Ski resort cleans up 780 pounds of ‘unhinged' trash buried under snow — including a message in a bottle
They were frozen in time. Colorado ski resort employees who were cleaning up the mountain post-season found a staggering 780 pounds of trash that had been hidden under the snow — including an iPod Nano and a 'message' in a bottle, per a viral Facebook post. The Mountain Cleanup Day went down this month at the Breckenridge Ski Resort, which shut its doors in mid-May, Fox News reported. 'In addition to being the right thing to do for our mountain, it's also a fun paid event to connect with our teammates [and] see what wacky items may have been lost in the season's powder days,' Maxwell Winter, Senior Communications Manager at the lodge, told the Post. 4 An iPod Nano, which was discontinued in 2017. Instagram/@breckenridgemtn This year, over 150 employees took to the slopes to clear the alpine wonderland of refuse, during which they found a veritable treasure trove of 'unhinged' items. Along with an unsurprising assortment of lost ski poles and boots, the mountain maintenance team found broken phones, glasses, air pods, a spatula, a driver's license and a Canadian two-dollar coin. They said their 'most unique find' was a note in a bottle, which the Breckenridge crew joked said everything from 'Drink your Ovaltine' to 'Stuck in a bottle, send help,' according to Winter. 4 Some of the other miscellaneous items found during the cleanup. Instagram/@breckenridgemtn To the communications manager's chagrin, however, the so-called mysterious correspondence turned out to be an 'individual's old COVID-19 vaccination card.' But the crown jewel of oddball items was an iPod Nano, which was notably discontinued in 2017. 4 Some of the lost Airpods found on the mountain. Instagram/@breckenridgemtn Facebook commenters were bemused by the oddball items. 'The hamburger flipper stumps me,' exclaimed one awestruck commenter, while another wrote, 'Some gold in them hills!' 'Maintenance got the really good stuff before the cleanup,' quipped a third. Meanwhile, others joked that the crew likely found a lot of drugs that they couldn't show on camera. Others shared their own stories of peculiar items that were lost and found on a ski slope. 'I lost a phone at Beaver Creek 4 years ago and someone found it last summer while mountain biking and called me to ask if it was mine and did I need it because it still worked!!' said one commenter. Another wrote, 'My husband has forever enshrined an AirPod at the Paramount lift at WP. He always have me grief for my wired headphones. THAT is why I stay old school.' 'We used to call it nickle-nosing, as we walked up the hill under the chairlift and found all sorts of treasures after the melt. Good times,' mentioned a third.

Virgin River star teases huge change for Mel with cryptic season 7 update
Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge shared a behind-the-scenes update Alexandra Breckenridge, the star of Virgin River, has given her followers a sneak peek into what's in store for season seven, reports the Mirror US. The 43 year old actress, who plays Mel Monroe, took to Instagram to share a brief clip during a break from filming the seventh season of the popular Netflix series. Breckenridge teased fans with a playful message: "Hey there, Happy Monday. You see anything different about me today? Any ideas?". She then revealed her outfit for the day, which included a hoodie paired with blue scrubs. With a hint of mystery, she mused: "Something scrub-like? I wonder why Alex could be wearing scrubs? Hmmm, I wonder what's going on?" Adding to the anticipation, she playfully suggested: "You're just going to have to wait until season seven to find out, aren't you?" The actress joked about her on-screen role, saying: "She's getting her nurse on. That was so cheesy, I'm so sorry. I apologise, it's really early. I didn't get much sleep. I'm a little loopy." Commenting on her appearance in the video, she remarked: "My teeth look so white with this filter, I love it." Before signing off, she cheerfully told her audience: "Talk to you guys later, see you soon." While Breckenridge stopped short of revealing any plot details, fans are speculating about the reasons behind Mel's return to wearing scrubs. One possibility is that Mel might be seeking new employment opportunities now that Doc's (Tim Matheson) clinic is under scrutiny. Another scenario could involve Mel stepping in to assist with the birth of Marley's (portrayed by Rachel Drance) baby, after the young woman approached her at a birthing centre. In the cliffhanger ending of season six, viewers saw Marley request that Mel and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) consider adopting her baby-to-be. While fans eagerly await the next development, Breckenridge's video presents an intriguing storyline progression. Breckenridge and Henderson, 50, have shared regular updates from the season seven set and recently hinted at the forthcoming season's release. Taking to Instagram, Breckenridge posted a poll asking: "Virgin River season 7 2025?" and invited her followers to respond with a yes or no. In an earlier video, she expressed: "I feel like I'm on day 857 of filming Season 7." She added: "We're almost done, can you believe it? I can't even believe it. Almost to the finish line." The actress also pondered whether the new season would air this year, asking her followers: "I keep wondering if they're going to put the show out this year. What do you guys think? Probably, right?". She further hypothesised: "If they have it, they'll probably drop it ... this year, 2025. I don't know any information. I'm the last to know." Season six was released as a single instalment in December 2024, with each yearly instalment premiering fairly consistently. Given this pattern, it wouldn't be surprising if season seven were to premiere later this year; however, Netflix has yet to confirm a definitive release date. Virgin River season 7 is in production

Virgin River Star Hints at Major Change for Mel in Season 7: ‘I Wonder Why…'
When Virgin River returns for Season 7, Mel is ditching her flannel tops and cozy sweaters for a very different look — scrubs! Alexandra Breckenridge posted an on-set story to Instagram on Monday, where she gave eager viewers a sneak peek at what her character will be up to in the near future, and it raises more questions than it answers. More from TVLine The Diplomat: Bradley Whitford Enters the Political Fray in a Tense Season 3 Teaser - Watch Save the Dates: Hallmark's Providence Falls Mini and More Ted Danson Reveals His Wife Mary Steenburgen Plays His New Love Interest in A Man on the Inside Season 2: 'It's Just Magical' 'Is there something different about me today that you've noticed?' Breckenridge says in the video. 'Something… scrub-like? I wonder why Alex could be wearing scrubs. I wonder what's going on. I guess you're just going to have to wait until Season 7 to find out, won't you? She's getting her nurse on!' So, what does all of this mean? Mel has worked as a nurse practitioner since Virgin River premiered in 2019, but she tends to dress pretty casually on the job, rarely (if ever) rocking scrubs. I'm thinking there are two possibilities here: With Doc's practice now under investigation, it's possible that Season 7 will find Mel seeking employment at another medical facility, maybe even working as a nurse at the hospital in Clear River. But since I don't want anything to take the residents of Virgin River away from the titular locale, my preferred possibility is that Mel is scrubbing in to assist with the birth of Marley's baby — you know, the one she wants Mel and Jack to adopt? If that's the case, Breckenridge just gave fans a sneak peek at a major milestone in her and Jack's relationship. Beyond that, we'll just have to listen to Breckenridge and wait until Season 7 comes out for official confirmation. It's still anyone's guess when that will be, but Breckenridge suggested that it could be as early as this year. (My money's still on 2026, but I like her optimism!) What do you think these scrubs mean for Mel's future? A new job? A new baby? Drop a comment with your best guesses and biggest hopes below. Olympic freeski champion Nico Porteous changes career direction
Nico Porteous has won Olympic, X Games and world championship titles. Photo: AFP Olympic champion Nico Porteous will never stop pushing the boundaries on the slopes, but the competitive streak has waned and he is stepping away from freeski halfpipe in a natural career change . Porteous, 23, is New Zealand's most successful male snowsports athlete and one of the most decorated halfpipe athletes in history. At times in his competitive career, he has felt the pressure of expectation, but now he skis for the fun of it. He has Olympic, X Games and world championship titles, and World Cup medals, but in his words, he has nothing left to achieve as a competitive athlete. "That's why I felt so free to make the decision that I have made," Porteous said. "I achieved everything that I wanted to and I'm really proud of that." Porteous spent more than half his life chasing success on the snow. He started as a 10-year-old, following older brother Miguel, as he chased back-to-back winters, training and competing at Breckenridge in the USA and Cardrona Alpine Resort in New Zealand, balancing sports commitments with schoolwork. A lot has changed. "Your thinking changes, the way you look at life changes and I have followed that natural progression," Porteous said of his decision to move on from wearing silver fern on the international stage. "In the later stages there, I just lost that competitive drive and competitive passion, and found other areas of skiing that I really enjoyed." At 14, Porteous became the first New Zealander and youngest person in the world to land a triple cork 1440. Two years later, he was an Olympic bronze-medallist and a junior world champion. The following season, he claimed the first World Cup medal of his career - a silver. He then won a bronze medal at X Games Aspen and finished in second on the 2018-19 freeski halfpipe World Cup tour rankings - the best ever result at the time for a New Zealand male in the FIS Freeski rankings. Zoe Sadowski-Synnott and Nico Porteous show off their 2018 Winter Olympics bronze medals. Photo: PHOTOSPORT At the 2021 X Games Aspen, Porteous won New Zealand's first gold medal in freeski superpipe, with a run he had worked on for 18 months that contained a trick and a trick combo - a right 1620 combined with the left 1620 - that had never been landed in competition before. He continued his success during that 2021 season to become the freeski halfpipe world champion, the first time a New Zealander had held this title. In 2022, he won X Games freeski superpipe gold and followed that up with an freeski halfpipe gold medal at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Last year, he claimed silver at the 2024 Aspen X Games, after taking a break from competing in 2023. Porteous' success as a teenager opened New Zealanders' eyes to what was possible from his generation of snowsports athletes, but it also took over his life. "It takes a lot of sacrifice and a lot of time, a lot of effort, a lot of everything," he said. "It just consumes you and and it's all you think about 24/7. "I definitely was feeling pressure. Everything that I do, I want to do my best at it and give it my all, and having that expectation can sometimes lead to some pretty stressful environments." Porteous put his head down and tried to drown out the external noise. "I think there definitely was some external pressure, but also internal pressure as well, throughout the whole time." Another Winter Olympics was not on Porteous' mind, when he announced he was leaving competitive freeskiing eight months out from the next Games at Milan. "It was just when I felt like it was right," he said. "It was on my own terms." Porteous is taking note of the up-and-coming New Zealand talent that will hopefully have success similar to his. "The success that we've seen in the past season has been crazy," he said. "All credit to those guys, they're incredible and I think it's really exciting the new era that we're coming into." With his competitive days now behind him, Porteous said he was in good shape and was not slowing down. From now on, Nico Porteous will move into different forms of skiing. Photo: PhotoSport "I'm still pushing myself every single day and skiing at the highest level I can. There's been a couple injuries along the way, but everybody goes through injuries, and I'm lucky that I'm still young and my body feels good. "By no means am I done pushing the limit skiing." Over the past couple of years, Porteous has moved into a different area of skiing - one that involves showing off his skills for the camera. "Working with videographers and producing films of me skiing, I've really enjoyed that side of skiing and it's something that, we're lucky in our sport, it can be another career path." He has also managed and produced some events, and worked on product development with some of the sponsors he built relationships with while competing. Porteous still spends a lot of time in skis. "I just go skiing for fun," he said. "It's what I love to do. "It's my passion and it's my hobby as well, just as much as it's my career. "I go out skiing, more often than not, just for fun." 'Virgin River' season 7 'Virgin River' fans should get ready as season 7 is almost here! Alexandra Breckenridge, who plays the beloved Mel Sheridan, recently took to Instagram to offer a lighthearted but honest update about the filming process. The actor revealed that production is nearing completion, describing it as a long but exciting journey. 'I feel like I'm on day 857 of filming Season 7… We're almost done!' she joked in her video post, visibly tired but thrilled to be approaching the finish line. Though the OTT platform is yet to announce an official release date but Breckenridge's comments, as shared in a recent Deadline report, suggest fans might not have to wait too long. With filming nearly wrapped, speculation is high that the new season could arrive sometime in 2025. Fresh faces bring new tension to 'Virgin River' Season 7 won't just pick up where it left off, but it's also shaking things up with two new additions to the cast. 'The Vampire Diaries' alum Sara Canning joins as Victoria, a former police officer who was injured on duty and now works for the state medical board. Her character is expected to directly impact Doc, whose medical license was suspended at the end of last season, setting the stage for some serious tension. Another new face is Cody Kearsley, best known for his role in 'Riverdale.' He will portray Clay, a rugged rodeo worker on a mission to find his long-lost younger sister. Clay's storyline promises to introduce a fresh emotional arc, possibly tying into some of the show's core families. Production nears completion, release date still under wraps While there's still no official date but all the signs point to a 2025 premiere for 'Virgin River' Season 7. The sixth season landed in December 2024 and filming for the follow up began shortly after. Breckenridge didn't confirm anything in her video but playfully asked fans whether they thought the release would happen this year but she left by keeping the mystery alive. With returning favorites new conflicts and emotional storylines ahead, 'Virgin River' Season 7 is shaping up to be a standout chapter in the hit Netflix series. Fans will just have to stay tuned a little longer for an exact release date but if Breckenridge's excitement is anything to go by, it'll be worth the wait.
