The Mummy cast (minus two major stars) reunited at the 2025 Fan Expo Denver nearly three decades after the film's release The action thriller was an update of the 1932 classic film, and made more than $400 million at the box office At the event, Brendan Fraser gave his take on why Tom Cruise's 2017 version did not do the sameThe Mummy cast had a major reunion nearly 30 years after the blockbuster movie was made. Brendan Fraser (Rick O'Connell), Patricia Velásquez (Anck-Su-Namun), John Hannah (Jonathan Carnahan) and Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay) were photographed together at the 2025 Fan Expo Denver on July 6, 26 years after the adventure film hit theaters in 1999. Noticeably absent from the photo opp was Rachel Weisz (Evelyn Carnahan) and Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep a.k.a. The Mummy). In a post shared to Instagram by ScreenThrill, fans went wild at the sight of some of their favorites back together again. 'The mummy is one of the most underrated action adventure films in the last 30 years! Just a classic,' one person wrote. Another added, 'The Mummy and Mummy Returns are two of my favorite adventure movies of all time!' One even raved about how Fehr, 54, still seemed to channel his debonair character almost three decades later, writing, 'Oded's hair & beard are still Glorious.' Set in 1925, Fraser, 56, and Weisz, 55, starred as leads Rick and Evelyn, also known as 'Evie,' a dashing adventurer and explorer teamed with an Egyptologist, respectively. The unlikely pair must race against the clock to save all of humanity after tomb hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest. They were joined by Evelyn's older brother Jonathan, and Ardeth, a chief member of the Medjai, descendants of the royal bodyguards of several pharaohs of Egypt. The hit film, which made more than $400 million at the box office, was an update of the 1932 classic film, and made way for two sequels — 2001's The Mummy Returns and 2008's Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. There was also a 2017 The Mummy reboot which starred Tom Cruise. Unfortunately for the Mission Impossible movie star, 63, his version did not live up to its predecessors. During Fan Expo Denver, Fraser gave his take on why the follow-up flopped, per Collider. The conversation reportedly began when the Bedazzled star was asked about Universal's attempts to build the Dark Universe with 2017's The Mummy and 2020's The Invisible Man, and if there could ever be a crossover between the two. 'I really don't know. I know Tom Cruise tried to make his movie and it ain't easy! We all know how hard this movie is to make…' Fraser said onstage while seated with Hannah, Velásquez and Fehr. Brendan Fraser reunites with his castmates from The Mummy more than 26 years after the film debuted
More than 26 years after The Mummy hit theaters, Brendan Fraser reunited with three of his castmates. The 56-year-old actor played Rick O'Connell in the 1999 summer blockbuster, which also put rising star Rachel Weisz on the map. While Weisz wasn't present, Fraser was photographed with co-stars Patricia Velasquez (Anck Su Namun), John Hannah (Jonathan) and Arnold Vosloo (Imhotep) on Sunday. They all posed together at the 2025 Fan Expo Denver at the Denver Convention Center during a panel on Sunday. The 1999 classic was a remake of the original Universal Pictures 1932 classic starring Boris Karloff, which was a box office smash. Fraser and Hannah appeared in the entire trilogy - 1999's The Mummy, 2001's The Mummy Returns and 2008's The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, though Vosloo and Velasquez only appeared in the first two films. Fraser stepped out in a black t-shirt under a dark green dress shirt with a tan baseball cap and dark pants. Velasquez opted for a dark green dress while Vosloo donned a light blue dress shirt, white t-shirt under a grey suit coat and grey pants. Hannah opted for a grey t-shirt under a brown jacket and light blue jeans for the convention. The Mummy remake was set in the year 1932, following treasure hunter Rick O'Connell (Fraser) as he takes librarian Evelyn Carnahan (Weisz) and her older brother Jonathan (Hannah) to Hamunaptra, City of the Dead, where they awaken the ancient mummy Imhotep (Vosloo). The film was a massive hit at the box office, taking in $418 million worldwide from an $80 million budget. The franchise was rebooted yet again in 2017 with Tom Cruise starring alongside Sofia Boutella, Annabelle Wallis and Russell Crowe. The film was supposed to launch Universal's new franchise Dark Universe, though that never moved forward. Fraser was asked if his trilogy was supposed to cross over with Cruise's franchise at some point, though he didn't know. Fraser stepped out in a black t-shirt under a dark green dress shirt with a tan baseball cap and dark pants. 'I really don't know. I know Tom Cruise tried to make his movie and it ain't easy! We all know how hard this movie is to make,' he said. 'With the exception of three (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), the thing with all of these films is that, at least it was fun, it was a thrill ride, and you wanted to do it again,' he added. 'The answer is you've just got to give everybody what they really, really want. If you stray from that path…' Fraser continued, trailing off.
