Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer goes ballistic after first career ejection
For the first time as interim manager of the Colorado Rockies, Warren Schaeffer was ejected, and he made the most out of that career moment. Home plate umpire Ramon De Jesus called strike three on Rockies outfielder Tyler Freeman, and he immediately got ejected after arguing the call. That's when Schaeffer came flying out of the dugout to get in between them, and he clearly had no thoughts of staying in the dugout after watching his reaction. Schaeffer spiked his gum and hat into the dirt after getting in between De Jesus and Freeman, which led to the umpire tossing the interim manager from the game. From there, Schaeffer got right in De Jesus's face, saying his piece while also showing him where he thought the pitch was. Schaeffer knelt in the right-handed batter's box and held his hand just above the ground, likely showing De Jesus where he thought that strike-three call was on Freeman. The Rockies relieved Bud Black of his managerial duties on May 11 despite a rare win for Colorado, the team owning MLB's worst record this season at 18-65. Since Schaeffer took over, the Rockies' results haven't been much better, going 11-32 since then. However, Schaeffer's fiery response to Freeman's strikeout clearly turned the tides in his dugout. The Rockies ended up beating the Brewers in extra innings, 4-3, at American Family Field. It was Brenton Doyle's RBI double in the eighth inning, as well as Orlando Arcia's game-tying home run in the ninth, that forced extras on the road. Then, Kyle Farmer came through with an RBI single in the 11th to give Colorado the lead they wouldn't relinquish in the bottom of the frame, as Tyler Kinley closed out the win. Clayton Kershaw nears 3000 career Ks in Dodgers win over Rockies
June 26 - Clayton Kershaw drew closer to 3,000 career strikeouts in six crisp innings, Shohei Ohtani homered, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 in Denver on Thursday. Kershaw (4-0) struck out five to reach 2,997, three shy of becoming the 20th pitcher in major league history to reach the 3,000 milestone. He scattered two hits, walked one and left after throwing 69 pitches. His next scheduled start is Wednesday at home against the Chicago White Sox. Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez had two hits each and Tanner Scott picked up his 17th save for Los Angeles, which swept the three-game series and has won 10 straight over Colorado dating back to last season. Brenton Doyle homered for the Rockies, who wrapped up a 1-5 homestand. Tyler Freeman went 0-for-3 and had his 12-game hitting streak stopped. He walked in the ninth but was doubled up after a Thairo Estrada flyout to center to end the game. Doyle gave Colorado a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second inning, his sixth of the season and first since May 27. The Dodgers tied it in the third when Miguel Rojas doubled, Ohtani walked, both moved up on a wild pitch and Rojas scored on an infield single by Betts. Austin Gomber worked around Tommy Edman's leadoff double in the fifth inning to keep it 1-1 but was relieved to start the sixth. He allowed one run on four hits and struck out one in five innings of work. Los Angeles went in front against reliever Angel Chivilli (1-3). Betts led off with a double, Will Smith walked and Freddie Freeman singled to right-center field to bring home Betts. One out later, Juan Mejia struck out Andy Pages and got Edman to ground out to third to limit the damage. Ohtani expanded the lead when he homered into the Dodgers' bullpen in the seventh inning. It was his NL-leading 28th homer of the season and second in the three-game series. -- Field Level Media

Rockies win first series since 2024, snapping 22-series losing streak
The Colorado Rockies ended a streak of 22 consecutive series losses dating to last year, beating the Miami Marlins 3-2 Tuesday night as Hunter Goodman homered for the third time in two games. Colorado, a major league-worst 11-50, won consecutive games for just the second time this year after beating Atlanta on April 30 and San Francisco the next day. They go for a series sweep against the Marlins on Wednesday. Goodman hit his 10th homer of the season in the eighth inning as the Rockies ended a run of 19 series losses this season. He had two homers in a 6-4 win over Miami on Monday. Goodman went 2 for 4 with his 12th double of the season. Tyler Freeman had three hits and Jordan Beck two. The Rockies tied the game in the fifth on Beck's RBI single and Thairo Estrada's sacrifice fly. Victor Vodnik (1-1) worked 1 1/3 innings of relief for the win. Seth Halvorsen retired three pinch hitters in the ninth and earned his third save. Colorado center fielder Brenton Doyle ended the game with a running catch at the wall to retire Heriberto Hernandez. Anthony Bender (1-4) gave up Goodman's homer. The 30-year-old right-hander had not allowed a homer since Aug. 10, 2024. Chase Dollander was reinstated from the injured list and started for the Rockies. The 23-year-old lasted three innings and 59 pitches, giving up RBI singles to Jesus Sanchez and Kyle Stowers. Sánchez had two hits for Miami, which has lost three in a row and seven of eight. Miami's Sandy Alcantara matched his longest start of the year, working six innings, but didn't figure in the decision for the second straight game after seven straight losses. With two outs in the Marlins' seventh, Xavier Edwards and Sánchez singled. Vodnik relieved and got Agustin Ramirez on a tapper back to the mound. Eight of Goodman's homers have come on the road. Colorado LHP Kyle Freeland (0-8, 5.72) faces Miami's LHP Cal Quantrill (3-5, 5.84) in Wednesday's series finale. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Rockies' 2nd straight win in Miami ends MLB-record streak of series losses at 22
MIAMI (AP) — The woeful Colorado Rockies have ended their ignominious, record-setting MLB streak of 22 consecutive series losses, which dated to last season. A nervy 3-2 victory at Miami on Tuesday night, highlighted by Hunter Goodman's third home run in two games, gave Colorado two straight victories over the Marlins to ensure the Rockies would leave town with their first series victory since taking two of three games from Arizona in Denver in mid-September. 'That was big-time for the boys, to get that first series win,' Rockies interim manager Warren Schaeffer said. 'Who would've known it wouldn't come until June. But the time is now. I'm happy for them.' Colorado, a major league-worst 11-50, won consecutive games for just the second time this year after beating Atlanta on April 30 and San Francisco the next day. They go for a series sweep against the Marlins on Wednesday. Goodman's teammates seemed unsurprised by his pivotal role in securing the Rockies' first series win of the season. 'He's just raking, and when he's hot, he's one of the best hitters in the game,' centerfielder Brenton Doyle told 'I hope he keeps it up. He's one of my good buddies and that was awesome.' Rockies reliever Seth Halvorsen earned his third save, but only after Heriberto Hernandez drove his 1-1 pitch about 400 feet to left-center, where Doyle made a game-ending, running catch at the wall. 'I'm not going to lie; off the bat, I thought that was a homer,' Schaeffer said. 'But it wasn't, so it's all good. It's the best having (Doyle) in center field.' Excluding one-game series, the Rockies are the fourth team since MLB expansion in 1961 to go 18 series before recording their first series win in a season. The 1987 Padres, 1969 Montreal Expos and 1962 Washington Senators all won their first series of those seasons in their 19th series. Before the Rockies arrived in Miami, they'd gone 3-28 on the road — the worst road mark at that point of season in more than a century — and had not won back-to-back road games since last Sept. 5-6. 'It's nice to get a couple wins. It's good to get that first series win,' Schaffer said. 'Now we just move forward.' ___ AP MLB:
