A man who was thrown from a scooter in Brant County has died from his injuries. Ontario Provincial Police said it happened along the Waterford Heritage Trail, near College Street West and Robinson Road, just before 9:30 p.m. Friday. The 30-year-old crashed the two-wheeled scooter and suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. 'I'm really sad to say that a 30-year-old from Brant County was pronounced deceased,' Sgt. Ed Sanchuk shared in a social media post on Saturday morning. 'My condolences to everyone who has been affected by this.' He also said a passerby stopped to help the injured man at the scene. 'I'd also like to thank the Good Samaritan who stopped to provide assistance,' Sanchuk continued. 'You made a very difficult situation just a little bit easier for those involved, so thank you on behalf of the OPP.' OPP said they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Brantford man charged in vacant building break-in

A man from Brantford is facing several charges related to a break-in in Brant County. Ontario Provincial Police received a report about a suspicious person at a vacant commercial property on Old Onondaga Road West on Friday around 6:13 a.m. When officers arrived, they found a person at the property and determined he had broken in and stolen some items. A 35-year-old Brantford man was charged with break and enter, theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police charged Hamilton man for Brant County theft

An Ontario Provincial Police cruiser is positioned in a parking lot. Ontario Provincial Police said they caught two thieves in the act at a Brant County business. Officers were called to Colborne Street East around 4:28 p.m. Friday. A witness told police they saw people taking items from the property. Officers found the two suspects at the property. One was taken into police custody and later released. A 37-year-old from Hamilton, meanwhile, was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Investigation underway into fatal Wellesley collision

Waterloo Regional Police say a 73-year-old man from Brant County was killed in a crash Thursday in Wellesley Township. First responders were called to Moser Young Road, near Weimar Line, around 3:25 p.m. for a collision involving a motorcycle and Ford pickup truck. Police said the man on the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup was not hurt. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, or has dash cam video, to give the Traffic Services Unit a call at 519-570-9777, ext. 8856.

Driver allegedly clocked at more than twice the speed limit in Brant County

A vehicle was hooked up to a tow truck in Brant County after Ontario Provincial Police said a driver was caught stunt driving. (Courtesy: Ontario Provincial Police) A driver from Simcoe will need to find a new way to get around after police said they were caught speeding at more than twice the speed limit in Brant County. Ontario Provincial Police stopped the driver on Pleasant Ridge Road near Colborne Street West on Monday around 4:54 p.m. The officer said they had clocked the vehicle at 125 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. A 78-year-old from Simcoe was charged with stunt driving and speeding. Their driver's licence was suspended for 30 days and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
