Trial date set for man, 62, who 'killed mother' in Westonzoyland

A man accused of murdering his mother has been remanded into custody and will face trial in Breed, 62, is charged with killing 87-year-old Brenda Breed on Tuesday pronounced the pensioner dead in Monmouth Close, Westonzoyland, near Breed, of no fixed address, was excused from attending the brief hearing at Bristol Crown Court earlier. Westonzoyland murder: Man, 62, charged with killing his mother

A man has appeared in court after being charged with murdering his own mother. Richard Breed, 62, of no fixed abode, appeared at Taunton Deane Magistrates' Court on Thursday. Police have confirmed that the woman killed in the incident in Monmouth Close, Westonzoyland, on Tuesday was 87-year-old Brenda Breed. In a statement released by her family they said there were "no words to describe the pain and devastation which has rippled through our family, friends and the community from the loss of such a remarkable and much-loved woman". Mr Breed, who did not enter a plea in court, is due to appear for his next hearing at Bristol Crown Court on Friday. Police said they were called to a home in Monmouth Close at 09:17 BST on Tuesday by neighbours who were concerned for the welfare of Ms Breed, who was pronounced dead at the scene. While formal identification has not yet taken place Ms Breed's family are being supported by dedicated officers Police said residents would continue to see an increased police presence from the major crime team as enquiries continue, and with officers from the neighbourhood policing team also in the area to offer support.
