Former Iowa football QB entrenched in position battle after big quarterback domino falls
With the transfer portal constantly in flux and players now circumventing the portal by becoming a walk-on, quarterbacks are shuffling faster than a three-step dropback. The latest quarterback domino to fall is former BYU QB Jake Retzlaff joining Tulane as a walk-on. By withdrawing from school, he could walk-on at a new program without penalty. This route allows Retzlaff to bypass the transfer portal and join a new program. Retzlaff joins Tulane's QB room, which is also accompanied by former Iowa Hawkeyes and Northwestern Wildcats quarterback Brendan Sullivan. The addition of Retzlaff now entrenches Sullivan in yet another topsy-turvy quarterback room, rather similar to his final year at Iowa, when he took over for Cade McNamara. Jake Retzlaff withdrew from school at BYU just over a week ago amid honor code violations that would have led to a suspension. The suspension was stemming from a civil suit for sexual assault. The lawsuit has since been dismissed. While at BYU, Retzlaff threw for 3,595 passing yards and 23 touchdowns to 15 interceptions. Brendan Sullivan, who spent two years at Northwestern, followed by 2024 at Iowa, has thrown for 1,778 yards, 13 TD, and 8 INT during his collegiate career. He has added 407 rushing yards and 7 rushing TDs. Contact/Follow us @HawkeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Iowa news, notes and opinions. James Beard Awards spotlights the only 2025 winner from Massachusetts: Sullivan's Castle Island
The prestigious James Beard Awards held Monday night honored elite chefs at some of the fanciest restaurants in America. But it was a beloved seafood shack selling hot dogs for $3.50 apiece that was recognized as the only 2025 award winner from Massachusetts. Sullivan's Castle Island in South Boston, founded in 1951, won the James Beard Foundation's "America's Classics" award for the northeast region. "Every Bostonian has a story about Sully's—whether from working there after school as a teenager, having their sports team or fundraiser supported by Sully's, taking their children for some crinkle cuts like their grandparents took them, or simply enjoying it as a nostalgic seaside gathering place for locals," the foundation said in a statement. "For transplants and visitors to Boston, going there has become a rite of passage." The honor was actually announced in February, but co-owners Brendan and Adrienne Sullivan appeared on stage in Chicago Monday night to accept their award, and they also were featured in a video montage played at the ceremony. "This is a place where people for generations have been coming to Castle Island, enjoying the atmosphere, and, of course enjoying the food," Brendan Sullivan said. "This James Beard America's Classics Award is not just for the Sullivan family, it's for the entire city of Boston." The pair also highlighted their simple but classic menu of summer favorites, which includes onion rings, clam chowder, lobster rolls and soft serve ice cream. "One of our signature dishes is our double cheeseburger and we've had it since 1951," Brendan Sullivan said. "It tastes like Sully's. It tastes like Castle Island." Adrienne Sullivan said. Sullivan's opened for the season on March 1, and there were lines around the block. Click here for a list of James Beard Award semifinalists from Massachusetts.

Report: Michigan contacts Iowa transfer QB Brendan Sullivan
Iowa quarterback Brendan Sullivan recently entered the transfer portal, but it doesn't look like he'll be there for too long. In fact, early indications are that Sullivan, 22, could wind up playing elsewhere in the Big Ten. That's because Michigan reportedly has reached out to Sullivan, according to Sullivan entered the portal after the arrival of quarterback Mark Gronowski from South Dakota State. Gronowski was highly decorated at the FCS level, including being named the 2023 player of the year. Last season as a backup, Sullivan completed 38 of 53 passes for 475 yards for the Hawkeyes. He threw three touchdown passes and three interceptions. He spent one season at Iowa following two seasons at another Big Ten program, Northwestern. Coming out of high school in Davison, Mich., Sullivan was a three-star recruit ranked No. 49 among quarterbacks in the Class of 2021, according to the 247Sports composite. Michigan already has brought in quarterback Bryce Underwood, the No. 1 overall player in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports composite. From Belleville, Mich., Underwood was a January enrollee. -Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved
